The beach spread out beneath them, sand and sea in every direction, dotted with swarms of people and food stands that sold everything from ice cream and hot dogs to spanikopita to some kind of kebabs. They eventually managed to find a spot on the beach that wasn't horribly crowded, though it wasn't nearly as secluded as a massive group of magical being would like. No powers were to be used -- but then, that was assumed. Hopefully.
Hitomi found a spot in the sun far enough back to be safe from the tides and spread out her towel, then dropped her bag on the ground beside it.
It was a beautiful day, and it had been a long time since she'd been to the beach. Even after all that happened, she couldn't help but smile.

Kemekin grinned as he watched a pair of children tackle their father into the water. The wind mussed his hair, and as he walked through the sand he slipped off his t-shirt. The white cotton proved a rather startling contrast to his skin, which had grown several visible shades darker just from walking around the city the day before. Kemekin glanced down and grinned. Compared to his skin, his royal-blue swimming trunks looks nearly neon.
Kemekin paused and scanned the area. He spotted a pair of nets set up a few dozen yards away. His grin became devilish.
Ah, volleyball.

Jaymie dropped his bag and towel down beside Hitomi, then stripped off his t-shirt and the sparkly golden jean-shorts he was wearing over his swim trunks.
The beach. The wonderful, glorious, sandy, saltwater beach. There were a lot of reasons Jaymie was ambivalent about Dunehelden, and not being able to just drive down to the beach every other weekend was one of them- though not being able to spread his wings and fly once he got there definitely killed some of the excitement. He would just about die to be able to change back and forth without someone having a fit.
He grinned at Hitomi over his sunglasses. "So, wanna go knock a ball around in those waves? Because if you want to sit around and tan or something, not that you remotely need it, I might just go swimming for a few hours."

Hitomi laughed and looked back over at Jaymie. "Now why would I want to do something fun at the beach when I could do something boring like lay in the sand? Besides," she said, grinning, "I didn't buy a new swimsuit not to get it wet." She shrugged off the straps of her sun dress and kicked it over into her bag.
She caught Kemekin eyeing the volleyball nets and gave a slow smirk. "So, Jaymie, how are you at volleyball?"

Hitoshi shaded his eyes from the sun, looking over over the ocean. Hitoshi might not have been too fond of the heat, but he had to admit, there was something about the sea...
He found someplace a bit back from where Hitomi had laid her blanket, making sure to be far enough away from the volleyball court to avoid rogue balls flying in his direction, and laid out the towels he had borrowed from the hotel.
He kicked off his sandals and turned back toward Alex. "What do you feel like doing first?"

"Knock ball over net, huh? I think I can do that." He grinned.

Alex sat his tote bag down, then dug a little hole for it with his foot and covered it with part of his towel, to keep the sandwiches from getting too warm and the mayo from spoiling.
"Uhm. Suppose it depends on what other people are doing? I want to find a place to go diving in the shallows and see fish, before we leave at least, but what do you want to do?"

Ah, the beach! The beach was, if not Rudeth's favorite place in the world, at least somewhere in the top ten. The sun was hot, the water was cold, and everywhere he turned, there was a horde of cute girls in bikinis. And right now, one of those cute girls was his girlfriend. The day was perfect.
Rudeth ripped his shirt over his head and dumped it somewhere in the general direction of the rest of his family, then dashed toward the ocean. He plunged headlong into the water. Freezing. Cold. Water.
"Gah!" Rudeth pulled himself up and shook off slightly. Fucking. Cold. He grinned back toward the group still on the land. "C'mon, guys, the water's fine!"

Hitomi grinned. This was definitely going to be fun. It had been a long time since she'd played volleyball, but she'd been pretty good at it in middle school. And Jaymie wasn't too shabby of an athlete, either.
"Hey Kemekin~!" Hitomi started jogging toward the nets. "Round up another person and we can play a game of doubles!"

Kemekin's grin broadened. He looked around for potential players, and spotted Doucan. The tall girl's bright hair and china-doll skin made her a veritable beacon in the sunlight.
"Hey! Hey, Doucan!" He waved at her. "We're playing volleyball. You're joining." He pointed to the nets, and then jogged after Hitomi.

Doucan arched an eyebrow at the boy, but walked over nonetheless. She had to wonder how he knew her name; given what she had heard about the lad, however, she doubted she should put much stock on it. As far as she knew, there was only one other six-foot-plus bright-haired femme at Dunehelden.
Oh well.
Doucan pushed her thick braid back over her shoulder and followed the boy's tanned figure to the nets. "Who is playing who, this one wonders."

"I'd like to go swimming for a little while, maybe before it gets too crowded. I wouldn't mind just walking around and exploring, either." Just sitting on the beach and spending time with Alex didn't sound bad either, and if Alex wanted to go off and hang out with his sister or something, Hitoshi did remember to bring a book.
He slipped his hand into Alex's and looked at him thoughtfully. "We can swim and go diving before lunch, then after we can walk around on the beach. We can get ice cream, if you want."

