Vampires
There are many misconceptions about vampires, as well as other supernatural beings. Here is where those misconceptions are cleared.
Misconception 1: Vampires cannot go out in the sunlight.
Truth: Vampires are, contrary to myth, completely capable of going into the sunlight. (And no, we don't even sparkle.) However, vampire's eyes are especially sensitive to sunlight, so most vampires avoid bright lights when they can. It's also just so darn theatric...
Misconception 2: Vampires cannot show up in pictures or reflective surfaces.
Truth: Yes, we can. Who the hell can up with THAT, anyway?
Misconception 3: Vampires cannot stand garlic or religious icons.
Truth: As far as the garlic goes...it's not very pleasant, and it does tend to make blood taste bad after a person eats it, but other than that we have no problems with it. And as far as religious icons, most vampires tend to avoid them because we are considered "damned," but once again, there are no real reasons that vampires cannot be around them.
Misconception 4: Vampires are undead.
Truth: Actually, we're very much alive, but we do live on blood.
Misconception 5: A human can be turned into a vampire from a vampire's bite.
Truth: This one is actually partially true. Vampires are a separate race from humans, but certain elder vampires have the ability to transform a mortal into a vampire through a bite. However, typically vampires are born, not turned, and vampires that were once mortals tends to be weaker than other vampires. (And yes, vampires and mortals are typically able to procreate together.)
Misconception 6: Vampires cannot enter a place of residence unless they're invited.
Truth: This was merely a way for farmers and villagers to comfort themselves. Of course, there are some polite vampires who still follow that out hogwash because it's courteous.
Misconception 7: Vampires are immortal.
Truth: This one is essentially true. Vampires can live until someone kills them - and vampires are fairly difficult to kill. They cannot get sick, and they generally heal quickly from minor physical injuries. They don't usually age past their mid-20s, giving them an eternally youthful appearance.
Misconception 8: Vampires don't need to sleep.
Truth: Yes, we kind of do, though are bodies are a bit more tolerant of exhaustion than human bodies.
Vampire Clans
Vampires can be divided into separate clans, each with different stigmas attached to them, and each with different histories.
The Velde
The Velde are the self-proclaimed "royalty" of the vampires. They tend to be aristocratic in nature, with their origins dating back to Victorian England. They are - socially - the most powerful of the vampires, and tend to be the most varied in their skills. They tend to be political in nature and unusually corrupt. They tend to have the most varied looks.
The Persephone
The Persephone are one of the oldest clans, dating back to ancient Greece, the once-proud rulers of the vampires. They are the wisest of the clans and physically the weakest. They have a peculiar love for knowledge, but are also typically unusually secretive. They are more sensitive to sunlight than the other clans. They tend to be paler than other vampires, often with dark hair and eyes.
The Brute
The biggest of the clans, formed during the medeival times in the heart of Germany, the Brute favor physical prowess above political savvy or the acquisition of knowledge. However, they also tend to be more prone to fits of rage then their Kindred. Physically they are usually well-built, with slightly darker skin than typical vampires, and they are slightly less sensitive to the sun than others.
The Nosferatu
Not much is known about the Nosferatu clan, as they tend to keep to themselves. Compared to their Kindred they tend to be kind and shy. They are physically tough, and usually decently wise. Their true downfall is that they typically possess a severe deformation, usually with a specific one running in the family. Because of this, they are not as welcome in the normal vampire community.
The Succubus
The youngest of the vampire clans, they are the Velde's most serious rival. They tend to value physical pleasures and socializing above physical prowess or intelligence, and are typically unusually beautiful. However, they tend to give in rather easily to temptation and tend to be rather blasé.
Eating Habits
Vampires, as you know, needs to drink blood to survive. Different blood gives off different responses. A brief guide:
Type A
Fairly common. To a vampire, it tastes rather mild, a little sweet, very refreshing. Comparable to, say, fresh fruit.
Type B
Fairly common. To a vampire, it taste fairly strong, a bit bitter, energizing. Comparable to coffee.
Type O
Fairly rare. To a vampire, it tastes very sweet and rich, and is a common favorite. Comparable to dark chocolate.
Type AB
Fairly common. To a vampire, it tastes spicy and strong, comparable to the taste of Indian food to a mortal.
Werewolf Blood
It tastes unusually bitter and salty to a vampire, not very pleasant, with an after taste like dirt. But it gives them a sudden boosts of energy and power.
Mage Blood
It taste just like normal mortal blood, according to the rare few who have tried it, but it has the tendency to produce hallucinations comparable to an acid trip.
Vampire Blood
Vampire blood tastes similar to normal blood, but the aroma is headier, and it gives the drinker more sustenance. It's a very intimate act between vampires and would only be done between two vampires who trusted each other a great deal.
Mortal Food
Vampires can eat mortal food, though there is no real point in it since it gives no sustinance and is rather unhealthy for them. Vampires do have a tendency to eat certain mortal foods, such as chocolate. Meat tends to upset their stomachs.
Vampire Diet at Dunehelde
Vampires are Dunehelden are forbidden to drink human blood. Most of them sustain themselves on blood tablets - a round tablet that dissolves itself in water and forms a susbstance like a weak, watery form of human blood. It isn't as palatable as human blood or animal blood and doesn't have much taste, but it sustains them much the same as normal blood would.
