Adler was a talkative young man once he got going. Nina had learned a lot in a short time-- about her mother, about Adler's schooling and his powers, about his search for her. She had learned the fate of the old snake charmer, who had led her to Haneul. She had told Adler her story, then: about her work in the circus, about the charmer and her running away, about Haneul (this part was kept to the essentials, as Nina sensed that Haneul somehow made Adler nervous. She purposefully left out the incident that had ruined her voice.)
The conversation had eventually worked its way to lighter topics, like Nina's previous years at Dunehelden and Adler's short experience as a TA here. Adler had mentioned one of his students, Kemekin, and Nina admitted to being his tutor. They had spoken on Kemekin for a bit, and Adler had let slip a particular tidbit of information that had sent Nina into a fury. Kemekin had, apparently, let slip a sentiment to Adler about Haneul-- something along the lines of Haneul needing to "stop pretending to be her father."
As Nina saw it, she owed Haneul her life several times over. She loved him as a sibling, a dedicated student. A daughter. Surely, a part of her tried to reason, surely Kemekin hadn't meant it-- he had been venting. Adler had misheard him. But if that one part of her was heard, it was ignored. The rest of her was frenzied, radiating the heat of a fury that had her storming out of the classroom Adler had taken her into. She burst out into the corridor and made her way to the English hallway with the measured, aggressively poised strides of a predator.
Ah, there it was.
Nina reached professor Yogo's classroom and pushed the door open without bothering to knock, or even peek inside to see if she would be interrupting anything. She had used much more force than was necessary-- the door slammed against the wall and bounced back-- it would have hit her if she had not stalked forward, moving right up to the desk at which Kemekin sat.
She didn't say a word. She merely reared back, her musculature tensing as a whole to put shoulder and body behind a punch to the mage's face. She heard more than felt her knuckles snap through the cartilage of his nose and glance off, cracking into one of his cheekbones. Following through with her other hand, she grabbed him by the crown of his scalp and pulled him sideways, out of his seat, before she knocked the desk back over on top of him.
The deed done, Nina turned on her heel and exited in those same eerie, measured strides as before, wiping Kemekin's blood from her hand off on her shirt.

Hoshi was used to students randomly barging into his classroom. He was hardly the most strict teacher in the school, and some students had a habit of taking advantage of his leniency. It was, for this reason, that Hoshi was hardly shocked when Nina Paem burst into his classroom.
What did shock him, however, was the full force with which the door slammed against the wall, and the sharp collision of her fist against the face of Kemekin Evans-Barros. Hoshi immediately leaped from his seat, too shocked to say anything. By the time his senses returned to him, Nina had already fled the scene of the crime.
Hoshi jumped over his desk, knocking several papers and a can of pencils into the floor in the process, and rushed to Kemekin's side.
"Kemekin, are you alright?" he asked calmly, taking a look over the injury. It was rather grotesque-looking; Nina had quite an arm, and she had clearly put her whole strength into the hit. Hoshi suppressed a slight shudder. He was generally fine with blood, but this was beyond what he was used to. "Do you think you can heal yourself?"

Kemekin made a strangled noise between a growl and a gurgle. The pain was intense-- and there was something inexplicably wrong about it. Hoshi's voice reached his ears fine, but he couldn't smell-- he tasted blood, he was pretty sure his nose had been bashed into two pieces, and he thought he felt something poking into the back of his eyeball. He felt gorge rise in his throat and he swallowed it down-- the action made his face move in an odd way. The sensation disgusted him; it was all he could do to keep calm and try to focus on his magic. His head went numb first-- that was a relief. Then his felt his tissues reforming and bonding together, broken blood vessels mending and cartilage and bone alike reshaped and smoothed out. His vision came back in full-- the lights from the ceiling seemed blindingly bright and he became immediately aware of the most horrendous migraine he had ever in his life witnessed.
Kemekin wiped the blood from his face and eyes and groaned.
"Oh my god. The fuck was that?" He kicked his legs out from under the desk Nina had pushed on top of him and wiped at his face again. "Hoshi, what the hell happened?!"

