Aritha pulled Rudeth backstage, a smile dancing just on the edges of her lips. Rudeth needed cheering up, and she had things for him. They had taken her a while to get right, so hopefully he would like them. And a friend of hers had helped with some of their own ideas, so she had a large surprise for him.
Making sure he kept his eyes shut, she led him into the costume shop, her smile growing into a large grin. Finally getting him where she wanted him, she pushed him onto a bench and tapped his nose with a forefinger. "No peeking now..."

Rudeth stumbled along behind Aritha, clutching her hand, eyes closed and doing his damnedest not to run into anything. It smelled stuffy and slightly musty, like it was decades overdue for a good airing out, but familiar.
Rudeth banged his knee against something thin and metal. A few things clattered against each other, making soft metallic sounds. Where in the world was she taking him?
He dropped onto the bench where she pushed him, eyes still squeezed shut. He was fairly sure they were somewhere backstage -- there weren't many places in the castle that echoed quite like the auditorium, and the clutter he needed to step over was quite distinctive.

Aritha moved off a bit, digging through the costumes she'd used to hide a small chest of clothing. She'd been working on this since Rudeth's birthday, every spare moment not spent with him or on school things. Remembering with a sigh that she needed to get Angel's gift to him and for some reason oddly reluctant to do so, she lifted the chest and brought it over toward Rudeth.
Now, where was Jaymie? That was part of the surprise. Putting the chest down and sitting next to Rudeth, she got a rather mischievous smile. It wasn't like anyone but Jaymie and his friend were likely to walk in on them... Leaning over, she slowly turned Rudeth's head to face her and kissed him slowly.
Let's see how he reacts to THAT she though to herself contentedly. Maybe she did spend too much time with Zeph. This seemed a little more like something he had done to her... Oh well. It wasn't like Rudeth didn't deserve a good surprise.

Jaymie walked into the costume room at that moment, Aura in tow, just in time to see the last of Aritha's present.
He wasn't sure if he were late or early, but he couldn't suppress a little laugh.

Something heavy was being moved--the theatre props? They might have been in one of the costume rooms, or maybe the set workshop, but--
Rudeth felt Aritha's lips press to his and leaned into her. Whatever train of thought he had been on immediately abandoned, Rudeth deftly slid one hand in her long hair. He braced the other hand against the small of her back, pulling her closer.
Person sounds. Walking. Someone there. Might've been a problem... Rudeth would worry about that later.

Aura halted mid step, arms full with bags of assorted articles of clothing. Dunehelden apparently wasn't half as different from public high school as she had thought.
Aura smirked, looking back at Jaymie. "You didn't tell me it was one of those parties, Jaymie," she remarked wryly. "Really, you need to stop trying so hard. You're just not my type."

Aritha pulled away a little bit, looking at Jaymie. "There you are."
Turning back to Rudeth she kissed him again. "Open your eyes, silly. I have things for you."
Her toe gently tapped the chest she had kept hidden back here. After all, there were plenty of places to go sit and change. Not all of the chest was for Rudeth, but most of it was. There were one or two things for Aura to try as well.

Rudeth glanced up, his eyes flickering from Aritha to the other two. The boy he'd seen in passing, the girl...he didn't remember seeing her before. Aritha seemed to have been expecting them, however, which meant that she probably hadn't brought him backstage just so they could kiss.
"So what, what's going on?" he asked. Things for him? And...
Rudeth was getting a bad feeling about this.

Jaymie shoved Aura in the shoulder. "Go flirt with Aritha, then. Rudy seems like the threesome type," he smirked. Even from the total of like ten minutes in the past week or so I've seen him, that might be pretty accurate.
He dropped his bags on the floor and stepped over to look at Rudy. "So what are we working with here? Wow, that's different."

