Ian watched Jonathan go, feeling a pang of guilt. It wasn't his fault, really, but he supposed that he would have to take responsibility for Jonathan. He had brought him into the world against the wishes of the laws of nature and magic. He was going to have to live with the consequences.
After these thoughts were finished, Ian turned his attention back to Smoke. "So... um... any idea what just happened? I'm as confused as you are, I think..."

Smoke managed not to glare at Jonathan as he left. If he kept this up, it was going to be a problem, but hopefully he'd recognize how childish he was being. Depending on how the boy even worked, granted...
"I do have some ideas. They require some checking, so I don't want to go into great detail," or scare you, he thought, "but in short, for a mage of your power to create something on that scale, it would require tapping into an external power source. Given the nature of your powers, I... think we will be able to figure out what."
How, now. How was a much better question, and the nature of said questions didn't make him feel any less anxious. Nevertheless, he put on a confident face for Ian, and smiled. "Are you okay? That must've been a shock."

For a moment, Ian thought about that question. "Well... um... I'm not great. I threw up a lot in the classroom and... um... I think the shock's mostly worn off... I'm just trying to think of how this could possibly have happened. I didn't have anything to do with it, honest. I don't even know what happened. I just did what I usually do...you know, the usual illusion stuff..."
Shut up, Ian. You're rambling again.

Okay. More of a shock than he'd thought, then, or it was a side effect of the process. "Do you think you should go talk to the nurse?"

Ian shook his head. "Uh... no... not right now. This is more important, I think. Figuring out how this all happened. I can go see Miss. Evans-Barros later..."

"Figuring this out is not more important than your health." Smoke stood back up. "And I'm not sure there's anything we can do sitting here, anyway; I'd like to go look at the place where it happened. I promise that if I need you for anything, or figure out anything for sure, I'll say something."
"So unless you have something else you want to tell me..."

Ian shook his head. "No, no. Nothing else. I just... um... I think I'll take a walk. Clear my head. Somewhere where... uh... Jonathan isn't..." He stood and headed slowly over to the door. "Thank you for... um... thanks... uh... I'm going to go now..." He headed out of the headmistress's office, shutting the door slowly behind him, and heading off down the hall.
More than anything, he wanted to be away. Away from the accident, away from Jonathan, and most of all, away from himself.
