"I wouldn't mind looking at one of the CD stores, or maybe grabbing some baklava at one of those little stands. Then if you want, we could poke around some of the little shops downstairs."
She flipped out her phone and checked the time. Not quite lunch time yet; they had about two hours still. "I'll text Hitoshi and Alex and see if they feel like grabbing some lunch with us, kay?"
She sent a quick text to Alex to see if he wanted to drag Hitoshi to a little pasta place she had seen near the hotel, since she figured Alex would have a better chance of convincing Hitoshi than she would.
She was ridiculously happy that morning when she saw Hitoshi and Alex actually spending time together, though she supposed she shouldn't read too much into it. As much as she wanted them back together, Alex was still technically going out with Blaise--as much as she hated it. While she wanted them back together for her brother's sake, there was a part of her that really just wanted Alex to be dating someone other than Blaise.

Jaymie came out and tossed the trunks on the rack, walking over to grab another one.
"What is baklava? Are those those kebab things? Mm. I wouldn't mind food, and you could probably find some kind of obscure Greek hipster stuff at a CD place..."
Eventually, Jaymie found a pair that fit. "I think I'll just follow you around for a while." He smiled warmly at Hitomi.

"You've never had baklava?" Hitomi gave him a catlike grin. "Oh, this is going to be fun. Come on, I'm going to teach you about food from the Old Country." Hitomi latched onto her boyfriends arm and started dragging him down toward the pastry carts.
Of course, Hitomi's grandmother was from the Ukraine, so she couldn't really call Greece "the Old Country". But her grandmother made some badass baklava, which was close enough for her.

"I'm mostly a hamburgers and pizza kind of guy, but I guess I'm open?" Jaymie laughed and let himself be dragged.

When the cart was within walking distance, Hitomi stopped in place and shoved all of her bags into his arms. She leveled her gaze with him, expression stern. "Now, close your eyes and no peaking, okay?" She grinned at that, then turned on her heal and marched off toward the dessert cart.
They had several different kinds of pastries, including some sort of Greek wedding cake and something that looked like baklava but with nuts, and some things that looked like they were covered in chocolate, all in little bite-sized servings. For what she thought came out to roughly twenty dollars she could get a box of ten, or three dollars each if she bought them individually. She eventually decided to get a box of half-baklava, half one of everything else. She would make Alex help her finish them so that at least if she was getting fat, she wasn't doing it alone.
She returned to Jaymie, the box in hand, beaming. "Remember, no peaking," she warned, finding one of the pieces of baklava and raising the honey-covered pastry to his mouth. "Open up. I've got a surprise for you."

"Oh hell." Jaymie wasn't sure whether to be excited or frightened. At least he could tell there were pastries involved, instead of something weirder, or spiced lamb that he thought sounded great but the thing in his head thought was a crime against nature. He closed his eyes.
When she finally came back, he was just hoping his girlfriend wasn't much more evil than he expected she was. Proof that she was related to that Hitoshi made him feel kind of strange...
Still, he opened his mouth. "Ahh."

Hitomi grinned and shoved the little square pastry into his mouth. "So, what do you think?" She smirked. "You can open your eyes now, by the way."
Her fingers were sticky with honey from just barely touching the piece she gave him, which was a good indication to Hitomi that it was good, or at least fresh-made and slathered in honey, which was close enough for her. Hitomi did her best to suck the honey from her fingers, though they were still a bit sticky when she was done.
She took out another piece of baklava for herself, then carefully put the box in the bottom of her shopping bag. "I have a whole box of them. I think I'm going to have Alex or Ariel help me eat them to make sure I don't eat them all in one sitting." She looked back up at him and grinned.

"Mmf!" he said, and started chewing. Jaymie opened his eyes and closed them again.
"You have good taste." He licked a bit of honey off his lips when he was done. "Think I could have another one later? I don't want to spoil lunch."

