((Set mid-july of the upcoming schoolyear))
Austen sighed and looked around the vast front courtyard of the castle. Nicholai had had the idea to send her to Dunehelden early... so that Austen would get her bearings before everyone else started showing up. And wouldn't burst into tears when she got lost.
But that didn't make it any less stressful.
Austen spun slowly in place, the ties on her lace-trimmed, apron-cut dress fluttering slightly in the hot summer breeze. The ruffles on her skirt swirled, and she bit her lip. Where... was she supposed to go from here?

Ash was wandering around the castle grounds. SaeRyun had just yelled. . .well, he didn't yell, he spoke forcefully for her to quit annoying him while he was trying to work and for her to "go out there and make new friends". . . or something like that. Ash never payed "Rimmy" that much attention anyway, unless he was holding a foil. Then she knew to run.
Some movement caught her golden eyes. There was a small girl with pink hair, looking adorible and terribly distressed. Ash smirked and walked over to the girl in question.
"Hello, there," Ash said, her voice deep and cool, "You ok?"

Austen brought a hand defensibly up to her lips, nibbling on her fingertips.
"I'm... supposed to learn my way around the school..." Her brow furrowed. "That's why I'm here so early. But..." She craned her neck to look at the castle, now behind her. She shuddered. "I don't know where to start."
She sniffed. No, Austen, don't start crying. No matter how ominous that castle looks. The calm tone with which the other girl spoke helped a bit. She was able to swallow the lump in her throat with some difficulty.

Ash's yellow eyes widened and then her face softened at the sound and pure insecurity in the girl's tone. She smiled and placed her hands on her hips. "Well, it just so happens that I have been sent to go on my own exploring of this castle, only I've been here for about three days," Ash said, doing her best not to go "AWWW!!" or pick up the smaller girl and cuddle her.
"Tell ya what," Ash said leaning forward a little to look the adorable creature in the eye, "I'll help you, that way you won't be alone, how's that?" Ash reached out a slinder pale hand, "My name is Ash by the way."

Austen shuffled forward a few steps, taking the girl's hand tentatively in her own, still nibbling the fingertips of her other hand.
"I'd like that," she said after a few moments of contemplation. She looked up at Ash through her pink fringe. "I'm Austen. It's nice to meet you."

Ash gave Austen a closed liped smile. "You too," she said straghtening and remaining to hold Austen's hand. She wasn't sure what it was that made her do so. Mabye Rimmy was rubbing off on her, eh, whatever.
"So, where do you need to go?" Ash said flipping her bangs out of her face. She adjusted her tank top so the stupid thing would stop falling off one shoulder and returned her gaze to Austen. "Can I ask you something?"

Austen wrinkled her freckled nose. "Everywhere," she said simply.
Then her eyebrows rose, curious. "What?"

Ash slowly began to lead Austen into the castle. "Where are you from?" she asked, "That accent and voice are just. . . if you will excuse my language, too fucking adorable to be natural!" She chuckled.
"You actually," Ash paused and looked Austen over, "sound a whole lot like a . . . Pikachu?"

Austen blinked her dark eyes. "I'm from Jersey," she explained. "I've always sounded like this."
Then she smiled. She had been told this before. Holding her free hand up to one side of her chin as a fist, as if it were a paw, she smiled broadly and chirruped, "Pikachu~!"
It was a spot-on impression. One she had been doing since childhood.

Ok, that was it, Ash couldn't resist anymore. In one swoop she had picked Austen up into a bear hug and spun her around once. "OH MY GOD!! THAT WAS SOOO CUTE!!!" she exclaimed, "From now on, I am Ash and you shall be MY Pikachu, you have NO choice!" XD

Austen made a small nmph! as she was hoisted from her feet and spun around, lace and curls flying everywhere.
"Kay!" She managed, though her lungs were being squeezed.

Ash smiled and placed Austen back on her feet. "Good, you've learned someting that Rimmy still hasn't learned in 30 years!" she said happily with a chuckle. "Now, let's go, Pikachu," she said pointing her finger towards the large front doors of the castle.

Austen pressed a hand to her side. Even with the firm fabric of her bodice, Ash as smooshed her ribs pretty efficiently.
"Um, who is Rimm-- oh, okay." Austen was only too happy to be led, and she followed her new companion to the doors, adjusting her gloves as she went.

After the duo stepped into the entry way Ash looked around, trying to decide which way they should go first.
Then as the doors closed behind them, she caught a very yummy smell. She perked up and sniffed the air again. What was that? She followed the sent mentally and realized. . . it was coming from Austen?!
"Hey, Pikachu?" she asked, "You wearing perfume or something?"

Austen's rosy cheeks became all the rosier with a blush, and she went back to nibbling on her fingertips.
"Um, that depends. Are you smelling something like warm cotton candy?"

The smell that Ash was smelling was nothing like cotton candy it was more of. . . oh right, Rimmy had warned her about certain humans that had really good sented blood. Or whatever he had called it. "Sure," she said, not wanting to sound wierd about how yummy her new friend's blood was bound to be.
"Hmm, actually," Ash said thinking, "I'm kinda hungry. . . " She hadn't eaten all day and that was pretty dangerous with a girl that smelled like vamp bacon around. "Let's go to the mess hall and we can work our way from there."

Austen nodded, blinking around as they traveled the big, open room that could only be the mess hall. There were only a couple of tables set out; reasonable, seeing as there was still a significant fraction of summer vacation left to go before the semester started.
Austen rubbed her bare arms. It was much cooler in here than it was outside.
"Hey, Ash?" She looked up at her companion, hooking her pink curls behind her ears. "Do they allow pets here?"

Ash went to get a cup of warm water and a few blood tablets. She turned to Austen at her question. "Ummm, I'm honestly not sure," she answered, pursing her lips to one side. "Why do you ask?" she inquired with a raised eyebrow, "They allow were-things so I'm sure animals wouldn't be too much of a problem."
