Diana woke slowly, wincing in discomfort and blinking in confusion. She was lying on something smooth and hard... and reflective, she realized, seeing her own image looking back at her from the floor, as if she were looking into a mirror. Raising her head, she jumped, seeing herself reflected back a hundred times on every side.
She stood up shakily, dizzy and disoriented. Stretching out her arms in front of her, she took a few small steps, trying to find a wall to lean against. Her own reflected hands seemed to reach back toward her, pawing uneasily at what they couldn't touch. She found a wall and pressed her hands against it, judging it firm.
Keeping one hand against the glass, she stretched out her other arm into the air around her. Nothing came within her arm's reach. Tentatively she stepped away, inching out into the kaleidoscopic maze of mirrored walls. She stumbled a little, but caught herself and carried on.
Inch by inch she wound her way on an erratic path between the mirrors, not knowing where she was going, or if there was a way out. She wished she could hear, or at least perceive something other than her sight. Her eyes couldn't be trusted in this place.

Korlian stepped into the hall of mirrors and blinked for a moment. Well, this was an interesting dream. He looked back, then reached and grabbed Vincent's sleeve, jerking him from one dream to the next. "She's here... this way."
He moved forward through the hall, his footsteps echoing on the glass as if he wore boots... the boots he was appearing to wear. Glamour was so nice... and in these dreams, what he created was as good as real. Besides, sounds were easy to imitate. Boot heels, soft cries... a voice with no source... all were childishly simple. He knew Diana would see him long before he was in reach... Her reaction would be entertaining, especially her reaction to seeing Vincent behind him.

Vincent stepped warily through the hall behind Korlian, his own boots echoing on the glass floor. He looked around, seeing a hundred reflections of his own pale, anxious face looking back at him. He stayed as close to Korlian as he could without tripping over him, wanting to find Diana and get out of here as soon as possible.
A much sharper clicking sound met his ears, and his heart jumped. It was the sound of Diana's heels, moving slowly and sporadically, heading away from them. He couldn't see her reflection in the mirrors yet, but he didn't dare try to move ahead of Korlian and find her on his own. This was worse than wandering blindly through the fog -- now he was seeing too much. He would have to rely on his ears. If only Diana could do the same, he could call out to her and lead her back to him.

Korlian walked with assurance, never once bumping into a mirror. He could see, somewhat, the difference between the two-dimensional reflections and the three dimensional world of the mirrors themselves. Diana's reflections came within sight and he decided to pause, looking at Vincent. "I told you I would lead you to her... find the real Diana," he said, gesturing ahead of them.

You've got to be joking... Vincent nodded, brushing cautiously past Korlian and edging forward, toward the clustered reflections of the one he was seeking. He moved slowly, seeing his own reflections joining Diana's, looking for the one place he could not see his own image. That would be where the real Diana stood.

Diana inched slowly forward, feeling her heart beating painfully hard in her chest. Would she never find a way out of here? Every corner she turned looked exactly the same as the last. How was she to know she wasn't just going in circles?
Suddenly two new reflections appeared among the hundreds of her own. She gasped and jumped in fright, whirling around and staring into the many mirrors, clutching her heart. It was Vincent, and -- she blinked -- Korlian, in his strange new form.
And what was Vincent doing here? Of course she had hoped he would come and find her, but it was a half-hearted hope... they had been on opposite sides of the auditorium when the Red Death had removed his mask, and then she had turned up here in this maze of shadows and glass... how could he have found her? Was this even real? If she was dreaming, perhaps she could have brought him into her dream, but it didn't mean that Vincent really was here...
She shivered a little, willing her heart to calm down. Lowering her hand fom her chest, she looked this way and that, trying to discern what was reflection and what was flesh. She could smell Vincent's cologne, mingled with sweat on top of the musky scent of his skin. Apart from that, there was a strange smell, like damp earth and strange flowers, silks and spices. Those scents probably came from Korlian.
Follow your nose, Diana. The nose never lies.
She turned around slowly, inhaling through her nose, pinpointing the direction of the mingled smells in the still air and stepping toward them with increasing confidence. They were moving slowly toward her; with luck she and they would find each other.

