Jaymie sauntered down the hallway towards the dorms with the satisfied feeling of a day of great accomplishment. He'd been hanging out in the art classroom all day, sketching things, getting a better sense of how lines worked, and coming up with ideas; his charcoal-covered fingers (as well as a smudge on his face) and notebook crammed full of stuff attested to how much fun he'd had.
And to top it off, was that Hitomi walking down the hall? He waved.

Hitomi's gaze shot up, and she sighed. She'd never been so thankful to see someone who wasn't family in her life, and that was saying something. She raced up to her boyfriend and nearly strangled him with a hug.
"Oh, god, this week has been awful," she whimpered. "Alex and Hitoshi broke up, and Hitoshi's psychotic and Alex is acting like nothing is wrong and midterms are in a few weeks and I have no idea what's going on in Geometry and--" Hitomi slowly ran out of steam, blinking up at Jaymie. "And... Jaymie, you have something on your face."

"Oof!" Jaymie tried to hug her back without dropping anything, listening to the stream of girltalking he was suddenly faced with. He gave Hitomi a sympathetic but confused look.
"Your brother broke up with his boyfriend? Weren't they like-" He blinked and touched his face with his free hand, smudging it worse. "I do? Oh, crap, it's not pesto from lunch, is it? That was hours ago."

"No, Alex broke up with him, and I think it's dirt or something." Hitomi rubbed it with her sleeve, managing to get some of it off but mostly just making her sleeve dirty. "I don't even know exactly what happened except that Alex doesn't think it's going to work out because Hitoshi's his first boyfriend and... I think I just need a break from all of this, honestly."
Hitomi shifted to Jaymie's side, wrapping her arms around his waist. "So how has your day been?" she asked. "I really need a distraction before I go ballistic."

"Ngaaah." Jaymie tugged at Hitomi's dirty sleeve with a pained look on his face, managing to make it worse before he realized how dirty his hands were. "Gah! Charcoal. Great. I need to wash my hands. Why are art supplies always so messy?"
He smiled and draped an arm around her, trying not to touch her with his hand. "It's been pretty good. Productive. Uh... let's see, distraction..." He looked up at the ceiling in thought, beginning to head towards his dorm again. He could think of plenty of distractions, starting with asking her to try one of his skirt designs and quickly heading off into other places, but he figured she was talking about fun-social distractions, not the other kind. "We could take a walk in the courtyard? It's a remarkably nice day out, for the Land of Eternal Twilight."

Hitomi smiled. "That sounds like a wonderful idea. We can grab some sandwiches or something out of the kitchen, and you could wash the charcoal off your hands."
Hitomi brushed her hands together in attempt to get rid of the little bit of charcoal she'd smeared on her hands. "It's been a long time since I've had a normal day."

"But normal days are so boring." Jaymie grinned at her. "Have great days, astounding days, days where you pluck the sun out of the sky and use it to pull your chariot through the sky, or however that myth goes. They're much better, really." He mimed plucking one of the magical lights out of the corridor and handing it to her.
"Or, sandwiches. I'm feeling up for some- not tuna salad-" He glared for a brief moment, then sighed dramatically. "-Tuna salad. Maybe stretch my wings a little, I'm going nuts cooped up in here. How many weeks until spring break again?"

Hitomi laughed. "I swear I've heard that before. Have you been listening to my music?"
Hitomi hmmed to herself. "Tuna salad for you and Nutella and banana for me, then. We can grab some fruit and chips, too... I think we've got about three weeks, give or take." She sighed. "Hitoshi and Alex had better work something out before the field trip because they signed up to room together, and there's no way the headmaster will let them change it, especially not this late."

"What, you have songs about fish? Not knowingly," he teased.
Jaymie winced at that. "And that is why dating roommates is not the best idea. Though from what you're saying, it doesn't sound like it'd be better if they lived in entirely different states."
"Hmm, you're making me want to be nosy... nosy in ways that it might be cleaner to try making a mobile out of rusty razor blades."

Hitomi paused and raised an eyebrow at her boyfriend. "And just what are you planning on doing?" she asked. "No offense, but Hitoshi's not fond of you on principle."

Jaymie feigned innocence. "I meant about you... though if you want some sort of elaborate plan concocted to get your brother and his boyfriend back together that will go hilariously wrong but inevitably end in happiness and romance, I can probably whip something up."
"Razor blades," he continued, waggling his fingers.

"Thanks for the offer, but I don't think Hitoshi is exactly the romantic comedy type," she said. "Hitoshi seems more the 'let the girl get away and go after the hot guy who's going to be a jerk to her only to win her back at the last second in a big dramatic way' type. Except, you know, the girl is Alex."
She smirked. "And I'm not sure I would trust you with razor blades. Why would you try to build a mobile from them?"

"Ooh, yeah, nerd vengeance. Those are always fun."
"Because..." Jaymie looked up at the ceiling. "I totally didn't do that in eighth grade... No. Seriously, though, would I wake up tomorrow morning chained to a flagpole if I asked you about, uh, your previous relationships?"

"Well, there isn't really all that much to tell," she said carefully. "I had a few short-lived relationships in middle school that didn't really last more than a few weeks, and I've had a couple of more serious relationships in high school that didn't really last more than a few months. I've only really had a couple of boyfriends before you, at least if you're not counting middle school." She shrugged. "I don't really count them."
She peered up at Jaymie through her lashes. "And what about you?" she teased. "I'm sure that you have something more interesting than me, like one of Aura's friends mistaking you for a girl or something."

"No-o, sadly I've never been mistaken for a lesbian," Jaymie replied drily. "Let's see- the one in elementary school, I presume, doesn't count. Middle school..." He shook his head.
"Not really. I had a girlfriend in freshman year who moved, then I grew a spine, told people I wasn't gay in certain terms, and ended up with a succession of..." He tried to find a non-derogatory way of putting it. "...girls that pretty much wanted to date someone pretty and non-threatening."
"Which, by the way, if you haven't figured it out- I am not non-threatening." He smirked down at her. "And I'm hoping for more of a challenge myself."
