It was at that point that Alex decided that decorum could go fuck itself; he got up from his seat and ran off to find Hitoshi.

Korlian looked at her, narrowing his eyes. Who was... ah yes. The 'headmistress' of this mockery. He snorted. This woman had intimidated him? This... nothing? He watched Lhachlhass' reaction and smiled softly, moving to stand at her other side. He let the glamour fade... replacing it only slightly with a semblance of his favored elegant silks and velvets, allowing the scar on his cheek to show. Scars intimidated people, especially scars like the one he had. It looked like he'd been cut in a fight... there was a far less complimentary story behind it but Korlian was a master at telling stories. He leaned in slightly at her, his cold white fingers brushing her cheek lightly.
"You forget your place, little bloodsucker. Infant of a pointless time, foolishly thinking you could control us..." he purred. The feline aspects of his face were far stronger now than they had been... he had all the elegance, grace... and danger of a panther in the hunt. His finger traced her jawline, though in a way that she couldn't possibly attempt to bite him. "You will learn your folly now."

Veronique gritted her teeth, her fists balling up at her sides. She couldn't quite manage to be irritated at Alex for running away; she certainly didn't want any of her students injured, and hopefully he would be smart enough to find one of the other professors. There was something in the air tonight -- she had felt it before but had pushed it off. No, there was something very wrong with this.
"You are in my school," she snarled. "You will return to your proper places in the audience or you will face the consequences."

Rudeth swept onto the stage as the curtains opened, his footsteps echoing ominously in the quiet of the auditorium. The lights shone dingy green across the apron of the stage, where Rudeth stood. Behind him, the backdrop depicted a rich Victorian ball. The guests danced merrily upstage beneath the dark lighting to a slow waltz which might have been romantic in another situation, but now seemed only to intensify the already macabre scene.
Rudeth loved the stage. It was a part of him, and when on the stage, he was no longer Rudeth, but someone else. As the cape swirled behind him, he was the careless young Prince. Not that this was much of a stretch for Rudeth, of course. He was at home here, and he could think of nowhere else he would rather be.
The music died out, and Rudeth turned out stage left as the adviser and elder nobleman approached.
The prince grinned. "Surely the two of you have not called me away from my guests in order to discuss affairs of state?" he asked, his voice alight with merriment. "Come, let us forget our troubles for one night."

Korlian laughed at the woman his brother held captive. "My my, defiant to the end aren't you, little mosquito? You think this foolish little play interests us?"
He let his true form show, towering over her. He looked at Lhachlhass, smiling softly. "So... shall we let her loose and enjoy the hunt?"
This night will be short... and I fear this will not last. I will be trapped in that infuriating form once more. A life of fear is no life for one such as I... Korlian gave his feral grin, bloodthirsty as his brother. This woman had treated his brother badly... had threatened him and abused him. Only Korlian was allowed to do that, as only Lhachlhass got away with treating him so. They relied too much on the other for survival, had for some time. "This castle is no more yours than the forest outside. This land cries out to its true masters... and they will take it back."

Ellie sat up a little straighter and jumped a bit as her knee bumped Hoshi's. She must have spaced slightly during intermission. It had nothing to do with the play-- she loved the theater. Mayhap it had something to do with the fact that she had come to every performance... Or the slight buzzing that she could feel at the edges of her auditory perception.

Vincent strode boldly forward to address the Prince, with his sword at his hip and his cape billowing out behind him, looking and feeling every inch the dignified nobleman he was portraying. He allowed the atmosphere of the play to seep inside him, breathing it in and intensifying his characterization. This was one of the many, many things he loved about the theater -- the chance to set himself aside for awhile and explore a whole new persona.
"My good Prince," the nobleman spoke up gravely, bowing slightly to the Prince in a show of respect. "There are matters at hand -- pressing matters -- which your Highness cannot ignore. You cannot continue to hide yourself away from what is beyond these walls. The threat that you fear cares nothing for mortar and stone, or lock and key. Sooner or later it will find a way in."

