Kemekin looked up at the call and froze in his tracks, blue eyes wide.
Sterling?
He took a few halting steps forward. "Dude."

Sterling grinned and gave the boy a salute. "You get over here, kid," he ordered jovially, flicking his hair out of his face.

Kemekin opened and closed his mouth several times in a futile attempt at coherent words.
"What--"
Kemekin walked forward, one eyebrow arching ever higher as he approached his friend, stopping just short of the door to his and Aramis' room.
"What are you doing here, man?" he finally managed, laughing. Sterling. At Dunehelden. Holy shit.

Sterling tipped his head slightly to one side and let his grin broaden. When Kemekin came level with him, Sterling stepped forward and sent his fist in a solid jab into Kemekin's stomach.
"That," he said matter-of-factly, straightening, running his hair out of his face, "was for ruining my school year." Then he threw one arm about Kemekin's shoulders and pulled the lad into a brief, firm hug. His tone brightened. "I missed you, twerp."

Kemekin oof!ed at the blow to his gut. He started to double over, but was straightened a bit by Sterling's hug.
"Mssdya too," he grunted, his voice muffled by Sterling's shoulder.

Sterling mussed Kemekin's hair with one hand and pushed him back out to arm's length to appraise him. He gave him a quick once-over before nodding like the satisfied owner of a new car.
"You've gotten a bit taller," he commented. "Only like an inch, though. And what are these?" He gave the base of the boy's neck a mild slap, indicating (in the forceful kind of affection seen between rowdy teenage boys) two small areas of discoloration on the boy's skin. Sterling hooked his finger into the boy's collar and pulled it sideways a bit to get a better look at the one closer to Kemekin's collar bone.
"It looks like," he teased, "I've missed quite a bit. Try to convince me that those are just bruises. Because they're totally not."
