The faculty lounge was surprisingly empty for a Friday evening. Though that was probably because of the Greece trip, for which vacationers were scheduled to leave the next morning. Ellie had packed the day before, however, and had run out of things to do.
Ellie was fine with sitting alone, though, perched cross-legged in one of the high wooden chairs set around a little table closer to one side of the room-- she pulled out a deck of cards, shuffled them, cut the deck, shuffled again, and set up a solitaire game.

Hoshi crept silently behind Ellie, extending his magic just enough to halt any sounds he might have otherwise made. Over her shoulder, he could see the beginnings of a solitaire game. Like Ellie, Hoshi had already finished his packing. And he had slept through most of the day so that he could be sure to be awake when the bus left.
Hoshi slipped his hands over her eyes and leaned in to whisper in her ear, "Guess who?"

Ellie paused, just about to lay down the six of spades. She smiled and inclined her head towards Hoshi's voice.
"You're Rhythan, obviously," she teased.

"Alas! The fair maiden has discovered my secret," Hoshi sighed dramatically, doing his best Rhythan impersonation. He removed his hands from her eyes and grinned.

Ellie laughed aloud. "You've got your packing done early, I take it?" She turned her head to smile at Hoshi and tapped the card she was still holding on the table. "You look like you've just woken up."
Not that she was complaining. The mildly disheveled look was one Hoshi wore well.

"Did it last night, or this morning, or whatever time before dawn is considered." Hoshi pecked her on the cheek. "I decided to take a long nap in the evening so I could stay up until the bus leaves."
Hoshi wrapped his arms around Ellie's shoulders, watching her game. "You could move that queen onto the king," he suggested. "That would free up the three so you could add it to the spades at the top. And if that turns out to be a bad move, you could always just press the undo button. Or...whatever it is you do when you're playing with a deck."

Ellie chuckled. "Sorry, no undo button." She looked at the game for a moment. She had just moved a five, leaving a face-down card.
"Ah. I could do that, but--" she flipped the card over. Queen of clubs. She put that queen on the King Hoshi had pointed out, and flipped the card that that had uncovered. Another red King. Ellie moved the Queen of spades, following through with the rest of Hoshi's suggestions afterwards.
"See? No undo needed."
It was a fast game-- Ellie worked through the cards at a pace one wouldn't normally use for Solitaire. She found another Ace, which gave her the third, and allowed her to move the Two of hearts that had been keeping her from getting to the last Ace. From there, it was only a matter of a minute or so for Ellie to run all the cards up to their respective suites.
Ellie brought the cards back into a single deck and shuffled. "Want to play? You can pick the game-- I bet I can beat you."

"Hm..." Hoshi thought for a moment. "Why don't you deal for Texas Hold 'Em?"
He stepped around the table and took a seat across from her. Hoshi was fairly decent at cards, though it had been a while since he'd played anything other than Blackjack or Go Fish. And Hoshi wasn't dumb enough to think Ellie wouldn't know a little about cards herself.
"So what are the stakes?" he asked, grinning.

Ellie continued to shuffle the deck as she considered a bet. Several tricks were thrown into the shuffling, seemingly in a nonchalant manner, though if Ellie were called out for showing off she wouldn't deny it.
"Hmm..." Ellie tapped the deck against the table to even it, then dealt two cards to Hoshi and two to herself. "First night we're in Greece-- loser buys dinner for two. Raising the bet will raise the type of dinner." She set the deck aside and smiled. "I'll start by betting a pizza. Will you raise?"

"I'll see your pizza and raise you a romantic homemade dinner." He grinned. "In my case, that means I'm bribing someone to make us dinner."
Hoshi had no delusions about his cooking prowess. But he had a feeling he could coax Diana into making them a nice meal, if he asked her nicely.

Ellie nodded and, with the first betting round concluded (it was odd, playing this game with just two people) dealt three cards and set them face-up on the table between them. Five of diamonds, Queen of clubs, Ace of hearts. With the community cards out, new betting could begin.
"Candelit," she said, adding to Hoshi's bet. She grinned. "Raise?"