Hoshi leaned forward in his seat, his arms braced on his knees. He jolted slightly when Ellie's knee bumped against his. He must have been zoning in an out -- he didn't remember when the play had started, but sure enough, the actors were on the stage once more.
There was something strange in the air tonight, though he couldn't quite explain it. It was almost dreamlike in places, at once both hazy and all to clear. He leaned back in his seat, reaching for his drink. Hadn't it been there before? Or, no... he had finished it during the first act. Had he?
He shook himself, focusing back on the play. He must have been tired.

Lhachlhass wrapped the tuft of hair around his hand, bringing it to Veronique's scalp and digging his nails into the skin. He added pressure as he stood considering his brother's words.
He gave her another violent shake. "What do you think Bitch? Should I let you try to run? Do you think you are clever enough to beat me in the hunt? I don't. Do you think the others here would help you? I don't. They all hate you. You're worthless and cruel and no one cares for you. So what if you are in trouble? Or die? Nobody in this whole damn world cares."
Lhachlhass smiled. "Yes, let's hunt, you can find out just how worthless you are. You won't make good sport but I pity you," he began dragging her to the edge by her hair. "Now time to.." He lifted her by her hair "RUN!" He threw her over the balcony with all the force he could muster.

Sa'id had just adjusted to being wet and sticky when something much larger and angrier fell on him. He yelped loud and began changing instinctively before remembering the young student who'd fallen on him earlier in the year; he certainly didn't want a repeat of that incident.
So he sat mildly dumbfounded, briefly stuck somewhere between human and wolf, before recognizing the person who'd fallen on him. Sa'id yelped again and covered his face with his hands. Paws. Sigh.

Rudeth laughed jovially, clapping Vincent on the back. "My good man, there is no threat at all to speak of," the prince cajoled. Rudeth snatched a glass from a nearby table, outstretching it to Vincent. "Have a drink," he implored. "Dance with a woman."
The shriek tore through the air. Rudeth faltered slightly at the sight of the headmaster toppling down from her box into the audience -- but only for a second. Quickly he regained character.
"There is no threat that can breech the safety of our walls," the prince continued, his voice full of quiet gravity. His eyes fell squarely on the headmaster.

Veronique yelped as the ground moved from beneath her feet. For a brief moment she was airborne. She landed roughly on top of the person below the box, her elbow jamming into a furry nose. Without glancing back to see who she had landed on -- perhaps to Sa'id's benefit -- Veronique jumped to her feet. There was something very wrong happening now, and Veronique was going to get to the bottom of it.
But first, she was getting away from here. The headmaster swept down the aisle and through the backstage door. She was finding her staff.

Vincent flinched a little in the action of taking the glass from Rudeth, his eyes darting toward Veronique as she inexplicably fell from her box into the audience below. Quickly regaining character, but keeping his eyes on the Headmistress, he raised the glass to his lips but did not drink.
"Even so, Highness," the nobleman spoke up again, "you would do well to be wary, and not lose yourself in revelry. For who can tell all that awaits beyond our sight?"
He watched the Headmistress quietly, glad to see her get up and walk away from where she had landed. She didn't seem to have been hurt.

From his vantage point backstage, Ian saw the strangest thing that he had seen since arriving at Dunehelden, with the notable exception of Jonathan appearing out of thin air. Had the headmistress really just fallen out of her box? Ian looked around, expecting someone to stop the play, but when no one moved, Ian figured that the show was still going on. Damn. Ian shifted his ridiculous hat, took a deep breath, and tried to slip into his character, just as Natalie had taught him.
Then he bounded out onto the stage, twirling his arms dramatically. "The good man is right, your excellency!" Ian howled dramatically, a smirk planted on his face. What an odd business, this acting. "We lock ourselves in this fortress, and yet outside, the night grows ever darker. Even now it beats on your walls, demanding entry into your halls and chambers." Ian dropped his voice to a low, mocking growl. "The horror that beats on your doors will boil your blood and grind your bones into dust. All that's left will be ashes, my lord, ashes upon ashes!" He let out a sarcastic laugh.
I'm not too bad at this acting thing...

Alex dashed down the aisles, trying to keep his head low. He squeezed by the other people in the row, not paying much attention, until he finally got back to Hitoshi. He grabbed the other boy and held him, half-whispering in his ear; by that time he was almost more afraid for Hitoshi, if this got out of hand, than himself.
"Something's happening to the-" there was the sound of a yelp, followed by much muttering- "they're trying to kill the Headmaster, the boys who think they're fae. And something's happened to them."