Aritha blinked. Even if Rudeth was that type, she most certainly was not. But very quickly she pushed that aside and picked up the chest, setting it on her lap and opening it. First came a rather medieval-appearing outfit, complete with matching red cape. "I seem to remember you wearing something like this... It's like a memory of a memory of a dream, but I remember the clothes perfectly."
She tilted her head to the side with a grin, "In fact, that's where my ball dress came from."

Rudeth grinned, running the soft red velvet through his fingers. The material was warm and thick, but not so heavy that it would have been difficult to maneuver in. The shirt was made of much lighter material; the sleeves billowed out at the shoulders then tapered at the wrists. The waistcoat was a thicker material, deep red to match the cloak, embroidered in intricate designs with gold thread. The breeches were simple and dark. The outfit was rounded out with a pair of leather boots that looked tall enough to reach his knees.
Rudeth slipped off to the changing room and slipped quickly between outfits. It was a complicated outfit, with several places that laced up and pieces that went over one another, but several years of theater had trained him in putting on strange costumes. He slipped the shirt on easily. The waistcoat was stiffer and a bit tight around his middle, though that might have been the point of the style. The breeches and the boots were relatively trouble-free, though the boots took a minute to lace. The cloak slipped easily around his shoulders, just barely brushing the ground. It was about as warm as he expected, and very soft.
He slipped back into the costume workshop, the cloak fluttering around his ankles. He grinned, flourishing slightly with the cloak. "So?" he asked. "What do you think?"

Aritha beamed at him, clapping her hands excitedly, "It's perfect! You look exactly like a brave knight at a banquet or something! I was afraid I'd gotten the colors wrong or something, but you look so perfect in it!"
She stood and twitched a couple small pieces of cloth better into place, standing back to admire the effect. Still smiling happily, she looked at Jaymie. "What do you think?"

Jaymie took a couple of steps back and kneeled down to watch, hands in his lap. "Nice. A little archaic for my personal tastes, but it suits him and it's well-executed."
"I think... yes. I want to see this." He grinned and dragged over one of the bags, dragging something out and tossing it at Rudeth. "Aritha gave me your measurements, but I'm not sure this will fit perfectly. We'll see."

Rudeth examined the outfit. It was a peculiar ensemble: the body of the shirt was in something like flannel but poofier, and the sleeves were decorated with embroidery of flowers and thorny vines and made of something smoother. The pants were trimmed in the same poofy purple lining as the shirt. Rudeth liked the first outfit much better, but he might as well try it on. It looked...comfortable, at least.
He shrugged. "Alright, be back in a second."
He returned a few moments later, handing the first outfit back to Aritha. "It's a little itchy," he commented, "and I feel kind of silly, but it fits fine."

Aritha took the first outfit and folded it carefully, smiling at Rudeth. She wasn't going to laugh, she wasn't going to laugh... Putting her hands to her mouth she lightly bit at her fingers. No, she wasn't going to laugh. It might offend Jaymie and Rudeth at once, and that wouldn't do at ALL.
Once she was reasonably certain she wasn't going to laugh the moment she opened her mouth, she smiled at Rudeth again, "It looks interesting. Very... bohemian."
Her eyes brightened and she dug through her little chest again, pulling out another outfit. This was definitely for a woman, though it wasn't a medieval dress either. It was a nice blouse, in a mid-light lavender color that rather complimented Aura's complexion. With it was a darker purple skirt with beading and a couple bells that rang softly as Aritha held the outfit out.
"Hmm... Well, hopefully I got the measurements right... It looks about right. I almost added a bow, but I doubt you would have appreciated that Aura," she said cheerfully, giving it to the other girl. "But at least you don't have to wear silly hats here, right?"

Aura grinned, running her fingers gently over the silky material. It felt light and breathable. It wasn't quite Aura's color, and she tended to prefer clothing that was less prone to getting snagged on things and being stepped on, but it looked like Aritha had taken her height into consideration with the skirt, which provided a significant advantage over store-bought clothing.
She returned from the other room quickly, spinning about in the skirt and making the bells jingle. It was comfortable, and short enough that she hadn't stepped on it. If only it were in something brighter -- green, maybe, or fuchsia -- it would be perfect.
"I like this," she replied happily. "Not something I'd usually wear, but it's nice."

