Stephen laughed. "If by 'responsible for Peach' you mean I gave her the nickname, then yeah, I'm him. Kemekin, eh?" He met the boy's unusually blue eyes. "You wouldn't be any relation to Ellie, the school nurse, would you?"

Nina came barreling out of the fort, slowing her momentum at the last second but knocking into Kemekin with some force nonetheless, throwing both arms around his middle at the moment of impact.
"You found them!" she cheered into his collarbone.

"My aunt. Yeah. Ellie is my dad's twin si--mmph! Ahem! Well hello there, Nina." Kemekin, still swaying slightly from the collision, took a moment to regain control of his balance. Patting the girl's shoulder, with his free hand he produced from his back pocket a palm-sized, flat tin. Inside was a set of graphite pencils in different hardnesses and shades. Scratched into the corner of the lid of the tin was a tiny image of a snake with a hooked tail-- this of course branded it as Nina's.

Dubhiarr lay still in the cool dimness of the blanket tent, debating whether or not to leave. On the one hand, Stephen and Nina were both out there. On the other hand... Kemekin and Nina were both out there. It took a good deal of willpower to crawl out of the tent and walk casually over to the door where the others loitered.
"Afternoon, Stephen... Kemekin."

"Hey, Du," Stephen smiled at her. "Hey, Peach," he added, looking down at Nina. "How are my two favorite girls?"

Nina grinned up at Stephen, still attached to Kemekin. "Quite close to wonderful, actually. What brings you by?"

Kemekin raised an eyebrow at Dubhiarr, still smiling. "Lovely afternoon, en't it?" He gave Nina's shoulders a squeeze and couldn't help but notice the ever-so-slight disgust in the look the purple-haired maiden sent in his direction.

"Just thought I'd drop by and see how you were doing," Stephen answered mildly, also noticing the venom in Dubhiarr's voice when she addressed Kemekin. "Nice castle you've got set up," he grinned. "How long did it take to build?"

"Before or after I sent it crashing down on top of Nina?" Dubhiarr replied, half-grinning.

Nina giggled. "It's good thing it's constructed solely of soft, cuddly materials."
She smiled at Dubhiarr from beneath Kemekin's chin.

"Cuddly. Right." Dubhiarr's grin slipped a little as her gaze lingered on Nina and Kemekin. Their hug could reasonably have ended thirty seconds ago without emotional harm coming to either of them.

Nina lifted one eyebrow at Dubhiarr's change in expression. What was her problem?
Oh. Open up a little. Right.
She pulled reluctantly away from Kemekin and brightened up. "Hey! I'm working on that drawing you asked for-- want to see it?"
She twirled on her heel and crouched to enter the tent in search of her sketchbook.

Dubhiarr was silent as she watched Nina duck into the blanket tent again. Of course, that was why Nina had hidden her sketchbook earlier. She hadn't wanted to make her mad by showing her a sketch of her newest love interest. Well, Dubhiarr sighed to herself, there was only so much she could do about this new relationship (and that was a darned shame).

Kemekin approached the entrance to the tent and knelt in front of it, ducking his head to peek inside. It was bigger than it looked from the doorway-- there was a large nest of blankets and pillows inside.
It looked quite comfortable. Kemekin was seriously contemplating going inside and taking a nap.

Dubhiarr slipped deftly between Kemekin and the blanket tent--between him and Nina, she corrected herself mentally. Glaring at the boy, she bent down so they were nose-to-nose and hissed, "If you touch--no, if so much as look at my Nina the wrong way, mark my words, you WILL regret it. Am. I. Clear."

Kemekin gulped audibly. He blinked once-- twice-- then composed his expression into a polite smile that made his blue eyes catch the light. "Not that I had any intention of doing so," he said coolly, "but if I didn't know better I'd say you don't trust Nina. If she tells me 'no,' then I'll drop whatever the hell I'm doing. Besides," he added, his voice gaining a hint of brightness, "If I didn't, Nina is more than capable of kicking my ass, thank you very much."

Stephen cautiously watched the quite drama unfolding just over the threshold, one eyebrow slightly lifted. Shit, am I glad I'm not him right now... He knew well what a ticked-off Dubhiarr was capable of. Hell hath no fury...

"I trust Nina completely," Dubhiarr answered, in a voice that could freeze a glass of water solid at ten paces. "It's you I'll be keeping my eye on, Kemekin. Don't sleep too easily."

Kemekin beamed at Dubhiarr. "Well, I'll make sure to catch all my z's during classtime, then."
With that, a small salute to her and another to Stephen, Kemekin ducked into the tent. He crawled forward until he reached the opposite site and sat cross-legged, watching Nina search around for her sketchbook.

Nina emerged from beneath a pile of pillows with the book in her arms. It had been laying in the tent for less than a minute or two. How it had migrated to beneath the cushions Nina could only guess at.
She had heard most of Kemekin's and Dubhiarr's little exchange-- it probably be best not to mention it while both parties were still in the room. She looked at Kemekin, wondering what about him made Dubhiarr so... well, Nina did not have a polite word for it. She and her roommate had not conversed at all for the two previous years of Nina's residency. Why Dubhiarr suddenly felt the need to protect her from anything with a Y chromosome...
No matter. That was an issue to be settled at a later date. She settled against Kemekin's side (it was chilly in the room and the boy was very warm) and opened the sketchbook to lay it across his knees.
"Just flip through 'til you find it. It's near the middle somewhere."

Kemekin frowned. He could see Dubhiarr's feet through the gap of the opening of the fort, a few meters away. He didn't notice the successful end of Nina's search until the girl was settled beside him.
The sketchbook now lay open across his knees, showing a colored drawing of a tall, pink-haired young woman in a lab coat, sticking out her tongue in concentration as she took a welder to what looked like brain matter. Kemekin opened his mouth to comment on it, but stopped himself. Nina looked so very small curled up at his side... Of course he knew better than to think that-- he and Nina had arm wrestled a few times in the mess hall. Every match ended with Nina grinning sweetly and he grimacing, rubbing a sore shoulder or wrist from a slow and grueling defeat.
A smile curled the corners of his mouth and he wrapped an arm around the girl. No, Nina was not small and frail. Small and explosive seemed to fit much better. Like a firecracker or a bottle rocket.

Nina watched Kemekin's hand at the corner of the page, paused in the act of lifting the paper to turn to the next image. Her eyes flitted up to meet Kemekin's. "What," she half snapped, quietly, as her cheeks flushed a brilliant shade of pink. "Don't you like my mad-scientist Seele?"

Dubhiarr's eyes and ears lingered on the goings-on inside the tent. Nina and Kemekin certainly seemed to be having fun. And that was what pissed her off. She stood quietly for a moment, debating what to do. Barge into the tent and banish Kemekin from the dorm? Walk away and ignore them? Explain to Nina exactly *why* she hated Kemekin?
Well, Nina would find ways around option one... option two would feel like surrender. Option three seemed her best bet... but she couldn't say a word with the two guys hanging around. She sighed. It would just have to wait for a more opportune moment.

Stephen watched the argument with a cautious eye and a buttoned lip. When Kemekin crawled into the tent, Stephen warily approached Dubhiarr's side and touched her shoulder. She was tense and warm under his hand.

Dubhiarr turned her head at the touch on her shoulder, looking into Stephen's eye.
"Yes, Steph?" she inquired, trying to keep the bitterness from her voice. She had nothing against the vampire.