She beamed. "I told you you'd like it. I'll set aside a few for you and give them to you when we get back to the hotel."
She shuffled their bags around so that she was carrying some of them to give Jaymie a free hand, then maneuvered herself under his free arm and wrapped one arm around his middle. "I want to check out what they have in the way of CDs at that little store. Then we can go eat lunch with Hitoshi and Alex."

Jaymie side-hugged Hitomi. "Sounds great. And if I find something I want to get, I'll try not to remove any more of your faith in humanity by playing it all night."

Hitomi hadn't heard much back from Hitoshi or Alex apart from sure, they'd be willing to meet for lunch, and a part of her hoped that Hitoshi wasn't too upset about that little picture incident. She'd have to ask Alex later.
Hitomi shoved her shopping bags under the table and sat poised in the chair at the restaurant, taking in the surroundings. The place advertised as an Italian restaurant, though from looking at the menu it was more of an Italian-Greek fusion. Thankfully the menu was in both English and Greek, and the waitress would probably be fine with her just pointing to what she wanted.
The actual restaurant was small and homey-looking, with warm lighting and little decorations that made her think it might have been owned by someone's grandmother. There was instrumental music playing in the background, something that sounded like it was mainly piano, and the walls were covered in interesting artwork.
Hitoshi had said he was on his way a while ago, which meant that they were either almost there or lost somewhere on the other side of the city. She hoped they'd arrive soon, though, since she hadn't eaten all day and she wasn't sure the waitress understood her when she tried to explain why they weren't getting anything but drinks right now.
She glanced at her phone for text messages and sighed. "Any day now, guys," she murmured.

Jaymie was leaning back in his chair and humming a tune, hands behind his head and feet hooked to something under the table. He was kind of annoyed that it was taking Hitoshi and Alex this long- he was hungry, and despite the two glasses of Coke he'd knocked down already, he was starting to feel the fact that he'd been up for over 24 hours.
If something had happened to them, though, he knew he'd feel like a dick for saying something, so he didn't.
"When do you want to go swimming tomorrow? I wouldn't mind sleeping in, but it's your party."

"I'd like to get there and swim for a while before it gets too hot, so I'd be good with leaving sometime during the morning. Probably no later than nine or ten. Eight if I could drag people up that early."
Hitomi stirred the ice around in her lemonade, watching the door idly. "I bet we could get most of the group to come, though I'd suggest trying to ditch Tristan. I don't think he'd do well at a beach party." She grinned. "Do you think we should eat there, or should we plan on a picnic or something?"

Jaymie stopped rocking; his hands fell into his lap.
"You'll willingly get up before nine in the morning. On vacation." He puffed his cheeks out. "That's... good to know. Do your cousin and uncle do that?"
"I like picnics. I also like overpriced greasy crap. I guess it depends what's on the beach?"

Alex sent Hitomi a text:
I think we're on the right street. What does the place look like?
Several seconds after that, there was another one with an image.

Hitomi smirked. "Hitoshi will wake up at six in the morning after staying up until two. Without an alarm clock, usually. Tristan's not quite as bad, but he doesn't normally sleep past ten or so. We're going to have to maneuver around him."
Hitomi's phone started chiming with the bridge to a peppy indie song, and she quickly dug it out of her bag and flipped open the keypad.
It's a little stone building right past the jewelry store. There's a big fountain across the street.
As soon as she sent the message she heard the chime again. She got a look at the picture, then clapped her hand over her mouth to hold back her laughter. Wow.
What happened?

Yes! We'll be there in a sec then. Sorry for keeping you, we were a long way away.
I don't actually know, but seems we're kinda putting the breakup angst on hold for the trip... don't say I sent that to you, okay? Alex turned to Hitoshi and grinned. "We are in the right place. It's the little stone one across from the fountain."

They hadn't really had that much trouble finding it. Hitoshi had managed to follow the map for the most part, but they had been a lot further away than Hitoshi had thought and it had taken them forever to make it on foot. At long last, though, they seemed to have found it.
"It looks nice," Hitoshi commented. It looked small from the outside, and the district itself was rather old, but it looked well kept, which was promising. He could faintly smell seafood and spices as they walked though the door, and Hitoshi was immediately reminded that he actually was rather hungry.
"Do you see them anywhere?" he asked.

