Korlian winced slightly as the cloth was pulled away, clenching his jaw against the sound of protest his body tried to add to his already damaged pride. Though, he contented himself, I have certainly been proving my brother wrong. ...Am I really that pathetic, that proving Lhachlhass wrong makes me actually feel justified?
He huffed a slight sigh, glancing at the sun and then looking away. "It's nearly noon... I am rarely out so late," he chuckled slightly. "I expect thou will soon keep the same hours. Was there not something about hiding in the shadows for thee?"

“Not as I recall,” Conall answered, thinking back on the Crone’s words as he moved slightly away from Aimhirghin, finishing his work. “Though it might be useful to do so. She said only that I would live as a shadow from the Otherworld, feared by men and beasts alike, hunting them all for prey. And with every human I killed, I would come further under her thrall. Though I'm not sure what that entails... I'm not a Fae, as ye are. Can a man... or whatever I am... be either Seelie or Unseelie?” he wondered aloud.
Not human, not Fae... neither living nor dead. What am I? I wish she had told me, or that I had thought to ask. Perhaps it's up to me to give myself a name.

"Any may be Seelie or Unseelie. It is not just a court, it is as much a way of thinking. From thy actions thus far, I would say thou are Seelie. Traditional, and more... amiable to humans. Seelie and Unseelie are titles, nothing more. A name given to identify what can not be measured."
Korlian sighed slightly, pulling the bandage looser so he could breathe more easily. Sighing slightly, he sat against a tree and leaned his head back against it. His stomach tried to growl and he snarled something under his breath that would have been incomprehensible in any case.

Conall nodded contemplatively as he considered Aimhirghin's words. Seelie was definitely the way of thinking he wished to uphold. But though it told him something of his inner self, it didn't help him to know more about the outer, the physical.
He frowned a little as Aimhirghin's stomach growled softly, remembering that he should probably feed soon too. A young deer would be more than enough for them both; Conall could drain the blood easily, leaving the meat for the Sidhe, and the pelt and bones for other uses. He spoke his thoughts aloud for Aimhirghin to hear and accept or reject.

Korlian nodded slightly, "That would be well. I could summon such a creature here; less distance for thee to drag it here."
He glanced around, trying to push himself up. The movement affected his chest muscles enough to hurt and he yelped slightly, allowing himself to settle again. At least he could breathe easily.

Conall looked at the Sidhe in concern, moving to his side. "Perhaps ye shouldn't move too much... ye're still healing. Are ye able to breathe?" He checked the bandages; maybe he'd wrapped them too tightly. They seemed to be fine. He moved his hands away, but lingered by Aimhirghin's side, keeping his eyes on him.

"I am well enough," he said, carefully pushing himself more upright. Pulling out his panpipes, he took a deep breath and began to play. The haunting song floated through the air, and several deer soon came into their sight, moving almost stiffly. Korlian nodded toward them, still playing. His eyes looked closely at Conall, glancing again toward the prey that moved almost aimlessly around them. A hoof came close and he flinched away, the notes from his pipe cutting off for a second as he gasped, then continuing before the deer had a chance to bolt away.

Conall chose a young stag and moved quietly toward it, seeing that Aimhirghin's music prevented him from being noticed. He sank his fangs into the stag's neck, quickly and quietly draining its blood, moving down to his knees as the animal's legs buckled when it died.
He pulled away, licking blood from his lips, the dead deer lying across his knees. He lifted his eyes slowly to look up at Aimhirghin, not moving or speaking.

The moment Conall's fangs had entered his prey, Korlian stopped playing and the deer that could, scattered. He looked at the pipes, cleaning them and putting them away.
"Thou looks ridiculous like that," he said softly, smiling mischievously at the man. "Thou has been hunting before, I trust? Not of the previous days with thy teeth, but to bring the creature home?"

"Of course," Conall answered, getting to his feet and rummaging carefully through his pack for a knife -- it would be easier to use than a sword. Guarding his hand with his sleeve, he found a suitable blade and pulled it out.
He returned to the dead deer and skinned and gutted it quickly: it was a much less gruesome task than it otherwise would have been if he had not first drank the blood. He looked up at Aimhirghin, pausing in his work. "How do ye like to prepare venison? Stewed, roasted on a spit, or otherwise?"

