Stephen walked eagerly into the kitchens with a large can of Tim Hortons brand coffee grounds clutched firmly under one arm, making a beeline for the coffeemaker. The coffee was part of a care package he had just opened, courtesy of his parents; there was also a lot of chocolate, which he hadn't touched yet and wanted to savor, and a new book he'd been waiting to buy in paperback, which he planned to start as soon as he was done his homework that evening.
He put a fresh filter in the coffeemaker and spooned the aromatic grounds into it, making sure there was water in it as well before closing the lid, setting up the coffeepot and turning the machine on. He closed the can and stood back, leaning his elbow on the counter as he waited for the drink to brew. Ah, the taste of home.

The wonderful, delicious, amazing smell wafted through the corridors, and Angel followed in the shadows.
He slipped through the door, unseen, and crept up behind Stephen. Yes. Yes it was. Maybe there were even donuts, too.
"Where did you get that?" he said wonderingly.

Stephen frowned at the unfamiliar voice behind him, turning to see who it was. He winked his good eye curiously at the purple-haired student, grinning at his curiosity.
"My parents sent it to me," he answered. "It was part of a care package. You're welcome to have some once it's done brewing."

"Yesss." He walked over to the coffeemaker and leaned over, watching it brew from a few inches away. "Man, I don't even like coffee that much, but it's like I haven't even been here a year and I already miss things from home..."
He looked back at Stephen. "Are your parents like you?"

"Yes and no," Stephen replied, grinning as he watched the student eagerly watching the coffeepot fill up. "Mom's a vampire, Dad's a mortal. I'm technically a vampire, or whatever the proper name is for a half-breed. 'Dhampir' or something, I think. I call myself a halfpire."

Angel looked blank for a moment, then shook his head. "Huh. World keeps changing on you..."
He stood up and sniffed the air. "No donuts, but I smell donuts. The sparkly one must be keeping them somewhere, let's see." Angel began poking around in the kitchen, in cabinets and containers.

"Yeah, I'm a bit of an anomaly," Stephen nodded. "Sometimes I feel a bit like an outcast, you know? Not really part of either world. Both-but-neither. Didn't help that a lot of people in my hometown thought so, too, while I was growing up."
He watched the student rummage for a bit before doing some rummaging of his own, taking out two mugs and two teaspoons and putting them on the counter next to the gurgling coffeemaker, and then hunting around for cream and sugar.
"What about you?" he asked, finding the sugar and setting it down next to the mugs. "Are your parents like you?"

He snorted. "Fucking well hope not."
He opened one of the big industrial ovens and poked his head in; cackling echoed from inside. Angel grabbed a hotpad and dragged out a pan of jelly donuts that had been stuck in there to keep warm.

Stephen winked in confusion. "Ooo- kay then..." Probably good to drop the subject, then.
He moved to the fridge and poked his head inside, finding a little carton of half-and-half cream and bringing it out. After a second he leaned his head back into the fridge. Were those strawberries in there? Yes! Awesome. He brought those out too, putting them and the cream on the counter near the sugar.
Aha, the kid had found donuts. Stephen closed the fridge and wandered over in that direction, a grin spreading over his face. "Dang, those smell good."
