Dubhiarr breathed deeply as she emerged from the school into the courtyard, making her way over to one of the stone benches. Sitting down, she leaned back and looked up at the strange sunless sky, getting lost in venomous thoughts again. She'd loved that hypocritical bastard, dangit. Or she thought she had.
How long had he felt the way he did? Was he only breaking up with her because he'd already found someone else, someone he didn't have to worry about harming? Another vampire, maybe? There weren't too many girls in the school at all, and only a very few of them were vampires. Seele was one, but she had Haneul, and from what she knew one of the mortal freshmen had his eye on her too. There was also Aritha's roommate, but Dubhiarr doubted she even knew Stephen. Who could it be, then?
This was making her feel worse than ever, if that was possible. She curled up, wrapping her arms around her legs and resting her head on her knees, trying to swim through a sea of doubt and pain and confusion.

Aritha hummed softly as she walked through the courtyard. She missed the sun of Greece, but she wasn't missing being only as strong as she looked. Spotting Dubhiarr sitting curled on a bench some distance away, Aritha hurried to see what was the matter. It was unusual to see her like this.
Or at least, it had been earlier. After all, Aritha didn't really know Du all that well... "Du...? Is something wrong?"

Dubhiarr looked up at the sound of Aritha's voice, attempting a smile and failing. She uncurled and lifted her head, nodding slowly.
"My boyfriend broke up with me," she answered quietly. "I'm not sure why. He told me a load of rubbish about not wanting us to end up like Edward and Bella, because he doesn't want to have to turn me into a vampire, or else outlive me, and he didn't want me to be in danger if we married and I bore his child. I told him he was a hypocrite, because he was born to a vampire and a human himself, and anyway he had no way of knowing if I'd be in danger at all. He claimed it was different in his case, since the vampire is his mother. And for all his intentions not to re-enact the Twilight books, I said, he was playing out New Moon just by breaking up with me. Then he told me to go find Elan Choi to be my Jacob equivalent. Then I hit him and told him to leave, and he did.
"And now I don't know what to think," she confessed, her throat tight. "I don't know if that was really what he meant, or if he was just breaking up with me because he's seeing someone else, or what. There aren't that many girls in this place at all, let alone girls close to his age, and he really doesn't seem the bisexual type."

Aritha sat next to Du and promptly pulled her into a hug. "I don't know what he's thinking, but I can promise you one thing. You certainly didn't do anything wrong, though you might get in trouble for hitting him. I don't blame you, but you'll have to deal with that..."
She just hugged her for a moment, thinking. "I don't see him as the sort to cheat on you... He probably was trying to do what he thought was best... wrong as he was. We could make him explain himself?"
Aritha grinned widely. "Or we could sic Nina on him."

Dubhiarr sniffled, leaning against Aritha and listening to her reply. Aritha was making a lot of sense.
"I'll deal with that when I need to," she sighed, knowing Stephen wouldn't keep quiet about who had hit him. Someone would notice eventually.
She couldn't help but be reminded of when Nina had broken up with Kemekin; what kind of consequences would this have? Maybe she'd be banned from Prom. Not that there was much point in going now that she was single again. She'd meant to ask Stephen, but that was never going to happen now.
Hearing Aritha mention Nina, Dubhiarr managed to laugh and grin. "That'd work. Steph has a weakness for Nina's brand of cute."

Aritha blinked then grinned. "I didn't mean send Cute Nina. I meant Ninja Nina," she giggled. "Why would I suggest cute to send to someone who broke up with my friend for a stupid reason?"

Dubhiarr laughed. "Nina is perpetually cute, whether or not she's being ninja. The cute works to disarm her enemies so they don't expect the ninja-ness."
She sighed. "It's things like this that make me really glad to be bi. If ever I decide to boycott one gender, I won't be left wanting."

Aritha flushed and giggled. "Well, I suppose there is that. Maybe that's why Zeph is... But I like my boys a little too much, I think. Even if when the sun sets, I have yet to meet a man my match."
She pulled back and offered Du a handkerchief. "I heard you sniffle. Never sniffle; it can lead to ear infections. I used to get them so bad I couldn't sit up. And then I'd cry, and sniffle, and it would just get worse."

Dubhiarr laughed. "I think Nina can relate to that, little ninja that she is. She's beaten the snot out of Kemekin. Especially when they broke up," she recalled rather sadly. That had been tough on both of them.
She gratefully accepted the handkerchief, raising her eyebrows at the sniffles comment as she blew her nose and wiped it. "Really? I didn't know that. Or that vampires could get sick, for that matter. Does it have to do with having human ancestry?"

Aritha shrugged. "I have a little on my dad's side, so maybe. And we are alive, or at least those of us born as vampires are a bit more alive in a way. I tend to react to things physically more like a human than a turned vampire such as Professor Dion does."
She looked up thoughtfully. "Oh, I bet Nina could take me out. But it wouldn't be brute strength. I can beat a full-grown grizzly barehanded. But Nina's a fighter, and I'm not."

Dubhiarr made a startled little noise in her throat at the mention of Aritha fighting grizzlies, then grinned when she spoke. "I can see that happening. Bet you've taken on your fair share of predators when necessary, huh?"

Aritha blinked. "Necessary? Well, in that I needed blood, I suppose it was necessary. But the only time I ever went up against predators was curiosity. Animals avoid large numbers of people, after all. And a gun is far more sensible a weapon than a little girl. Unless said little girl is Nina."

"That's true," Dubhiarr nodded, then grinned. "Or Kazari."
She sat in silence for a while, her grin fading as she wondered where Stephen had gone. She hoped he'd made it to the infirmary; she had hit him pretty hard. Hopefully someone would be there to guide him around for as long as he couldn't see. The thought filled her with guilt and shame, and she resisted the urge to curl up again. She should probably go and find him, if only to make sure he was okay... if he even let her anywhere near him.

Aritha shook her head slightly, "Kazari is not a little girl, though. Nor does she lose her strength with the sunrise. Ever get in a fight and suddenly get horribly weak? Not fun."
Then she looked at Du and shook his head slowly. "Stop worrying. There are plenty of people in this school that would have helped without even bothering to ask what happened. Stephen's fine, and you shouldn't be concerned about him. He broke up with you, remember?"

"Yeah, but before he left my dorm I punched him in his good eye," Dubhiarr recalled bitterly, looking away from Aritha as she spoke. "I doubt he could even see his way out of the room, let alone down to the infirmary to get looked after. I'm sure someone found him and helped him, but as pissed at him as I am, I still care that much about him."

Aritha shrugged, "Then you should go find him. I certainly couldn't make a decision for you, any more than I'd ask you to make one for me."
She smiled, shaking her head slightly. "Besides, there is always the chance the two of you might not actually remain separated, depending on you, of course."

Dubhiarr looked back at Aritha, seeing her smile and giving a small one in return. "We'll see. It'll take time, no matter what happens. I'm not sure I can forgive him yet."
She stood up and stretched. "But, whether or not I've forgiven him now, he might still need my help. I'm going to go look for him. Wish me luck," she called over her shoulder, starting to head back into the school.

"All the luck in the world, dear!" Aritha waved, grinning at her. "To whatever would be best for you!"
She stood when Du was out of sight, brushing her skirts straight. There wasn't much she could do for her friend, but she hoped she'd at least helped. Though... there was a valid question in how her relationship with Rudeth might work... but she was not that terribly concerned. After all, the situation was rather different with herself and her beau. Sighing slightly, she headed inside. Dubhiarr had her feeling pensive now, and to solve that, she wished to draw.
