The fact that Professor Smoke had actually bothered to give divination homework should, in retrospect, have been a sign that the universe was working against Hitoshi today.
It was bad enough that Alex's Tuesday schedule didn't allow him to eat at the same time as Hitoshi, and on top of that, the private kitchen was reserved for the headmistress until further notice due to damage to her quarters. Which meant, unfortunately for Hitoshi, he had to eat the cafeteria food. And he had to eat in the cafeteria.
Hitoshi had managed to arrive early enough to find an empty table near the back, and had essentially claimed it in its entirety by littering it with an assortment of text books and homework assignments. He didn't need most of them, but it helped get the point across: he wanted to be left alone.

Evanthra's day was going well, which meant that because fate was cruel and heartless that way, Hitoshi's seemed to be going bad. Not that the girl noticed, well she did as soon as Hitoshi seemed to plop down and create a barrier around himself at the table she was occupying. Of course that was his problem and not hers. But as long as he brought his sulking to her, she figured she might as well ask.
"Can I ask what the problem is or will you glare at me manically until I shut up?" Out of nowhere she seemed to appear, sitting right across from Hitoshi. She blinked a few times, not even realizing she had an illusion spell on herself. Sometimes her illusion talents worked a little too well...or she just forgot.

Hitoshi glanced up, his pencil momentarily halting over his math homework. "I don't have a problem," he replied coolly, "aside from the fact that a strange girl just appeared at my table and is distracting me from homework."
He turned back to his homework, focusing on the calculus problem in front of him. If he ignored her, she would probably get bored and go away after a few minutes.

Evanthra raised an eyebrow at him for a moment and studied him closely. "That would make sense, had you not sat down across from me. I've been here ten minutes longer then you have." However her lips pulled upwards into a smirk and she tilted her head slightly to the side.
"Then if you don't have a problem, whats the barrier of books and belongings about? Don't give me some story about you trying to study either. We both know that's bullshit, even if you are doing math." Her teal eyes moved over the paper leaning closer, examining the problems.
"What the hell is that? Seriously."

Hitoshi narrowed his eyes at her, pulling the book back toward him. "It's calculus," he replied crisply. "What I'm doing is my own business. Is it a crime to expect a little privacy?"
Hitoshi flipped open a binder and stood it on its edge, blocking the girl from view. Take a hint and stop bothering me...

Evanthra's teal eyes widened comically at the word calculus. She mouthed it for a moment, eyes rolling before shaking her head. "You do know that unless you're going for a job in engineering Calculus is completely pointless?" It wasn't really a question, more of a statement but she didn't really seemed bothered by the fact he didn't really want her presence around. She was probably used to it, which that by itself was sort of sad.
She eyed his binder for a moment, eyebrow raised as she stared at it like it held some sort of magical secret or something. However she soon got bored of merely staring at it, and gave it a few pokes until it fell over. "Privacy is overrated. The real strength lies in being able to walk around with no privacy and not be bothered by it."

"I like calculus," he countered, glaring back at her. "And I'm not interested in 'strength'. I want peace, quiet, and personal space."
Why in the world was this girl so determined to irritate him? Did she seriously have nothing better to do with her lunch?
He had lost his place working on a difficult problem and would have to start from the beginning again. He sighed and pushed up his glasses.

As a matter of fact, Evanthra didn't have anything else fun to do at the moment. One really couldn't count annoying the asian across from her as fun, but she would take what she could get for the time being. She poked at her food for a moment, occupied with it briefly before she returned to staring at him.
Underneath the table she stretched out her legs, allowing a soft yawn to escape her lips. She hadn't been sleeping well lately. Somehow that didn't surprise her. Her birthday was coming up, and she always got anxious around that. Slowly she dug into one of her slings, pulling out a small lollipop, unwrapping it and popping it into her mouth.
Slowly she held out another in her hand to him. "Want a lollipop?"

Hitoshi blinked at her for a moment, his pencil stilling on the paper. "Do... what?" He turned back to his homework. "I don't care for candy."
Hitoshi absently picked at the strange pasta-like concoction on his tray, debating whether or not to eat it. On the one hand, most people did seem to like the school cook's creations. On the other hand, the last time he got what he thought was mashed potatoes it turned out to be some sort of sugar-and-peanut butter confection filled with m&ms. Whatever the pasta was actually made out of, he really doubted it was marinara sauce.

A small gasp escaped her mouth, candy dangling between her lips as she stared at him with something mixed of shock and disbelief. "You're not a fan of candy? There must be something wrong with you. Everyone loves candy. If not all candy, then they have something in particular."
She gave the hard candy end a suck, pulling it from her lips and pointed it at him for a moment. "No wonder you're so grumpy. Lack of sugar and caffeine does that to people."

"I never said I didn't like sugar or caffeine," he grumbled. "I said I didn't care for candy."
He glanced at the clock above the door and winced. He still had almost half an hour before his next class started. "Is there any particular reason you're so determined to harrass me?" he replied, his voice deadpan. "The cafeteria is practically full. I'm sure you could find someone more appreciative of your company."

"Nope, no reason. If I had a reason I would cut straight to the point. I don't like to drag things out like some people around here do..."She sighed lazily, looking around and up at the clock. It seemed time was being slow today, how unfortunate. She continued to peer around the cafeteria for a moment and raised an eyebrow.
"Believe me, this doesn't entertain me at all. Well, it sort of does, since you are reacting. If you didn't get irritated then I wouldn't bother. Well, actually I probably would only try harder. Either way, the point is you still sat here. I sit here every day - whether you see me or not. You have no one to blame but yourself."

Evanthra shrugged a bit, "I'm not really doing it on purpose. You're letting me get under your skin. It's not my fault that you can't take what I say with a grain of rice." She gave a shrug and tilted her head slightly to the side.
She suddenly grinned a bit, tilting her head to a weird angle as she looked at him. "Friends? No, not really. I don't have any friends. Why would I need them?"

Hitoshi sighed. "Of course not," he muttered. "Why would you need friends when you could annoy the hell out of people you don't know. It provides all the entertainment and none of the emotional attachment."
Hitoshi shoved his calculus book away, finished with his homework at last, and jab apprehensively at something on his plate. Why on earth couldn't they serve something normal?

Evanthra shrugged a bit, the words sounding a bit more callous then how it did mentally in her mind. "Well, whats the point in being friends with people who don't understand me?" She asked quietly, returning her head to it's normal position.
"So, uh, I take it you're a mage?" She asked quite suddenly, as if it suddenly dawned on her she might be talking to one of the night walkers. She generally tried not to piss those folks off.

"I might be," he replied. "Does it matter to you?"

Hitoshi glanced back down, writing for a few moments on an essay that wasn't technically due until the end of the week. After a few moments, he glanced back up.
"Is there any particular reason you're staring at me?" he asked, tapping his pencil on the table. It was irritating...and more than a little unnerving.

"You remind me of Professor Hoshi."

"That's not necessarily a bad thing you know. I meant it as a compliment. I didn't mean to offend." She smiled a bit and tilted her head to the side a bit. "Why does it offend you to take after a man with a job and whom he says I sexually harass him on a regular basis."
She grinned a bit, rocking back and fourth in her seat. "That's not my concern. It's not my job to pick up the trash."

"It is when it's your trash," he replied pointedly. "There's a trash can not two yards away, and you're just going to leave it on the floor for someone else to have to pick up."