Hitomi grinned, picking up the ball and bouncing it in one hand. It was a bit lighter than she was used to, but not enough for it to be a problem. She'd never seen Doucan before, but if the girl's height was any indication, she was probably going to be a fierce opponent, and Kemekin was probably nothing to scoff at either. Still, Hitomi wasn't going to abandon Jaymie. At least for the first round.
"You two against me and Jaymie. Kemekin, you can have first serve." Hitomi tossed the ball over the net toward the boy. "Jaymie, you cover Doucan. I'll take Kemekin."

Jaymie looked at Hitomi.
He looked at Kemekin and Doucan.
"No obvious use of powers, huh," he muttered drily. It had been... quite a while since he'd played volleyball. Granted, he was more likely to keep to that promise with the knowledge that then they could do the same thing, and you never had any idea what a mage could do. Or whatever Doucan was. Meh, he'd see what he could do.
Hit ball over net. Damnit, supernal grace- I brought you to the beach, can you help me not look like an idiot in front of my girlfriend?

Kemekin caught the ball and spun it neatly in his fingers. He should probably mention summers on the volley team in Eureka. But he wasn't going to. Nope.
Kemekin backed to the far corner of the play area, and tossed the ball up. He rocked forward onto the balls of his feet and knocked his fist into the ball as it came level, sending it in a smooth arch over the net.

Alex squeezed Hitoshi's hand and looked over to the group gathering around the volleyball net.
"Looking around for a while sounds fun. We can find the best spot to go swimming, maybe- I don't know- find starfish or something. I'm sure they'll mostly be here when we get back." He half-smirked.

Aritha's bikini was probably almost more revealing than Hitomi's, but it wasn't a thong and it covered the essentials. Which was all that mattered, right? And Aritha didn't have to worry about sunburns; bonus. She never had before, at least.
She did have sunscreen on just in case. Spreading out her beach towel, and putting her bag next to it (which held another towel to actually dry herself off, and a brush to fix her hair when she was done swimming), Aritha flicked her long braid over her shoulder and ran into the sea, making a dive as soon as it was deep enough to do so. Naturally, some hair came free and hid her eyes when she came up. Flicking it out of her eyes, Aritha sighed and dove under again, hunting under the water for Rudeth. He was around here... Ah ha. Swimming for him, she wrapped her arms around his legs and pulled.

Hitomi's tongue darted out across her lower lip, and she rolled forward on the balls of her feet. The ball flew over the net slowly but gracefully; it was a simple serve, but solid. Kemekin had obviously played before. Good. It would make the game more interesting.
Hitomi lunged forward and swung her arms up, sending the ball toppling back toward the other side of the net.

Natsu had never really been to the beach before, so this was a new and exciting experiance. She had pulled her long silver-blue tresses into a bun that was loosely tied to the nape of her neck. Hopefully it wouldn't fall out. She felt too embarassed by the one peice swim suit, she hadn't shown that much skin in her life! So, she wore a white cotton strapless dress over it that came to her mid calf, that was more bearable.
As soon as she walked onto the beach she spotted Doucan. Natsu tilted her head to one side, what was it exactly what they were playing? She was sure she'd find out eventually but untill then she would play cheerleader. She set her blue towel close but not too close to the group and clapped her hands excitedly. "Do your best, Dou-chan," she whispered before biting her lower lip in expectation.

Doucan took a long stride forward and pushed her weight lightly into the air with her foreleg, knocking the ball back up into the air-- she wasn't quite sure what she was doing, and had therefore put too much into the hit. The ball rocketed upward and fell back, a little closer to the net than it had been, but still on their side of the court.

Kemekin watched and winced at the smack he'd heard when Doucan had hit the ball. As it came back down, he dashed forward and leaped into the air, twisting sideways and flexing his shoulder to bring his the heel of his palm hard against the ball, spiking it over the net.

Natsu stared, entranced by the ball. Her mouth made a small "o" shape and she lifted her fisted hands to her face so her large blue eyes were peering over her knuckles. What would happen next!

Something grabbed him hard around the legs and tugged him backwards into to the water. He yelped, but somehow seemed to avoid getting a mouthful of sea water.
He quickly and glanced around, catching sight of the mass of white-blond hair in his peripheral vision. Rudeth grinned and spun around, catching his girlfriend by the waist.
"Gotcha!" Rudeth grinned.

Aritha barely dodged getting a pile of Rudeth on top of her, bad planning on her part, and started trying to swim away with a grin dancing on the corner of her lips.
She didn't get very far. Rudeth pulled her right out of the water, grinning as widely as she was. Aritha squealed slightly and flailed, at the moment no match for her boyfriend's strength. Squirming to the point she was facing him, Aritha threw her arms around his neck and gave him a very salty kiss.
"And what are you going to do with me now that you've caught me?" she asked him archly, smothering her grin to better achieve the daring expression on her face. It didn't last long, and the daring very quickly turned merely mischievous.

Doucan's return was a bit weak, and for a moment it looked like the point was going to go to Hitomi and Jaymie. Then, out of nowhere, Kemekin darted out toward the net and sent the ball hurtling back toward them.
Damn. Kemekin was good.
The ball darted just barely out of Jaymie's reach. Hitomi dove toward it and skidded through the sand, but wasn't quite quick enough. The ball bounced off of her elbow and escaped somewhere off to her left.
Hitomi huffed and pulled herself up from the sand. Oh, yeah. Kemekin was good. She gritted her teeth.
"Nice spike, Kemekin!" Hitomi forced a grin.
