After the beach, they'd gone back to dry off and change. Jaymie had washed the seawater out of his hair and conditioned the hell back into it, finding a slight sunburn over his shoulders and back where he apparently hadn't been able to get to. The rest of him was still a shade darker than usual, and it made his hair look blonder by comparison.
He stood by Hitomi's door in one of his more normal outfits- blue trousers with white patches and embroidery, and a plain white button-up t-shirt with a daisy sewn onto the pocket- and waited for her to be done with whatever she was doing.

Hitomi rinsed the chlorine out of her hair and off of her skin. Unfortunately, she hadn't remembered to bring soap from Dunehelden (it was weird how much that felt like home now, given), which meant she had to use the tiny hotel bar soaps, leaving her smelling vaguely like someone's laundry. Still, clean was clean.
She worked a comb slowly through her long, wet hair, gently smoothing out the tangles. Wet and unstyled, it dipped all the way to her waist. No matter how much she fought with it, no matter how much hairspray she used, it never did seem to hold curls. She could start out the day with perfect spirals, and by noon it would be slightly wavy at best. She frowned and parted her hair at the crown, tossing a few stray strands back where they belonged.
After the long day at the beach, Hitomi hadn't bothered with anything terribly nice looking, and had instead opted for a plain white tank-top and a pair of comfortable shorts. She'd washed all of her make-up off in the shower, and at this hour, she wasn't up to putting it back on.
It was weird to see herself like that in the mirror. She almost looked like a different person. If she added a pair of glasses, people might mistake her for her brother.
Hitomi pulled her hair over one shoulder and pulled an elastic band over it, then went to open the door.
She smiled, though it didn't reach her eyes. "Hey, Jaymie," she said softly. "What's up?"

He smiled at Hitomi, slightly tense. "Hey. So, I took a look around the lobby and they've got, like, these cheese statues. It's cute, and I wondered... if you weren't busy, we could go down there and look around, maybe talk a little."
He shrugged. "No one else is down there, so..."

"Um. Yeah sure." She gave him a slight smile. "Just let me get my shoes, okay?"
Hitomi dug her flipflops out of a pile of her stuff and slid them on, then grabbed her wallet and room key and closed the door behind her. "Alright, lead the way."

The cheese statue thing was in a slightly chilled room in a hallway off the main lobby, pretty much empty. There were sculptures of local landscapes, modern art, and a few takeoffs of classical Greek sculpture, along with plenty of free samples. A small stack of brochures by the door noted details on each kind, with special emphasis on local varieties.
"So... if I asked you what was wrong, would you tell me?"

Hitomi pulled her arms tight around her and glanced over a few of the statues. She hadn't been expecting it to be quite so cold, or she would have worn a t-shirt, or at least longer shorts.
She didn't turn to look at Jaymie, and instead chose to glower at a large Edam statue of a Greek god that might have been Apollo.
"What makes you think there's something wrong?"

"Uhm," Jaymie began, hands stuck deep in his pockets. This was going to be hard. He'd expected that. "Let's see. You're tense. You're a little sluggish. You don't look directly at people. Your brother and one of your best friends just went through a really nasty breakup. And you do this, a lot, actually."
He sighed. "Look, I know I'm just your boyfriend, and you don't have to tell me everything. But I... care about you," he said slowly, "and I'd just kinda like to know if that's the way it is. And I really want to know... that you have somebody you are talking to."

Hitomi's arms tightened around her middle, and she leaned back against the wall. Something about the way the Apollo statue was looking at her seemed far too judgmental for her taste -- which was ridiculous, really, and just another thing to add to the "Reasons Why Hitomi is Completely Freaking Mental" list -- and instead chose to stare intently at the floor, which was covered in little crumbles of cheese.
"Believe me, if the breakup was all this was, I would be fine," she murmured. "Hitoshi and Alex I can deal with. It's just..." She squeezed her eyes shut and sighed. "It's really hard for me to talk about, and I've never talked to anyone other than Hitoshi about it, and not in a long time."

Jaymie reached out and brushed Hitomi's hair back behind her ear.
"No pressure," he said sadly, "but if you want to unload, it's what I'm here for."

Hitomi bit her lip and looked back up at Jaymie at last. She sniffled slightly, then slipped her arms around Jaymie's middle and buried her face in his shoulder, trying very hard not to cry.

Jaymie hesitated for a moment before wrapping his arms around Hitomi and hugging her tightly. He leaned his chin on the top of her head and tried to figure out what to say.
...Yeah, he had nothing. So he just waited to see if Hitomi wanted to continue and held her in what he hoped was a comforting manner.

Hitomi squeezed Jaymie close and leaned into his chest, enjoying the warmth. She sighed softly. "Can we please go somewhere that isn't full of cheese sculptures?" she asked weakly.

Jaymie couldn't help laughing a little under his breath.
"Yeah, I'm sorry. This was kind of a stupid idea- I just didn't know if your roommates would be around or not," he said softly. "We can go wherever you like."

Normally, Hitomi would have suggested going to Jaymie's room, since it was typically rather private, but given that both Tristan and Rudeth were crammed in the same room -- and may or may not return at any given time -- she wasn't sure if she felt like braving it. Of course, she had no idea when Dubhiarr or Aritha might be coming back, either... Still, she'd rather deal with them than Tristan.
"Let's just...go back to my room," she said quietly. "We can watch television, and...I'll see if I can figure out how to tell you about this."

"Okay." Jaymie hugged Hitomi, then pulled back a little and smiled down at her. "Lead on, MacDuff."
He grabbed a few nearby cheese samples of the really cool-looking ones and followed her back upstairs.