"I see your candlelit dinner and raise you dinner and a movie," he said, peering over the community cards. There wasn't much he could do with those, but there were still two more. And he was confident.

Ellie set out another community card. Jack of clubs.
Ellie arched an eyebrow. There was potential there. But then again, she didn't know what her two facedown cards were.
"I'll hold."

"Hm..." There were two clubs, a jack and a queen. That was a good sign. "I'll raise you dancing under the stars." He grinned.

Ellie blushed, turning a brilliant shade of pink. She covered her face and took a moment to collect herself, though the smile that had plastered itself on her face would not go away. Ellie coughed, tried and failed once again to fight her smile, and laid down the River card.
Ace of clubs.
Well, damn.
The betting done (dammit Hoshi that was adorable), Ellie took up her two facedown cards and compared them to the five community cards. She had two fives. The best she could manage was a Full House, though that wasn't horrible. Ellie put her cards on the table on her side of the board (the play area and "river" formed by the community cards), and announced her hand.
Three fives, two aces. "Full House."

Hoshi bit back a laugh at just how cute Ellie was when she blushed like that. It was absolutely endearing.
When the Ace of Clubs was down, Hoshi picked up his cards. Ace, Queen, and Jack of Clubs in the community cards. King and Ten of Clubs in his cards.
"Royal Flush," he announced, placing his cards on the table. Hoshi grinned like the Cheshire Cat.

That had come out of nowhere. Ellie facepalmed and looked at Hoshi through her fingers. She couldn't do anything bit smile, though-- not with Hoshi grinning like that. A royal flush, though...
Oh well. Besides, it was not a bet she was sore about losing.
"Dinner and a movie on me it is, then," she said. Tucking her hair behind her ears, she added, "And a dance under the stars." Repeating it made her cheeks warm again.

"It sounds like a date, then," Hoshi replied, smirking slightly. He wondered how long it would take before that stopped making Ellie blush like a schoolgirl.
He looked thoughtfully at the cards, an idea slowly forming. Hoshi wasn't bad at cards per se, but he liked to quit while he was ahead, and he had a much more interesting game in mind.
"Have you ever played 'Never have I ever'?" he asked mischievously, leaning over the table.

Up went one of Ellie's eyebrows. She gathered the cards into a neat deck and set them aside. Hoshi never stopped charming her-- Ellie had to wonder if it was on purpose one hundred percent of the time.
"Not since high school," she admitted, a chuckle coloring her voice. She gave a quirky grin. "I'm sure I remember." She held out both of her hands and wiggled her fingers at Hoshi.

"Loser has to oversee a training session from the Thundercats," he announced, holding up his fingers. "You ready? I'll even let you start."

Ellie snorted. Hoshi had most definitely gotten that title for the Bolin-Kazari-Jaebi trio from Kemekin.
"Alright." She smirked. "Never have I ever thrown my alarm clock out the nearest window."
She had tried, once, but there had been a screen over her window at the time. Shame.

Hoshi smirked. "I can't say that I've done that, at least not that I can remember," he replied.
"Now let me think, what do I want to know about you..." he mused, tapping one finger against his chin. He felt very much like a college student again... Though the game was admittedly much different when he was sober. He was fairly certain the last time he played was several years ago with Smoke.
"Never have I ever kissed someone of the same gender," he announced.

Ellie arched an eyebrow, smiled mischievously, and slowly curled one of her thumbs in toward her palm. That was one point down.
"Oh, we're playing like that, are we?" She studied Hoshi for a minute, then launched her attack.
"Never have I ever set my own house on fire, accidentally or otherwise."

"You--" Hoshi blinked, tucking his pinky down against his palm. He hadn't really been expecting Ellie to have done that. He shook his head slightly.
"So when was this?" he teased, unable to keep himself from smirking. "Was this one of those 'someone dared me in college' things, or is it someone I know?"

"Josephine O'Rory of South Carolina," she said by means of explanation. "Bible camp, tenth grade. We were the only brunettes in the Sioux bunk." Her grin never faltered. "I'll leave the rest to your imagination."
"How'd you go about with that particular escapade?" she asked, chuckling, after Hoshi lost his point.