Jaymie had been hungrily watching the door since Hitomi got texted, and when he saw the boys he whistled loudly.
"Yessss." He grinned and picked up the menu he'd been avoiding any glance at until now.

Hitoshi slipped through the restaurant toward his sister's table and took the seat across from her, leaving Alex to sit in front of Jaymie. He wasn't sure he wanted to have to stare at him for an hour after seeing him in swim trunks that looked several sized too small for him. At least seeing his sister in swimwear was just mildly annoying.
Hitoshi took out the menu and started looking through the menu. There was a lot with seafood, and it wasn't quite as expensive as most places he was used to. There were several pastas, plenty of shrimp and scallops, and even some calamari. Most of the meat on the menu was fish.
There were also several wines on the menu Hitoshi was interested in trying, and this was probably going to be the only chance he'd have to try any legally -- at least until his next time out of the country, which probably wouldn't be for a while.
He eventually decided on a shrimp dish seasoned with garlic and the house wine, and waited for the others to decide.

Alex sat beside Hitoshi, noticing his reticence to look in Jaymie's direction, and smirked a little to himself.
"As I said to Hitomi, sorry for taking so long. So what've you two been doing this morning?"
His stomach growled a little as he looked over the menu; he definitely wanted some kind of- oh god they have bruschetta. Well, that was decided for him; besides that, though, he wasn't sure whether calimari actually sounded good or if he just thought it did. There was also orzo, a few kinds of soup, some pesto-based things, and some ricotta-stuffed things that all sounded good.
"Mm. Hitoshi, should I get calimari?" he said, peering at the picture of the dish. "I've never actually had it. Or what do you think?"

Hitoshi peered back at the menu. "I like it personally, so I'd recommend at least trying it, but since you've never had calamari before, you might want to get it as an appetizer instead of a main dish just in case you don't like it."
Now that he thought about it, calamari did sound good, and there weren't very many opportunities at Dunehelden for squid, and he could have shrimp just about any time he wanted... He wondered if there were any sort of sampler he could get, since if he ordered everything he wanted to try off of the menu, he would probably end up paying a fortune and wasting a ridiculous amount of food.

Lasagna... there was no lasagna. Suck. He tried to push back the part of his mind that was screaming scallopsscallopsscallops and got severely disoriented for his troubles, nearly knocking his drink over.
"Nng." He picked himself back up off the table and glared at the menu. "I'm starving. Hey, there's this fried seafood and cheese appetizer thing, if you want the calimari off that."
Angel hair, large scallops, and spicy tomato sauce, that sounded good. He just wanted something with regular tomato sauce, goddamnit.

Hitomi gave Jaymie a sympathetic look. She was well used to this sort of thing happening when they ate--something about the crane spirit and Jaymie not being able to agree on what they wanted to eat. She tried not to be embarrassed. It wasn't like it was Jaymie's fault or anything.
She scrunched up her nose slightly as she looked over the menu. She was tempted to get the calamari since Alex's mentioned it, but there was something about homemade noodles and spices with fresh tomatoes and shrimp, and Hitomi wasn't sure she would have another chance to eat homemade noodles for a long time. Probably at least until Hitoshi decided to teach himself.
The pasta would be less filling, but if she got a small appetizer and the pasta, she could probably save room for dessert. And she had every intention of saving room for the gelato with mixed berries. The spanakopita looked good, and it had been a long time since she'd had any.
"Hey, will someone split an order of spanakopita with me? I don't think I can finish the whole thing and still eat my entree." Hitomi glanced from Alex to Hitoshi pleadingly. One of them had to be interested.

Jaymie stared into his menu and blushed a little. He was used to being more weird in public, if only because Aura usually egged him on... well, that, and that he usually had enough charm to carry it off and confidence not to give a damn.
It occured to him that he couldn't think of anyone other than Hitomi who had ever made him feel awkward, and she did it regularly. He wasn't sure how to feel about that.
