The mess hall was filled with wedding-goers, and the wedding party were the first to be there. The whole room was decked out in white, gold and sapphire blue: streamers stretched across the ceiling, and balloons filled the corners; every table was covered in a pristine white tablecloth, gleaming flatware and cutlery and neatly-folded napkins of the same dark blue as the rest. The tables were all strewn with golden glitter in the shape of tiny stars.
One long table overlooked the rest; it was there that Vincent sat with Diana and the rest of the wedding party, waiting to sample the culinary delights Rhythan had prepared -- not the least of which was the cake, which stood on its own table in the far corner of the room. It indeed seemed a fitting altar to the gods of sugar comas, if any such gods existed: it stood five tiers high, its frosting marbled in gold and white, topped with figurines of Vincent and Diana. Vincent's figurine, made of milk chocolate and wearing a fondant tuxedo, wore an opera mask, while the white chocolate Diana sported lupine ears along with a meringue wedding gown.
Vincent glanced up at the clock on the wall behind him; it was getting close to twenty after six. Veronique had announced the entrances of everyone in the wedding party, not least the honored couple themselves, and the first course of dinner was going to be served any minute now.

Ariel sat happily between her stepmother and Ellie, gazing happily out at the beautifully-decorated mess hall. Whoever had done all this had done an awesome job of it. It was going to be a shame to have to take this all down when the day was over. Not to mention having to eat that gorgeous cake. What would it taste like, she wondered? Chocolate, maybe, or marbled chocolate and vanilla? Ariel's mouth watered a bit at the very thought. When was supper going to be served? She wanted to be able to officially welcome Diana into the Hawk family, but she couldn't do so until after the first course was done.

Rivienne sat poised between Ellie and Jason, opposite Sa'id, waiting for the beginning of dinner. The ceremony had been among the most beautiful she had ever seen, and she been to many weddings in her time. Diana had never looked more lovely -- Aritha had certainly done a magnificent job with the dresses -- and Vincent was practically glowing.
Between the wedding and the recovery of Aodh's sight, among other recent events, Rivienne couldn't remember feeling this happy in a long time. And how could she not feel happy, looking on the new couple? She couldn't imagine anyone would be able to feel melancholy today; their joy was positively contagious.
It made her hopeful, looking on them. It was so easy recently to feel disenchanted by the idea of romance, particularly for someone as old as she. But Vincent was only a few years younger than her, and had also been married once before. If he could find love again... Well, it was something to ponder, if nothing else.

Hitoshi wasn't exactly one for weddings. Not that he'd been to many weddings before, of course, but it wasn't exactly the sort of thing he would expect himself to enjoy. There were too many people packed in together -- the entire school was crammed in one room -- and the idea of marriage in general wasn't something Hitoshi thought very high of.
Still, though, he had enjoyed it thus far much more than he had expected to. He didn't even mind terribly being the ring bearer, as shocked as he was to be asked. And as frilly and embarrassing as Jaymie had made the suit, he had Jaymie to thank that he wasn't dressed identically to his sister. (That stopped being cute when they learned how to speak in complete sentences.) Even Hitoshi had to feel a twinge of happiness for the two professors.
Unfortunately, this meant that Hitoshi was seating on the other side of the Great Hall from Alex, since Hitoshi was a member of the procession. And it left him seating with Ian to one side, and Hitomi across from him. If he weren't seated at the end of the table, he might have gone into a fit of claustrophobia. Personally, he just wanted dinner to hurry and be served, that way he could slip off to find Alex, and hopefully find somewhere less crowded to lurk.

Jason couldn't help but look over at the Hawks every so often from his seat almost all the way across the table from them. They all looked so happy together, and that nade Jason happy for them. Everyone involved in this had done their best to make this day special, and it was really paying off.
He glanced over at his fellow bridesmaids (well, two -maids and two -matrons, technically, and he himself was a bridesman), all looking wonderful in identical sapphire-colored gowns, and smiled. This was arguably the happiest of his days here at Dunehelden -- so far, anyway. He was sure there were more happy days to come, just as sure as there was inevitably going to be more trouble. It seemed to be a neverending cycle around here, more so than the rest of the world.

"It's lovely, isn't it?" Rivienne glanced at the boy beside her. She unfortunately hadn't had much opportunity to get to know him prior to the wedding, but she knew of him well enough. He was a sweet boy.
"Much different from my wedding, I must admit. I thought my wedding was big, but it was certainly nowhere near this extravagant." Rivienne grinned.

Jason smiled as Professor Volkova acknowledged him, and spoke in reply with a polite dip of his head. "It's beautiful. I don't think anyone could ask for better. Everyone really put their hearts into this -- especially the bride and groom," he laughed. "Look at them both... they're practically glowing. I swear Vincent was almost bouncing up and down in excitement when everyone was coming up the aisle."

Rivienne laughed lightly, covering her mouth with her hand. "He was, wasn't he?" she replied, her tone almost teasing. "It's nice to see things turning around, after so much anguish. They deserve to be happy."

Jason nodded. "Indeed they do. I'm honored to be a part of it, too. They've both done so much for us, and I feel like this is only a partial repayment for all that. In my case, at least."

Rhythan burst into the room then, nearly knocking over Aye Goyan as he pranced amongst the congregation to stand before the high table, arms akimbo and feet apart, like a gangly Superman cosplayer.
"Dinnerrrrr~," he bellowed, before dropping his resonant tone and reverting to the trill of a schoolgirl, "is served."

Diana looked up and grinned in amusement as Rhythan burst into the room, prancing gaily around between the tables and almost knocking at least one student off her feet before he finally stood in front of the high table, his hands on his hips and his feet apart, merrily announcing that dinner was served.
Oh, Rhythan. Ever the dramatist. She laughed along with the rest of the room, eagerly awaiting the feast she knew Rhythan had prepared for them all. Everything Rhythan made was excellent, and for such a special occasion it would surely be unthinkable to him to serve anything less than the very best.

Vincent hid his laughter behind his hand as the cook made his dramatic entrance, and watched as he pranced around the room before announcing that dinner was served. Rhythan, Rhythan, Rhythan... what would this place be without him?
Not nearly as much fun, that's what, Vincent answered himself in his thoughts. He grinned and lowered his hand from his mouth, waiting patiently for the first course to be brought out. What delectable dishes had Rhythan been working on? The aromas coming from the kitchen were certainly mouth-watering enough all by themselves.
