This semester, foreign languages had been scheduled in the same slot right after lunch. For most people, this meant a semester of hurried stuffing and mealtime verb conjugation, but for Bird, it meant an excuse to hide in an empty classroom and eat without having to deal with the huge crowd of talking food, which sounded like almost as good of an idea as not taking fucking classes after he'd finished high school in the first place.
A little choice was better than none.
The tiny young man sat on the back of a chair in the back of the room and bolted down his thermos of blood before it got cold.

Romi walked into the classroom early, savoring the lingering taste of spices on her lips. She liked having french class right after lunch-- it gave her time to relax and listen to the professor talk. She loved the french language. It rolled across the tongue like a good gumbo.
She noticed the student sitting at the back and smiled. She recognized him-- they were in the same grade level. She had never quite gotten around to learning his name, though.
"Hey there," she greeted softly, her thick Louisiana drawl making her words seem more like a song than speech.

"Mmg," Bird replied. He dropped down from the chair and crouched beside his backpack, finishing his drink. He replaced the lid and stuffed it back in his backpack, licking his lips, then looked back up at Romi. He'd seen her before, in... English? Her accent was distinctive.
He stood up again and looked her over awkwardly; he wasn't sure if he should say something or not. She exuded 'out of your league', but... oh who the hell cared. He flomped down in his seat.
"Hey," he replied sullenly.

Romi arched one eyebrow and took a seat in the middle row, but on the far side, closer to the window. The light glinted off her curls. "Aw, c'mon man. Give me happy. Please?"
It occurred to her now that she had more than one class with this young man. Probably Eng Lit or something of the sort. One or two students were filing in, but Romi ignored them. "You always spend lunch time in here? I never see you in the mess hall."

Bird blinked; he sat up straight in his chair and stuck one of his feet through the bars of the chair in front of him.
"Uh. Yeah." His voice wasn't quite happy, but it was lighter. "Don't like to be around people when I'm hungry." He tried to smile, but it came out as kind of a fanged smirk.

Romi grinned. The expression made her lightly-colored eyes crinkle at the corners and sparkle charmingly. "Well, did you enjoy your lunch?" she asked, eyeing the bulge in his backpack that indicated the thermos he had just put in there.

He couldn't help but grin back at her, the tip of his tongue poking out from between his teeth.
"Eh... yeah. Did you? You're Romi, right? Rosemary?"

Post by Blaise Park on Apr 5, 2010 0:17:43 GMT -5
Blaise strolled into the classroom after he finished eating lunch, his bag draped over one shoulder. He didn't exactly need to take French 101. If he had wanted, Blaise could have placement-tested into one of the advanced classes; French was his first language, after all. Blaise would be able to pass this class with his eyes closed.
Blaise slipped into a chair a few rows away from the front, taking in the scents around him. The faint scent of spices lingered in the air, and the dusty smell of chalk swirled at the front of the room. The emotions in the room smelled mild, pleasant. Everything about the school smell musty, like old library books, though he was noticing that less and less the longer he was here.
He took out a book and opened it to about halfway through, sliding the bookmark into his hand. Every so often he glanced up from the book, watching the room.

Kate checked the number of the classroom against the note in her hand. She could've sworn the layout had changed since before Christmas, but it was probably just the fact that they all looked the same. She found a seat in the middle by the door and dumped her shoulderbag down beside it, then sat down, crossed her legs, and took out a book to read until the teacher got in.

Rhys followed Kate in and glared; she had to take a seat near other people, didn't she. Well, he wasn't about to get dragged in here and then not know anybody, or let her sit there reading or playing with something while he had to be social.
...He wasn't really sure what he wanted, but that wasn't really important.
He took the seat in front of her, two away from a boy he didn't know. A couple of university students were already chatting on the other side of the room. He sighed and propped his head up on his elbow, glancing at the other boy. He was probably another introvert. Damnit.

