Aramis grinned. "That's actually my middle name," he said, waving off her offering. "I've got my own quarters, I'll take care of it. Hannon le, though."
He grinned and moved over to the jukebox, keying in a few slow, non-pop, American songs. Specifically, Seal's "Kiss From A Rose" and a few of One Republic's songs. He'd said something to dance to, after all. It probably would take a bit for them to come up in the rotation, so he took his time coming back to Du.
Surprisingly, "Kiss From A Rose" came up as he reached her, so he offered her a hand with an elegant bow. If he was going to be dressed up like this, he was going to act the part.

"Really?" Dubhiarr had to laugh. "Wow. your parents must have been hardcore Ringers."
She watched him head over to the jukebox and waited quietly for him to return. She smiled and curtseyed back at him when he bowed to her upon his return, then took his hand and placed her other one on his shoulder.
Her eyes wandered lightly over his costume -- wow, had Aritha ever outdone herself. It made sense that she'd have plenty of spare time to do all of that, though -- it wasn't like she needed to sleep. Du grinned as she returned her gaze to Aramis' face. He looked really cute with pointed ears.

Aramis shrugged. "No, my parents were freaks. Extreme nerds who couldn't handle their books coming to reality in front of them," he said, his manner off-hand but his tone bitter. Then he pulled her gently out onto the dance floor. "Don't mind me, I'll admit I was dragged here forcibly." He smiled slightly. "I don't usually go to parties. Or talk, for that matter." He laughed lightly, then noticed her looking at him and started to turn a little pink. He shook it off, or at least tried to, and gently wrapped his arm around her waist. It was probably a bit more formal than normal, but considering what the two of them were dressed up as, it actually didn't seem all that odd.
He wasn't that bad of a dancer, either. He wouldn't win any prizes, but he didn't trip, and he never once stepped on Du's toes. Not that he would ever admit that it was a bit of an accomplishment that he was even able to dance.

Dubhiarr nodded. Though she didn't have the same experience with mortals as Aramis had -- her whole family were mages, after all -- she could see how it would have been hard for them and for Aramis. "I'm sorry about that. It must have been rough when you Awakened."
She smiled as they began to dance; Aramis wasn't half bad. She twirled away from him and then returned, clasping his hand and shoulder again. She wondered if he felt awkward about dancing with a girl who was taller than him -- but then again, she was taller than practically everyone here. Though Rudeth, she noticed, had just about caught up to her.
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?" she asked curiously.

Blaise raised an eyebrow at the music. He'd never heard the song before, and it was...not quite to his usual taste, but music was music.
"I hope you know how to dance." Blaise grinned and grabbed Rhys by the sleeve, hauling him onto the dance floor.

"To this? This is what my mom listens to." He looked skeptical, but shrugged.
"I guess we'll find out. You wanna lead or you want me to try?" Rhys set his hands on Blaise's shoulders, trying to figure out how to do this, or whether Blaise even meant something else.

"Nah, haven't seen them yet. Wonder what they're doing, though. Neither of them said anything about what they were going to be."
Rudeth glanced over at Jaymie. "Yeah, they're still dating, unless there's something I don't know." He paused for a moment, then beamed. "Which reminds me! You should congratulate me. In a few weeks, Bianca and I will be having our one year anniversary."

Thrall smirked; not that it could be seen behind his mask, but his brother could probably tell Thrall was smirking from the other side of Faerie.
"Oh, really? Should I be more amazed that you kept a girlfriend that long, or that you got a new one before I was even in the ground? I had no idea you had such a thing for vampire chicks."

Rudeth stared at his brother blankly for a second, then smashed his fist into Thrall's arm with Herculean force.
"I would have kicked you," he replied, in much the same tone as his brother, "but I'm in a skirt."

Aramis shook his head. "Don't have parents anymore either," he said. "At least, one that are willing to admit I'm related to them. They didn't notice for the first few years, but I got stupid summer before last. Made a tree grow from a sapling to tall enough for me to climb in a few months. Even they couldn't miss that. But, I got everything of mine out when I got out, so it's all okay."
He sighed. "Sorry. I guess family is a bit of a sore point right now. I mean, I never was particularly close to them, but I thought I meant more than that."
Shaking his head, he just danced quietly for a moment. "Was that your sister you came in with?"

"Gah!" Thrall grabbed his arm, trying not to fall over from the combined force of his laughter and the fact that that had actually hurt somewhat.
He backed away from his brother and towards the refreshment table. "At least you know who's wearing the pants, huh? Hey, I'm getting some candy- you want some?"

Aritha giggled, then put a hand on Rudeth's arm. "It's my fault, Thrall. We weren't really together until after your funeral, anyway."
She smiled at him brightly. It was going to take a lot more than that to offend her. For one thing, she had had a pretty good idea it was going to happen the moment she'd seen him. "And once I have my fangs in someone, I don't let go," she added, letting her smile grow enough to show them.

