Tristan was running a more than a little late, but at long last, he managed to drag himself into the kitchen. He was slightly disheveled from having to break up another fight between students, and even before that had not been in the best of moods.
Without a word, Tristan grabbed a plate and began loading it up with scoops of various things at random, then plopped down in the first available seat he saw -- which was, incidentally enough, right beside Alex.
He glanced around then table, then at Rivienne. "Your husband not here today?" he asked, smirking. Even after over twenty something years of Rivienne being married to him, Tristan had never really liked the man, and he couldn't quite hide the slight tone of triumph in his voice.

Rivienne glanced at her brother with the same reprimanding look she often gave her children. "Yao is busy with something right now," she replied coolly. She glanced at Rudy and Thrall. "He said he would come as soon as he found a stopping point."
Of course, that didn't quite mean anything... This was not the first time Yao had skipped out on a family affair.
Rivienne slipped into the seat beside Thrall and took a bite out of the curry.

Thrall kept his eyes on his food (not that that was too hard, as his mouth was already burning pleasantly). He never liked it when his family argued, especially not about his father; he respected the man deeply for his work, all the more now that he'd realized his own path lay elsewhere.
"Hey, Uncle," he said between bites of rice, lamb, and peppers. "How's life? Anything explode in class today?"
He considered briefly asking Tristan later if he could chaperone the orientation trip in November, but Dad had promised he'd think about it. Hitomi could ask him if she wanted.