Blaise glanced up at the two newest additions to the classroom. He leaned back in his chair and crossed his legs primly, watching the boy near him. He and the girl with him looked a bit closer in age to Blaise than the others in the class; the two on the other side of the room looked a bit older. They didn't act like a boyfriend and girlfriend, and they looked just a bit similar. They might have been related.
Neither of them were all that attractive. The girl was plain and a bit on the heavy side, not remotely his type. The boy was, if not good looking, at least interesting to look at, with long curly hair and pale skin. With a little more work, he might have looked quite nice. A tan would have done him a world of good.
The boy seemed shy, but that didn't seem to stop him from looking. Blaise gave him a smile, more cocky than friendly, waiting to see if the boy would introduce himself.

Rhys noticed movement and glanced back over at the other boy for a second, then away realizing that was kind of rude, then back again as he realized the guy was smiling at him. It took him a second to process that, but then he smiled back. He hated not knowing anyone here other than his stepsiblings, even though there was something about this guy that set his nerves on edge.
"Hey. I'm Rhys; mind if I ask what you're reading?" His voice came out a little squeaky and shaky, but confident.

Blaise could smell the nervousness coming off of the boy. He lifted the book slightly so that Rhys could see the cover. "It's The Picture of Dorian Gray." His voice held the hint of an French accent, though his pronunciation was otherwise flawless. He smirked, laying the book back on his desk. "I'm Blaise Park. I just transferred in this semester."
Blaise was still working on forming his opinions of the school. He's was rather iffy so far -- the building was exquisite, and being able to use his powers as he wished was indescribably wonderful, but it was all a bit overwhelming, and as of yet, he didn't really know anyone.

"You're French? Huh." Rhys knew that book; it had been one of the options in English at his last school, and he'd really regretted going for The Bell Jar instead. He was silent for a moment; there might not be anything here, he thought, enough to make a conversation about.
"Nice to meet you," he finally replied in a flat tone. "Hope you like it here."

"Romi's fine, man," Romi said, chuckling a bit. The noise sounded a bit like a coo. She paused for a moment, trying to remember the young man's name. "Gah. I remember your last name. I do. It's... Ruark? I like it-- it's real pretty." She grinned.

Bird's grin fell into something between a smile and a glare, and he looked her straight in the eye. "Okay. What's the catch?" he half-joked. "Are you always this upbeat?"

Romi kept her grin and stuck her tongue playfully out between her teeth. "If I'm awake, I'm happy," she said, before adding teasingly, "Are you always this suspicious?"

Jacqueline stepped briskly into the classroom and headed toward her desk, looking out at the chattering students. There were a couple of minutes left before class was due to start; she sat down and arranged her lecture notes, glancing toward the door every so often to see if anyone else was going to attend.

"Usually-" his train of thought was cut off when he saw the teacher actually enter. He smirked at Romi, then, realizing she wasn't going to start class immediately, continued.
"And it's Bird. Bird Ruark. Thanks."

Stephen jogged down the hallway to his next class, slipping into the room with one minute to spare. Not seeing anyone he knew, he took a seat in the middle of the second row and sat with his arms crossed on top of his binder, glancing idly around at the others in the room with his good eye. He shivered a little; it was chilly in here.

Jacqueline looked up as the last minute before class ticked by, then got up and closed the door. Returning to her desk again, she smiled out at her students.
"Bonjour," she greeted them brightly. "Je m'appelle Professeur Gaudreau." She paused for a moment before switching to English. "I am taking over this course from Professor Williams. You may call me 'Professor' or 'Madamoiselle'.
"Your next assignment will be a small group project, as you will find on page two of your syllabus. You will write a short skit to be performed next class, not more than five minutes long, en français." She looked around the room, doing a quick headcount. "Groups of three would be best, I think. Feel free to choose your own partners. You may begin."
She sat quietly, watching the students as they got into groups, and waiting for any to call on her for help.

Romi flipped to the second page of her syllabus, reading over the guidelines for the project. Groups of three?
She looked up at Bird and smiled.

With only six classmates, that didn't leave them with very many options. He looked over at Rhys and sighed. "So do you and your..." He glanced over at the girl. "...girlfriend want to form a group?"

Bird grinned, stood up in his seat with his book under his arm, and hopped in one light-footed bound over into the seat beside Romi.
"I'm okay with the writing thing, but I really hope one of us can make it entertaining."
