Kemekin ran the towel roughly through his hair and sighed. He would think twice before mouthing off in wellness class again. Running laps out in the last of the autumn heat was not fun. Neither was using the locker room showers-- there was little median between freezing cold and scalding hot water.
He shoved his gym clothes unceremoniously into a bag and made a mental note to run laundry today.

Jaebi huffed once, his patience running thin. He sat a few rows up the bleachers nearest the entrance to the male locker room, leaning against the row behind him, his elbows propped up with his forearms left to dangle past his shoulders. He had finished his laps and showered long before Kemekin had even begun to trudge back up to the gym from the track.
Jaebi rolled his head back and stared at the ceiling. There were exactly five kickballs stuck in the rafters-- as well as a volleyball, two basketballs, and a sneaker that may have been a brighter shade of red at one point in time. There were also several dozen writing utensils and [not surprisingly] a shuriken or two lodged in the ceiling itself. Someone either had very bad aim or a very good arm.

Kemekin emerged from the locker rooms and slung his bag over one shoulder. He spotted Jaebi and approached him on quiet feet, sneaking up the few rows of bleachers to lean in on the boy. He opened his mouth and breathed in to yell a greeting.

"Don't you dare," Jaebi grumbled, slowly bringing his head back to an upright position. He was less than suprised to find Kemekin so close to him-- he had more or less been able to hear the entirety of his classmate's approach. He moved one hand only enough to point at Kemekin. His face bearing a bored, mildly sleepy expression, he added, "You got me into trouble, man; wait and see-- I'll get you back for this." The smallest of smirks shadowed the corner of his mouth, and his eyebrows rose as he fought back a full grin.

"How?" Kemekin's expression was taunting. He crossed his arms and straightened, leaning back slightly at the waist. "Prank me? You don't talk to people, Jae."
Point taken, though, he added to himself. It was his fault that Jaebi had been made to run laps after class with him... But the mage felt that the issue was invalid, as Jaebi had finished the prescribed dozen laps in about a third of the time it had taken Kemekin.
"Why did you wait, if you're only gonna harp at me?"

"I. Don't. Know..." Jaebi conceded in a huff. "I don't have anywhere else to be right now, I guess." He crossed his arms and stood, striding down the rows of bleachers to the gym floor. He tilted his head over his shoulder to watch Kemekin. "Are you coming?"

Kemekin smirked. "Dude, I'm thinking I need to introduce you to people," he teased, starting a list of names. "Lessee... there's Romulus and Remus-- they're cool, you'd like them-- and then... Well, you've yet to talk to Nina. Dubhiarr's her roommate-- she doesn't enjoy my presence... like, at all. Then there's Haneul-- that big monk guy, the one with the sort of mohawk-- Oh, and Ariel! We've got classes with her..."

Jaebi rolled his eyes. "Hey, Keme-- you know that talking thing you do? You should give it a rest every once in a while." He grinned, a look that was suddenly shot through with a spasm of pain. Doubling over, Jaebi wrapped his arms around his middle in an effort to hold himself together-- it seemed like his ribs were being pulled outward, almost as if they were trying to bloom.
Jaebi realized too late what was happening. He felt his lungs expanding, his spine lengthening-- falling to all fours, his back arched and his muscles reconfigured themselves as fur sprouted all over his body and his clothes began to tear against the violent fluctuations in the boy's form.
He never had learned to properly control a transformation.

Kemekin winced and shrank down onto the bleachers, equal parts fascinated and shocked by what he was witnessing. He had seen werewolf transformations-- but this looked painful. There was no explosion of fur and then -boom!- wolf. Even from several yards away Kemekin could see the muscles writhing and twisting beneath Jaebi's skin...
Kemekin waited until the convulsions stopped to even try to find his voice.
"H-hey," he stammered. "Hey, Jaebi, are you alright?" He pulled himself down over the next row of bleachers, tentatively approaching this new, feline version of Jaebi. There were were-cats? He passed over another row of bleachers, now just out of arm's reach.

Jaebi shivered as one last spasm ran along his spine. His tail twitched and his ears perked; he span to face Kemekin, for a moment not recognizing him through this once-familiar visual capacity.
Out, he wanted out. Outside-- the fresh air, the open space! It felt inexplicably wrong indoors, in this room; he flexed his forepaws, finding the texture horrendous beneath his claws. Out, he wanted out.
He took a step back from Kemekin, his eyes darting from one exit to the other. One led outside, the other to the greater school. In his panicked state, he could not remember which was which.
A hiss rose in his throat.

Aramis came in, looking for Kemekin. The door slammed open, and he stopped in shock, letting it slam shut behind him. Oh crap. Bad timing. There... there was a CHEETAH in the gym!!!
"Kemekin, what did you do THIS TIME?!"

Kemekin's head shot up at the sound of the door. "What the HELL, Aramis!" he yelled, temporarily distracted. "How could I ha---"
And then he remembered.
His gaze snapped back to Jaebi. "You stay put," he said tentatively, holding one palm out to the feline.

Jaebi watched Kemekin intently-- no, he would not stay put. He had seen what lay beyond the door behind Aramis. That meant the other door was his ticket to freedom.
Putting on a bolt of speed that had him going from zero to sixty in the blink of an eye, Jaebi rocketed toward the opposite door and slammed against it in an attempt to open the damned thing. All he wanted was out-- he didn't care how he got there.

Aramis yelped, "WHOA, HEY!"
He ran forward, wondering what had happened. There was a FREAKING CHEETAH IN THE GYM! He took a quick breath, trying to calm down. Okay... How to calm down a big cat... He reached out magically, trying to think of the right chemical or whatever it was he could do to calm it down. He didn't actually touch the animal, knowing it had to be a student. Otherwise it wouldn't be in the gym. See? Logical explanation. Now...
"Kemekin... please tell me what is going on here?" he said calmly.

Kemekin flinched at the sound of the impact. "Jaebi!" he yelled as Aramis came forward. "Stop that!"
He touseled his hair in frustration and said to his roommate, "Well, apparently Jaebi isn't a werewolf.... he's a were-.....this...thing...." Kemekin inched forward and lightly pushed on the door handle, not enough force to open the door but enough for it to give should Jaebi decide to ram it again. Honestly, Kemekin had no idea how his friend would react to anything in this new state.

Aramis nodded slowly, watching...Jaebi? carefully. Right, one of the freshmen.
"I see that. Since I don't think it is POSSIBLE to mistake a cheetah as a wolf," he said softly, his voice tightly controlled. "Do you know what made him transform? He doesn't seem to be thinking clearly, so I want to make sure we don't trigger another panic of some sort."

Kemekin shrugged. "I was just... talking about introducing him to people. Could he have gotten nervous?" Then in an answer to his own question, "Nah, he's not that shy..."
The mage racked his brain and came up with nothing. "What did you do to yourself?" he half-growled at Jaebi, frowning.
