Investigating disturbances in a small town, a new cabal stumbles across a significant cache of magical lore, apparently unconnected to any owner. Whose is- or was- it? Is there someone else looking for it? And most importantly, what's in here and what can we use it for?
Players: Hitoshi Boreas Robert Alex (DMPC/NPC account)
Format: Make normal Mages, 0XP. You are not required to figure out Order immediately, though it will come into play soon. PM the sheet to me on here when you get it.
Since this is a mystery, we're going to run this a lot like a choose-your-own-adventure game: I will set up scenes, then you ask questions, make choices, and proceed as so. While you are of course going to be IC, please include the same amount of detail as you would in a normal game. There's going to be a lot of OOC chatter, so just put it in parentheses or use a dividing --- line or whatever you prefer.
There will be NPCs and character interaction eventually, of course, as well as combat, which will probably be run on IRC for ease. Dice rolls outside of combat, I trust you guys; combat logs will be posted.
Writing and posting an IC log of our first impromptu session is worth 3XP. I don't care how detailed it is; mostly this is to see who thinks what details were important IC, and to establish character for our dear reader(s) and for my own amusement. :3
Any questions?

From the desk of Hitoshi "Kagero" Gilespi, Moros of the Mysterium. Thursday June 11, 2009. 7:23 AM.
Alex, Robert, Theophanes, and Hitoshi – myself – (hereafter referred to as “the Cabal”) were assembling at the Border's on Madison Highway last night (Wednesday June 10, 2009). These meetings are held periodically to discuss local conditions and any recent events which might concern us. As was usual, the meeting consisted primarily of Robert burying his nose in a computer manual (Hacking: The Art of Exploitation by Jon Erickson), Theophanes making sarcastic comments, and Alex trying in vain to conjure some form of intelligent conversation with Robert not involving computers.
It was during this meeting that Theophanes (hereafter referred to as “Boreas”) mentioned an unnatural power outage in the neighborhood near his home which was accompanied by a strong magical surge. Boreas made a sarcastic remark toward Alex (hereafter referred to as Ozymandias). Hitoshi (hereafter referred to as “Kagero”) rebuked him for his remark. Ozymandias exited toward the parking lot, and Kagero followed. After a few moments, Ozymandias and Kagero chose to continue on toward the neighborhood. Boreas and Robert followed.
After some investigation, the source of the power outage was tracked to a specific house in the neighborhood. (760 Honeycutt Cir., located in Abbington Estates.) The house appeared abandoned. The yard was overgrown. Boreas knocked on the door, and there was no answer. The door was unlocked. The Cabal entered.
Mage sight revealed spectral spots somewhat like blood in appearance along walls and floors. Boreas, upon checking the freezer, found large amounts of frozen blood and what he described to be frozen human faces. (No one else checked the freezer.)
Kagero, through use of mage sight, discovered that the basement was suspiciously large. Several bedrooms were explored. Spectral handprints appeared in front of the Cabal on the walls. Attempts were made to contact the spirit creating the prints, but no response was given.
Ghostly whirring sounds came from outside. The sound seemed to respond to Boreas.
Boreas and Robert froze and heated the cement blocks of the foundation rapidly until a small portion of the foundation collapsed. Nothing of interest was present beneath the house, though Kagero noted that the apparent layout of the cellar and the true layout of the cellar did not line up correctly. Ozymandias noticed that Space magic was used heavily, by some means placing the attic in the cellar and vice versa.
Entering the house once more, the Cabal chose to search for an entrance to the attic. The only remaining possibility was a door in the kitchen. Finding the door locked, Kagero used a transmutation spell to change the door's substance to Styrofoam in order to continue on. The Cabal went up the stairs, finding themselves in what appeared to be a basement.
Inside the basement, the Cabal found a chest which seemed to be warded against corruption from the surrounding. Several strong magical items were inside: a golden tunic, a long thin metal box, a small box resembling a pillbox, a statue of a winged lion, and a coiled pink whip. The Cabal quickly relocated the chest and the items to Boreas's house.
Investigations thus far have revealed: 1) the tunic seems to have Greek origins and is strongly imbued with Forces, 2) the long thin box contains a magic wand which yet needs further research, 3) the pillbox seems to be Time magic, with some sort of a clock-like mechanism and a complicated lock-system, 4) the statue seems to be living and feels vaguely Lycan, 5) the whip seems to have strong Mind magic. All items need much more research and the actual abilities are unknown. However, all seem unusually powerful – if somewhat benign – in abilities.