"Hmm." Jaymie smiled. He didn't want this to be a competition, but he still felt like the score was 2-0 Aritha. The next one, though, should be easier given how well he knew Aura. He rustled around in another bag and brought out the next set: a long-sleeved black collared shirt with neon green and pink stamp-prints, and a black denim skirt with broad cross-stitching up one side in thick, equally-neon green and pink.
"Here you go. If you don't like the shirt, I'm modifying it and wearing it myself."

Aritha grinned at Jaymie, then dug through her little chest and pulled out an outfit that looked like it would fit perfectly back home. There were the patches Jaymie always seemed to have on his clothes, and it rather looked like it would fit right in with the rest of his wardrobe.
"I figured you should get something too, since everyone else did," she said cheerfully. The rest of the chest was for Rudeth. She was very good at fitting lots of clothes into small packs. She'd had sixteen years of experience packing, after all. "Since I don't know you very well yet, Aura, I mostly just guessed. I'll have something more specific next time."

Aura grinned, holding up Jaymie's outfit. "You have a very distinctive style, I gotta say," she replied. "If you ever get anything mass produced, I'll be able to spot it from a mile away."
Aura smiled back at Aritha. "It's just sweet of you to include me on the fun. I usually just get to try on Jaymie's clothes."
She smirked back at Jaymie. "Just you wait, though. I'm going to get some Power Rangers bedsheets and a stapler, and then I'll make you try on my creations."

Aritha smiled at her, "Well, it's only fair. Besides, I don't actually make clothes for other girls very often. Mostly because I only have some many people willing to actually put up with my fun. Zephyros has started to run away when he sees me with a new outfit, but then we've been friends since he was in elementary school."
She pulled out another outfit, something a little more modern and very much meant for Rudeth. The shirt was a dark purple to match his eyes, with simple dark blue pants that flared a little at the bottom. In careful detail on the back of the shirt, as a silk screen (It had taken bribery of Himmel to let her use that tool even though she wasn't actually currently in an art class) of a knight fighting a dragon in bright colorful detail. If one looked closely enough, they could see a hint of dark hair under the helmet, hair that perfectly matched Rudeth's own. THAT had taken Aritha forever, especially as it was far from her normal style of drawing.
"And something you can wear on an every day basis, Rudy," she smiled brightly, offering it to him.

Jaymie stared at Aura with a look of absolute horror. That was horrible enough in theory, but Aura might actually do that. He rubbed his eyes.
"Okay, but if I start bleeding during the process, I'm gluing that hat to your head." He looked up at the set Aritha had just pulled out and made an impressed little noise. "Nice work on the back."

Rudeth smiled, running his fingers lightly over screen-printing. "This is great," he replied. "Did you draw the design? That's... wow."
Rudeth wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, kissing her lightly on the cheek.

"I did and it took FOREVER," she said. Leaning into his embrace, she smiled at him and put her arm over his, turning to kiss him back. "Now go try it on. One of these days I'm going to get my knight into his shining armor. But for that, I will need Carmen's help."

"As my lady commands, so will I do." Rudeth grinned impishly, bowing with a slight flourish. He left quickly, and was back within moments.
Everything fit perfectly, like a second skin, soft and comfortable. "What do you think?" he asked, slipping his hands into hers. "I think this one's my favorite so far."

Aura stuck her tongue out and Jaymie, then took the opportunity to slip into the next room and change into Jaymie's outfit.
Aura pulled at the clothes, straightening them out slightly. They fit well -- Jaymie had made clothes for her often enough to know what adjustments to make to his designs -- and they were in perfect accordance with Aura's typical style.
"This one's a winner, I think," Aura proclaimed.