"I honestly have little care at the moment. Roasted works well for me, close to the flame to hurry the process. I would eat it raw, but..." he shrugged slightly. "In this forest, even for a Fae that is a bad idea."
He shifted again, sitting up more easily with less pain. "Thou could boil it for all I care."

Conall nodded, finishing with skinning the deer and beginning to cut the meat away from the bones. He left the sinews uncut as much as he could, knowing their usefulness, and kept most of the organs and bones intact as well, other than washing them. He wondered briefly what to do with the hoofs, and set them aside for the moment. The pelt he washed and scraped, then stretched out to dry. He mashed the brain carefully, smearing it over the underside of the pelt to prepare it for tanning.
He emptied the pot of the water he had been using to bathe Aimhirghin's wounds with, scrubbing it out carefully before refilling it from the stream and setting the meat in it to boil. He looked at the surrounding plant life again; some herbs would be good to flavor the meat, though if Aimhirghin was willing to eat it raw, it didn't seem to matter too much either way. Conall left the meat in the pot alone, keeping an eye on it, making sure the pot didn't boil over.

Korlian sighed and looked around, stifling a yawn. He had slept part of the night and half of the day, but he was still tired. Watching the water boil with a distant gaze, he felt himself drift off. Before he could rouse himself again, he slumped against the tree behind him and fell asleep.
He was backed against a wall, pinned by a creature he could not put a name to. Fangs grew from its eyeteeth, coming over its lips as it licked his throat. He struggled against the thing, which he couldn't even identify the gender of. His head turned away, accidentally revealing the jugular vein that throbbed with his quickened heartbeat. His chin was pushed back, forcing his head as far over as it could without snapping his neck and a tongue left a cool trail along the vein. He fought harder, trapped between the wall and a body cooler than his. Shivering as lips pressed lightly against his throat, he tried one last time to pull away before fangs sank into his neck. His vision clouded, and his body slowly fell limp.
Korlian screamed, jerking awake with a hand at his neck, his fingers pressed against the vein in his neck. He could feel the blood pulsing rapidly beneath his fingers and slowly calmed, closing his eyes again.

Conall jumped as Aimhirghin screamed, seeing the Sidhe jolt awake, apparently from a nightmare. He watched quietly as Aimhirghin calmed and closed his eyes again; then Conall looked back at the meat he had set out on flat slabs of rock near the fire to stay warm. He turned a few pieces over, making sure they wouldn't burn.
"Dinner is ready, my lord," he told his comapnion, able to tell by his breathing that he was still awake. "Though ye might call it supper by now," he laughed, looking over at the sun, which shone a bright, deep gold through the trees, hanging close to the horizon. He picked up a stone plate and carried it over to Aimhirghin, seating himself beside the Fae and watching him carefully.

Korlian's eyes opened reluctantly as he looked over at Conall. He looked at the stone in Conall's hand and silently took it, poking at the meat with disinterest. Forcing himself to eat the rather plain meal, he looked at the man. Being... babysat by this man was rankling, irritating beyond belief. But... he still didn't feel well enough to be on his own (Perhaps the Kelpie's claws had gotten something into the wound...) and Conall was willing to continue taking care of him, at least for the time.
"Thank you," he said softly, setting aside more than half of what Conall had given to him. It was too plain for him to eat now that he was no longer so hungry. At least it would be preserved and he could eat more later when he was actually hungry.

Conall smiled slightly at the Sidhe's rare show of humility, though he knew that they both knew Conall was the cause of Aimhirghin's pain, and he knew Aimhirghin was deeply irritated by that knowledge. That took away much of the strange satisfaction, even slight pride, that Conall felt at being thanked genuinely by a Fae.
"Ye're welcome," he replied, watching his companion in silence, trying not to seem obtrusive. Aimhirghin wasn't eating much, but that was to be expected and easily forgiven, given his injuries as well as his emotional state. "How is yer chest feeling?"