Dubhiarr nodded slowly, feeling quite sorry for Aramis. She couldn't imagine what it would have felt like to be disowned like that for something that wasn't his fault. She made a mental note to avoid the subject as much as possible.
"Yeah, that's my sister Elspeth," she replied with a nod. "She's new here, just Awakened in August. We're still trying to figure out exactly what her magic does -- it seems to have to do with manipulating sound. The day she Awakened she somehow went totally deaf for a few hours when she got upset. That was weird. None of my family know sign language, so we used a lot of paper and pens. It went away after she calmed down, though, which was good."

He glanced over and smiled, "She's cute. Dressed as the Little Mermaid, isn't she? A mermaid of some sort, at least."
He looked at Du thoughtfully. "When did you first realize you had magic?" he asked, not even noticing when the music changed. It wasn't like anyone would give them grief for dancing slowly still. Besides, it was easier to talk when one was moving with stately grace rather than spasming like something had gone wrong in their head.

Dubhiarr nodded. "Yup, she's the Little Mermaid. She didn't want to wear the clamshell bra, though, so we found her a dress that looked somewhat fishy. It's convenient that she doesn't have to wear a wig. That's her natural hair color. Mine, too."
"Hmm..." She frowned a little, pursing her lips in thought. "Six, maybe seven years ago. I know Elz couldn't have been older than eight. It was a couple of years before I started here as a freshman. My family coached me on how to use my magic until I was old enough to enroll. They're all mages."

Allan adjusted his curly-haired wig one last time and smoothed his skirts before limping into the hall, with a fur-covered François scooting happily along at his side. They made a pretty good Dorothy and Toto, though Allan definitely wasn't used to walking around in dresses, and it had taken a while for him to find a pair of ruby slippers that would fit him properly. The Internet was a marvelous thing.
He looked around the hall and grinned, looking down at his beloved Roomba. "Well, Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore."
François barked and followed him dutifully, keeping far enough away to not trip his master up as he wandered idly around the room. Allan couldn't help but laugh to himself when he saw a student dressed up as the Wicked Witch of the West, complete with a flying monkey. He wove in between the dancing figures, heading quickly away from the dance floor so neither he nor François risked tripping anyone. There was quite a crowd beginning to gather.

Thrall paused where he was, not saying anything for a moment, then nodded.
"Yeah, I'll get you both some candy. Don't fight any mythical Greek monsters before I get back, 'kay?" He turned away.

"How did you know, I meant," he grinned. "Elspeth went deaf momentarily... what happened for you?"
He kept them from getting in the janitor's way as the man crossed the dance floor, glancing quickly over the crowd. Well, as far as he was concerned, there wasn't anyone else he wanted to spend time with. He was here because Rudeth and Aritha had decided he was going to, and while Aramis was actually pretty good at fighting, Rudeth was bigger and Aritha was a LOT stronger, and Aramis valued his skin a bit better than he valued his privacy.
A part of him rather hoped Carmen would come. At least then there would be one person he wouldn't feel at all awkward with there.

Huh. Was Thrall...jealous? Surely that wasn't it. But it was definitely something.
"That was weird," he murmured, turning back to his girlfriend. "Wonder what's up with Thrall."

Aritha smiled brightly again. "Thank you, Thrall," she said sweetly, moving to rest her head lightly on Rudeth's shoulder.
"Well, he never said anything about staying here," she grinned, kissing Rudeth on the cheek and pulling him onto the dance floor. "We are at a dance, after all," she said brightly.

Joelle looked up as someone walked past her, grinning when she recognized the janitor and his roomba dressed up as Dorothy and Toto. How very appropriate. She called after them with a cackle as they moved away. "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little roomba too! Ahahahahahaha!"

Aramis nodded, shrugging. It was a personal question, she was perfectly in her rights to side-step it. He brightened slightly when she asked him, and he smiled.
"You've seen the horse outside, right? One, he's mine, if you didn't know. I'm not sure if people do or not. Two... it was with him. He was stillborn... the firstborn of his dam. I just felt like I could fix it... and it turned out his heart hadn't been stopped for very long. A little jolt, and he was right as rain. But... I knew that it hadn't been my tapping his chest that brought him back. My heart skipped a beat the moment his started."
He looked a little thoughtful. "That's probably part of why I want to learn healing so badly. Because the first time I ever used magic, it was to heal someone. Sûldae got rather attached to me immediately, too. He won't behave for anyone unless I specifically tell him to."

Dubhiarr's eyes widened at Aramis' story. "Wow. That's awesome. Sounds like you two have quite the bond. And your parents didn't notice anything? Though I guess they probably wouldn't have if they were afraid of what they'd see..."
She bit her lip a little, realizing she'd strayed onto potentially dangerous ground, and changed the subject a little. "How long ago did that happen, with Sûldae?"

"Sometimes a foul is born not breathing and all it takes is a bit of a thump on their chest to get them breathing again," Aramis explained. "And no one else touched him until after I did, so they had no way of knowing."
He thought for a moment. "I was eleven, so almost seven years ago now. He was the best stallion in the herd... Partly breeding, but partly my training. My parents gave him to me when he seemed more interested in spending time with me than he was in spending time with his dam."
He chuckled darkly. "Bet they rue the day they did that."
Shaking his head, he sighed. "Sorry, did it again."