The sight of the flesh shifting and knitting back together was almost as sickening as the injury itself, but at least Kemekin was aware enough to heal himself, and he didn't seem to be showing any signs of a concussion.
Hoshi took a deep breath, sitting back on his ankles. "Your girlfriend just made a testament to her love all over your face," he said coolly. "If that wasn't her very special brand of breaking up with you, I'd suggest you end the relationship before your aunt does it for you."
He had every intention of tracking Nina down, wherever she had disappeared, and seeing that she received, if not the punishment such an act warranted, then at least as much as he was authorized to enforce.
"How are you feeling?" he asked softly. "How's your balance? Even if you've taken care of most of the healing, I think Ellie still needs to take a look at you immediately."

"I'm..." Kemekin sat upright and immediately knew that that was a bad idea. His migraine flared and he leaned forward, pressing his hands into the back of his head. He had hit the ground harder than he thought when Nina'd pushed him over. He saw stars for a moment, and when his vision cleared he looked up at Hoshi with a wince. "I don't know." He couldn't believe Nina would do this-- not to him, not to anyone. She truly hadn't seemed capable of doing something like this. Her expression had been so cold just before she'd hit him. And this was not a regular schoolyard fight kind of punch-- Nina had been trying to inflict a mass amount of damage. To him. For what reason? Frustrated, mad and confused, Kemekin pulled himself to his feet. He wobbled a bit, and grabbed Hoshi's shoulder for balance. He felt nauseated.
"Can I go to the bay now, then?" he asked, softly, his gaze kept on the floor for two reasons: first, the light made his head scream with pain; second, he didn't want Hoshi or the other kids in the room to see the tears that were beginning to sting the corners of his eyes. He didn't know if they were from the migraine or from the frustration, but he was ashamed of them nonetheless.

"Yeah, I'll walk you down," he said. Kemekin could hardly stand; there was no way Hoshi was going to let him walk down to the infirmary on his own. Ellie would kill him. He would have to deal with Nina after he'd gotten Kemekin safely to his aunt. Nina would be fine for a few more minutes.
He glanced around the room, picking out the first semi-responsible student he saw. "Tebryn, you're in charge until I get back," he announced. "I want everyone to work quietly on their end of the year projects until I come back, and if I hear report of otherwise, don't think I won't assign you detention."
Hoshi put one arm around Kemekin's shoulders, bracing him. "If you start wobbling too much, I'm going to carry you, but I'm going to let you try the less embarrassing way first."

Kemekin nodded and grimaced. He tried to lean as little as possible against Hoshi as they made their way out of the classroom, but found that the more he moved, the dizzier he got, and the more it was necessary to use the man to keep himself steady. He knew Nina was going to be in deep shit for this-- but, oddly enough, Kemekin didn't take any pleasure in knowing that. He just wanted his headache to go away so he could find Nina and ask her what the hell had driven her to do this. It was all very confusing.
As soon as this thought was completed, Kemekin revised the order. He wanted his headache healed, then he wanted a nap before tracking down Nina. He was exhausted, and he didn't know why-- his head throbbed and his limbs felt heavy, and everything seemed a bit darkter than normal. His vision tilted sideways, slowly, and Kemekin knew he was fainting but had no control to stop it.

It only took a split second for Hoshi to feel Kemekin wobble on his feet. He caught him effortlessly before he could hit the ground, and scooped him up in his arms. Kemekin was lighter than he expected, only a little bit heavier than Ellie, though that might have been partially because Kemekin was currently dead weight.
He was going to make certain that Nina was suitably punished for this. There was nothing, nothing that Kemekin could have done to warrant such a reaction, particularly not from his girlfriend.
Hoshi shifted the boy in his arms until he found a decent grip, then continued on to the infirmary.