Hitoshi jolted as the other boy grabbed him, only processing half of what Alex was saying. Any pleasure he felt at seeing Alex again was quickly overshadowed by the sight of the headmaster tumbling out of the box into the seats below. There was someone there in the box, and though Hitoshi was not at a proper angle for making out any details, Alex had already given him the answer. Lhachlhass--and his creepy little brother.
Hitoshi grabbed Alex by the arm, hauling him toward the back of the auditorium. The wise thing to do, he supposed, would have been to ask for Rivienne or Tristan's help, but Hitoshi couldn't be bothered with that right now.
Hitoshi leaned in toward the other boy until his nose nearly touched the shell of his ear. "Alex," he hissed, pitching his voice for Alex's ears alone, "what do you mean, something's happened to them?"

"I- I don't know. But they don't look human anymore. At all. Lhachlhass was normal one second and not the next." Alex clung to Hitoshi; he'd seen what the boy could do, and felt a little less worried beside him. "Where are we going?"

He should have known. That signs had been there, after all; Hitomi had noticed something, though she had refused to say anything, and there had been disappearances in the forest for weeks. He should have known, and he was a student. Why the hell hadn't anyone else put it together?
"We're staying back here," he replied, leaning against the back wall. "If anything else happens, we'll be right at the exit, and we can still see everything that's going on."
Hitoshi pulled Alex tighter. Normally he would have been more embarrassed about being so close to him, but it was comforting to have him so close right now. "I think I know what happened," he murmured, "and if I'm right, things are going to get a lot worse."

Aritha forcibly ignored everything outside of the stage. Ian came cavorting out perfectly, and Rudy was imploring Vincent to lighten up...
"My lord, you do underestimate the threat. Our walls are not impenetrable to that which is unseen," she implored, looking at him appealingly. Female advisor meant flirting, and Smoke had rather given her free rein on that. Which was great because Rudy was certainly very attractive and so very easy to flirt with. Even better, he flirted back. Her favorite game. "Please my lord, do not let this levity make you blind to the danger that waits outside."

Zeph saw Aritha and smiled. He could see her touch in all of the costumes... she'd found her element, that was for certain. Though with how nervous she looked, she wasn't going to get on the stage again. But she'd certainly surprised him before, and probably would again. Zeph reached around his brother, squeezing Jason's shoulder a little.
He jumped as the headmistress fell from the balcony, looking over his shoulder with confusion and concern. Mostly because anything that made Veronique yelp like that was something to be worried about. At his angle, Zeph couldn't see anything and he wasn't sure if he was pleased about that, or concerned as all hell. His hand tightened more around Jason's shoulder, now wondering if Jason had seen what happened.

Backstage, Kazari tapped her lower lip and gazed up at the work of ropes and weights that allowed the curtains to be controlled. She and Gussu had been designated as curtain-pullers, which was perfectly fine with her. That gave her plenty of time between scenes to torture mess play with Gussu.
At the moment, however, she was faced with a problem. At the beginning of the last scene, one of the weights had gotten caught around another rope and jammed. Nothing was wrong with the curtain in its current position, but with the new knot moving the curtains was going to be a real bitch. Of course, she could always climb up to the rafters and untangle the mess from there, which was something she had been told not to do. But that was before the ropes had tangled.
Why, in a school centered around magic, they had to rely on a system of ropes and pulleys was beyond her.
"Gu-kun," she whispered, craning her neck in search of her friend. "Guuuu-kuuuuun!"

Kazari curled her index finger at Gussu, indicating that he should come closer. Without a word of explanation she span him around so that his back was to her and gripped his shoulders from behind, climbing deftly up onto them. "Lift up this Kazari," she told him, pointing towards the knot overhead.

Kazari stretched her torso upwards and managed to untangle the ropes within a minute. Satisfied with her work, and still gripping the ropes to keep them separated, she ruffled Gussu's hair with her free hand and grinned. "Thank you, this Kazari does." She released the ropes and, in her efforts to pull away, realized that her hand was now caught.
Shit.
