Ariel felt her cheeks grow warm in sympathy at Jaebi's embarrassed fumble. Unable to keep from grinning to herself, she walked the last few feet to Professor Harrows' desk, set her paper down on it and returned to her own, settling down again next to Jaebi, her eyes on him.

Jaebi's found her gaze yet again and plastered a huge goofy grin on his face. His eyes reduced to slits and the whole expression was inexplicably feline.

The sudden cat-like-ness of Jaebi's expression made Ariel burst into rather loud giggles; she quickly clamped a hand over her mouth to stifle them as heads began to turn toward her. She ducked her head away from the onlookers in embarrassment, her cheeks burning.
"Sorry," she whispered to Jaebi, once she managed to control her laughter. "You just looked really cute for a second there. Almost exactly like a big cat."

Kemekin was between the two of them again, stooping to keep at least partially out of Professor Harrows' view.
"Aww, he's just a big kitten," he insisted, his mocking voice positively saccharine as he palmed Jaebi's spiky hair. "Not a violent bone in his body. I wonder, dude..." He looked directly at Jaebi then, smirking, "I mean, I know you would lose, but how would you do in a fight? I mean, against someone who knows what they're doing?"

"Sod off, Kemekin," Ariel frowned at him, swatting his hand away from Jaebi's head. "Don't make me sic Professor Harrows on you. Trust me, she can be a real bitch when she gets angry. I've seen her." She meant 'bitch' in the literal sense of the word, but Kemekin might not have known that.

Kemekin straightened, the look in his oh-so-very-blue eyes equal parts impressed and mildly shocked.
"Ariel," he gushed theatrically, "Such language! I'd have never thought you capable!"

Ariel sighed and rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Keme, you would be so very handsome if you Just. Didn't. Talk."

Kemekin flashed an angelic smile and tipped his head to one side, managing in his mockery of bashfulness to actually bring a blush to his cheeks. "Aww, you're sweet," he cooed, before he burst into laughter somewhere between a cackle and a chuckle.

Diana read over Ariel and Jaebi's story with interest. An angel and a monster, hmm? There was no need to guess whom they represented. She looked up at where the students in question were seated, giving a sharp look to the bothersome Kemekin.
This was one of the times she was grateful, and yet not grateful, that she couldn't hear. Her deafness prevented her from giving in to auditory distractions, but it also meant that certain students took advantage of that fact to cause as much disruption as humanly possible without fear of reprimand. Or so they thought.
Back to your seat, please, Kemekin, she signed across the room at him.

Nina pushed the door open quietly, peeking into the room with a broad smile on her face. She waved to get the Professor's attention. No response. Well, that was okay. She slipped into the room and walked smoothly over the desk, smiling at the woman.
"Kemekin Evans-Barros is needed in the Sick Bay, please," she said, enunciating to make reading her lips easier. She could feel eyes on her back but ignored them. Silly Freshmen.

Diana smiled as she read Nina's lips, signing in reply. Good afternoon, Miss Paem. Kemekin is right over there. She gestured over to the boy in question before folding her hands in front of her on the desk, giving Nina a quiet nod to indicate that she was free to take Kemekin.

Kemekin did not need to be told to follow Nina-- his eyes were riveted to her the moment she'd walked into the room. He felt an unhindered grin spread across his face and immediately stepped back to his own desk, slinging his backpack over one shoulder and picking up the six (excessive-- the assignment was for two) pages of story he and his partner had finished not two minutes ago. His feet could not carry him to Nina's side fast enough.
"Here you go, Professor," he said politely, reveling in the light citrus aroma that wafted from Nina's hair. He immediately wanted to hug her, to hold her hand and make her smile. The only thing stopping him from doing so was Professor Harrows... he could care less about the presence of a dozen or so of his peers.
Oh, to hell with it. Kemekin clutched Nina's hand in his own and led her to the door, looking back only to wave at Ariel and Jaebi as Nina pulled the door open.

Ariel mouthed a silent "thank you!" to the air as she heard the door close softly behind Kemekin and Nina. She turned her attention back to the revised version of The Song of Thralldom... the revised version begged for a different title. Somehow "thralldom" didn't quite suit a story with a happy ending.
She glanced discreetly over at Jaebi every so often. The way he blushed every time their eyes met... how he reacted to Kemekin's teasing... it was all adding up. He quite obviously liked her. Was it that kind of like, though? They hadn't known each other for very long at all... She liked him too, but more as a friend right now. Besides, teenage crushes didn't tend to grow past... well, teenage crushes.
A string of words floated up to the front of her mind just then. "I like this angel though. She makes the monster seem like less of a monster." Frowning a little as they sank in, Ariel looked up at Jaebi again. Was he, in fact, the frightened monster he had written about? What were the walls that surrounded him? Were they something more than stone?

Jaebi occupied himself with other homework for the next few minutes. During the course of this, he smiled once at Ariel, before returning focus to his math textbook. It wasn't very long before the bell rang, and he began to put his things together. He made a face. P.E. was next, the one class that he never looked forward to.

Ariel continued writing in silence, glancing over at Jae every so often. She grinned when she caught him smiling at her. When the bell rang, she gathered up her books, shoving them into her bookbag and swinging it over her shoulder. She had P.E. next, and so she headed out of the room beside Jaebi, heading toward the gym with him.