"It hurts like hell," he growled, then his expression faded to something less... harsh. He sighed slightly. "But nothing concerning. Thou cleaned the wound well, I merely need the time to heal. I do wish that I could be home recuperating, but that is impossible."
He looked away slightly, indicating his unwillingness to continue on that vein. "Can thou eat? Might it, perhaps, lessen thy need for blood, though it would obviously not serve the same need."

Conall looked curiously at the other stone slab next to the fire, then rose to his feet and retrieved it. He chose the smallest peice of meat, taking a small bite and chewing it silently.
It felt odd to be eating real food after subsiding on a diet of blood for even a few days and nights; there was no taste to it. It was like swallowing ashes or sawdust, but he did swallow. Carefully. The meat settled oddly in his stomach, and he grimaced, resisting an urge to vomit.
"Apparently it doesn't agree with me," he said through clenched teeth.

"Well, it was worth a try," Korlian shrugged. He watched Conall for a moment, his expression slowly turning to something that might be called concerned, but not quite.
"If it's causing thee trouble, there are bushes all around," he said pointedly, raising a brow at the man. It was not as though Korlian had never gotten ill before or anything.

Conall nodded, getting up and moving quickly over to the nearest clump of bushes, leaning over as far as he could and retching blood and chewed meat. He wiped his lips on his sleeve, then crossed to the stream and knelt down to rinse his mouth before coming back to Aimhirghin.
"At least now I know what my stomach can and can't hold," he said with a shrug as he sat down. He'd probably need to feed again soon now that his stomach was empty, but he didn't mention that concern aloud.

"Always a useful thing," Korlian said, twitching away from Conall as he sat near. It was instinctive, and for some reason Korlian immediately felt guilty about it. His hand moved to his neck and he forced himself to lower it before he reached his throat. There was no doubt in his mind where the nightmare had come from, but there was no reason to react to the man when he'd shown no interest in Korlian's blood. After all, if he'd had any interest in Korlian's blood, he wouldn't have so easily bandaged his chest.
"But now that your stomach is empty, we should take care of that," he chuckled, raising his pipes again. He chuckled again with a rather dark smirk, "What are you in the mood for?"

"Hmmm..." Conall ran his tongue over his fangs as he watched Aimhirghin raise his panpipes. He was interested to try something other than sheep and deer's blood for a change. Perhaps something canine or feline.
"What manner of predators live in this wood? Apart from ourselves and yer kin," he said with a laugh. "Wildcats, wolves?"

Korlian smiled slightly, lifting his pipes to his lips. The song rose softly, with the impression of hunting, of asking. It didn't sound like it was the demanding he'd played for the deer, or even the birds he'd called. Finally, slowly a large wildcat came into the clearing, its yellow eyes locked on Korlian. The Fae nodded slightly, the sound turning to almost apologetic and thanking. The cat nodded slightly as the music continued.

Conall moved silently over to the cat, kneeling down to be level with it and respectfully murmuring his thanks before sinking his fangs into its throat. The animal died quickly and silently as Conall drained its blood. He regretted having to kill such a beautiful creature, but it was much smaller than a deer, and had less blood to offer him. Even after drinking every drop, he didn't feel full.
He regarded the cat's body for a moment, then picked it up and rose to his feet with a nod to Aimhirghin. "I'll be back soon; I need to bury this." As far from the river as possible was a good idea. He didn't want to foul the water; he'd done enough of that already, and look what it had caused.
He slipped away into the trees, finding a suitable spot below a tree and digging a small grave in the soft earth. He laid the cat down gently and carefully replaced the earth, pressing it down firmly as he rose to his feet again. Brushing the dirt from his knees, he turned away and returned to Aimhirghin.

Korlian lowered his pipes when Conall knelt at the cat. He sighed slightly, stretching carefully. Hissing, he curled up around his chest and snarled something best left untranslated and possibly involving the Kelpie's mother. He stood carefully, stretching again.
"Thank thee for thy help," he said, giving the man a slight nod.