Vincent jumped a little as he heard Diana gasp in surprise, watching her reflections whirl around dizzyingly. He kept searching the walls around him, looking for the one place he was not reflected beside Diana. He still relied heavily on his ears as well, listening for the sound of her breaths, the whisper of fabric on fabric as she moved, the tapping of heels upon glass with her every step.
He saw her images moving toward him, and spotted the one on which his own was not superimposed. A smile of relief came to his face as he strode out confidently, reaching out and taking Diana's outstretched hands, pulling her against him and holding her close. One-half of Korlian's end of the bargain was completed.

Korlian watched them for a second, chuckling. He applauded them, giving a slight bow. "And now I go to fulfill the other half of the deal. Have fun..."
He laughed and stepped right through a mirror, leaving them behind. They would be fine... and he had other things planned for this night.

Vincent looked up as Korlian spoke, watching him applaud and bow to him. He released Diana, turning toward the Prince and starting to speak, only to see him turn and vanish through one of the mirrors. And then there were two.
"Wait-- ...shit." He sighed. He knew he had missed something when making the bargain... he had neglected to make sure Korlian would see him and Diana safely back to reality. Oh, well. At least he knew Korlian was going to keep his word.
"Well," he murmured, looking back at Diana, "at least we have each other, and I know that Ariel will be safe. Wherever she is." Hopefully she wasn't stuck in Dreamland like they were. He took Diana's hand, looking around them again. "Now, all we need to do is find a way out of here and back to the real world." Easier said than done.

Diana nodded, taking Vincent's hand and squeezing it gently. She felt much safer with him beside her, but she knew that they were just as lost as ever.
Follow your nose, Diana. She breathed in, smelling the air, not knowing exactly what she was hoping to find. The aromas Korlian had brought with him were fading from the air, leaving Vincent's scents. The air was still, carrying nothing toward her from elsewhere.
She looked around again, searching the mirrors for other clues. She was able to see herself in the mirrors, so there had to be light coming from somewhere, and that somewhere could be a way out; it was only logical. Then again, dreams rarely conformed to human logic.
She paused, stepping toward a wall, running her fingertips along its smooth surface. There had to be more than one mirror per wall, given the sheer number of reflections. Now if she could only find... aha! Her fingernail caught slightly in the hairline gap between two panels of mirror. Holding her finger there, she raised her other hand and waved Vincent over.
I have an idea! Give me your sword!

Vincent blinked as he stepped forward, confused, but complied. He drew his sword and handed it to her hilt-first, watching to see what she planned to do.

Diana took the sword, placing the tip into the crack she had found and pushing on the thin metal blade, intending to lever the two mirrors apart. It worked; the edge of one mirror shifted away from the other, pushed outward, away from the wall. A thin shaft of white light blazed forth from behind the wall, bringing with it a whiff of fresh air.
Diana carefully gripped the edge of the mirror with her free hand and pulled, still wedging the sword into the gap to widen it. The light grew stronger and the beam wider as she moved the mirror; she winced as it blinded her, reflected off of every other mirror and magnified a hundredfold.
Eyes tightly shut, Diana gave one last pull on the mirror, feeling it break free from the wall. She blinked, setting the mirror down and shielding her eyes with her freed hand; lowering the hand that still held the sword, she gazed out through the doorway she had made in the wall. What strange things awaited them outside?

Vincent shielded his eyes with one hand as he stepped forward, looking out through the hole in the wall. He had no idea what to expect; this wasn't his dream, after all. He frowned, leaning forward, seeing...
...nothing. Beyond the hall of mirrors was an endless expanse of white. Vincent looked at Diana, then back at the emptiness beyond them. Okay... what now?
He swallowed, trying to think. What had Korlian told him? "This is your world... The only danger is one you create, or one we conjure." This was Diana's mind; it was up to her to give them somewhere to go. He looked back at her, licking his lips nervously.
"This is your world, not mine," he told her. "You have to shape your own dream. What happens from now on is entirely up to you." But I think I'd like my sword back before we go anywhere, please.

Diana handed his sword back to him and signed a reply. Dreams are strange things... very often they shape themselves.
She stepped out into the whiteness, finding it firm under her feet. Smiling, heartened, she turned and offered Vincent her hand, signing with her free one. Let's see what we can make of this place...
She led him forward, the landscape taking shape around them. There was cool green grass underfoot, and trees around them, reaching up to the cloud-scattered blue sky above. They emerged from the trees and found themselves at the top of a hill, with the land sloping gently underneath them and rolling away for a long distance beyond. Diana let go of Vincent's hand, looking around, wondering where to go.
