Hoshi dug his hands into the pockets of his jacket as he walked along the corridor. It was strange how much he missed her company when he had only known her a few months. He had taken it for granted that she would be there, and then suddenly...she was gone.
No matter what they did, no matter how furiously they searched, the forest refused to yield her to them. Was it possible, Hoshi wondered, that she was lost to them permanently? Another face flashed through his mind, the face of someone else he had taken for granted. The face of someone he had lost.
No, he reprimanded himself. Ellie is strong. I won't lose her. She'll be back.

Ellie barreled down the hallway, head down, not caring where she was going as long as she was away from the forest and away from the dorms. She rounded a corner and paused. Something about this area was familiar to her, and she took up her previous pace as she traveled along the corridor. It was a few seconds later that she collided with something-- a person, solid and warm and with a scent that sent vague recollections aflare. She glanced up to see a face she knew and yet could not recall; ducking her head once more, she hunched her shoulders to her ears and bumped her head into his shoulder.

Hoshi jolted as something small and warm and familiar fell into his arms. It was far too surreal to believe, but she was unmistakable. Hoshi pulled her close to him, threading his fingers into her curly hair. He could smell the faint scent of lilac from her hair.
"Ellie?" he whispered. "Are you alright?"

Ellie took in a deep, slow breath, listening to the soothing tones in the man's voice. They lit up her memory and several images flashed in her mind: strolling along the edge of a courtyard, laughing and munching on a small bag of cookies; sitting in the library, trading favorite Shakespeare quotes; in a kitchen, the man cleaning up an egg he had dropped after she had confessed the fate of her son...
And then, a name.
"Hoshi!" she sobbed, wrapping her arms around his middle. She remembered now. She remembered everything, including her imprisonment in the forest. She shuddered.

"Ellie, what happened?" he whispered, tightening his arms around her. She was back. After two long weeks, after so much searching... could she really have come back, just like that?

Elliestraaeln had to cry. It was too much. She shook her head, burrowing closer into the hollow of Hoshi's throat.
"The Fae are heartless creatures," she managed to whisper into his neck, her words broken by her spasmodic breathing. She froze then, as if struck by a thought.
Her body stiff in Hoshi's arms, she looked up at him with her blue eyes wide and tear-streaked. "You're real, aren't you Hoshi? I'm not beign tricked again. Oh God, don't let this be another of their experiments...!"

Hoshi sighed, shaking his head. "I was about to ask you the same thing," he murmured. "Do you realize how long you've been gone? We were so worried. Kemekin--" He caught himself. She had been through so much already, and the last thing he wanted was to make it any worse.
"Come on," he said soothingly, "let's get you to your room. I think you need to rest."

"Kemekin?" Ellie latched on to the name, much as she had latched onto Hoshi. "What's wrong with Kemekin?" She attempted to step away from her friend with the intent to go in search of her nephew. No thought of rest crossed her mind. "Did he have another seizure? Is he okay?"

"Seizure?" he repeated, raising an eyebrow. "No, it's nothing like that." Hoshi rubbed Ellie's back soothingly. "Kemekin has just been worried about you. We all have."

Ellie sighed. She stepped back to Hoshi and hugged him once more, feeling both relief and a sudden guilt. She had caused more than her share of worry since her arrival at Dunehelden.
"I'm sorry," she said into Hoshi's shoulder.

"Don't be," he interjected, rubbing her shoulders comfortingly. "They'll all just be glad to know you're okay." He smiled, tucking a strand of Ellie's hair back behind her ear. "Now, no more tears. Why don't we head back to your room? You can get some rest, and I'll let Kemekin know you're okay."

Ellie gave Hoshi a watery smile. She didn't want to rest. Her mind was reeling and she wanted desperately to see Kemekin. Her body however, rebelled against such thoughts. Her feet hurt. Her head hurt. Hey eyes and throat burned. Her ears buzzed.
"How soon can you let Kemekin know?" she asked. If she could have her way, she would be running to her nephew's dorm at this very moment. As it were, she didn't know if Hoshi would let her do that. She had missed her nephew terribly. She had missed Hoshi just as terribly. As well as Diana, and Smoke...
She felt she should say as much. The words wouldn't come, however. At the moment she was perfectly content to just follow Hoshi.

Hoshi sighed in relief, leading Ellie along with his hand at the small of her back. Ellie was home, and more importantly, she seemed mostly unharmed.
"I'll go to Kemekin the minute I leave your room," he assured her. "I'm sure he'll be relieved to know that his aunt is safe."
Telling the rest of the school that Ellie was back would have to wait until tomorrow, however. She needed her rest, and one more day without Ellie working in the sick bay couldn't hurt anything. Besides, she needed at least one day back without Bolin harassing her.
