Rabe stood staring at the intimidating door of the Headmistress' office. Bolin wasn't kidding, you couldn't miss it. The door was very extravigant and large. Rabe shook her hands to keep her palms from sweating. She could always turn back . . . but that would mean being weak forever, and that was certainly NOT an option.
Rabe took in a deep breath and confidently knocked on the door six times.

Veronique peered up from her desk at the noise, her fingers hovering above her keyboard. The cursor blinked in and out mid-sentence. Veronique gritted her teeth and resumed typing, but before she could type a full word, there was that irritating noise again. Who dared to disturb her now? There was always something, some petty personal problem or other that someone expected her to deal with. Well, she would put an end to this.
Veronique rose from her seat and stalked across the room, flinging the door open. She stared imperiously at the intruder.
"I hope," she said icily, "that this is something important."

A flood of cursewords entered Rabe's head. She hadn't even said anything and she'd already screwed up. There was no hiding her fear now. She stared up at Veronique her with her large red-yellow eyes. She was staring at god!!! A mixture of anxiety and . . . was it happyness, anticipation? Rabe wasn't sure she just knew that underneath the fear she wanted to grovel at this womans feet and bask in her awsome. Rabe decided to feed on this feeling.
"This is rather important, Mistress." Rabe explained "I-I would like, no LOVE, to become your apprentice!" Rabe looked at the tall woman expectanly with a look of determination

The headmistress arched an eyebrow, her gaze skimming over the girl. "My apprentice," Veronique repeated. "You are aware, I am sure, that I do not typically teach students myself? What makes you come to me, instead of one of your other teachers?"

Rabe blinked. Was it not obvious? "Because you are the best, Ma'am," Rabe replied. "I wish to grow to my full potential and why wouldn't I want to learn from THE best Vampire at this school?"
Rabe was inner fangirling. The great Veronique did not turn her away right away!! This was a very good sign.

Veronique blinked. "Well, I certainly will not deny being the most powerful, most experienced vampire in the school," she said airily. "Everyone is aware of that."
She pressed her lips in a thin line and looked over the girl. She reminded Veronique much of herself at a young age... But the last time Veronique had taken in a young vampire, it had ended up sleeping on her couch, eating her out of house and home, and wasting all her money on useless junk. And then had the nerve to complain about it.
Of course, Himmel was a lost cause from the beginning, really. Even Veronique could only do so much with...that. Maybe this one she had caught early enough.
"Very well. Have a seat and we will discuss the possibility of tutoring." She stepped aside to give the girl room to enter.

Hell friggin Yes!!! "Thank you very much, Mistress,"Rabe said as she gracefully entered the room. She took in a sharp breath. So, this was where her new Mistress/Ruler/god resided. Rabe quickly took in the elegance of her surroundings. She daintily stood in front of the chair on the outer side of Veronique's desk and waited to be asked to sit. She didn't want to be rude.

Veronique swept past Rabe, taking her seat at the desk in front of the girl. She braced herself against the desk, scrutinizing the girl with burning red eyes.
The room was decorated entirely deep violet, from the color of the walls to the collection of glass baubles along the shelves. On the corner of her desk, a tiny glass butterfly hovered, fluttering its wings slowly. Behind Veronique hung a life-size painting of herself in an elaborate gown; it was an astounding likeness, even if the face looked much kinder than the headmistress had ever dreamed of looking.
"Have a seat," she commanded, waving her hand. "Tell me, girl, what is your name?"

Rabe gracefully sat down and returned Veronique's gaze with her crimson-yellow eyes. She was not going to be a weakling, she would show her new Teacher how determined she was.
"My name is Rabe, Rabe Schwarzsflugel. I am a highschool senior," Rabe replied her voice very careful and precise.

Schwarzsflugel? Veronique wrinkled her nose. It was just her luck that she would be another German. Still, she could hardly be worse than Himmel.
She sighed. "Very well, Rabe. What is your power?" Her eyes narrowed. "Surely you have one, yes?"

"Yes, I do have a power," Rabe explained, "I have limitied control over the power of persuasion. When a person looks into my eyes I can tell them what to do and they'll do it . . . to an extent that is. I can usually make people leave me alone or the opposite." Rabe smirked and muttered, "usually the opposite."

Veronique's lips spread in a slow smirk, her dark eyes narrow. "And you would like me to train you use your powers more effectively, would you not?"

Rabe nodded earnestly. "Yes, very much so, Miss." Rabe contimplated and decided to tell her Mistress her desire. "I-I want more than anything to make all men . . . my slaves." Rabe couldn't help but smirk as she said the last part.

Veronique's eyebrow arched high on her forehead, and she gave the girl a cold smirk. "Ensnaring the mind and bewitching the heart are two very separate skills, girl," she said, her voice almost a purr. "Imposing your will on others will not make them love you. It will make them fear you. Obey you. Worship you, grovel at your feet... But never love you. Whatever emotions you inspire through the use of your powers, they are but illusions."
The headmistress' dark eyes glinted in the dim light, and she held out a hand to the glass butterfly, a gift from one of her students. The figurine floated toward her, hovering in her hand. "Like this butterfly, however much it may look like the real thing, it can never compare."
Veronique returned the butterfly to its perch on her desk, hovering above the polished wood. "With that little disclaimer in mind, if you are ready to begin, I will teach you to use your powers." Her smirk spread, until Veronique looked much like a predator baring her fangs. "In order to command others, your will must be strong. I am going to force you to do something, and you are going to fight me. When you have mastered this, we will move on to commanding others."

Rabe grew cold, colder than usual. She had never really thought of love. All that she had thought about was being praised and admired. To give the orders and be Obeyed instead of the groveling one. Rabe's eyes grew as cold as the rest of her. She had never felt so determined in her life. She would probably fail the first time, but who didn't.
"I believe I am ready," she smirked, "even though it's my first time, don't hold back. I don't want to be treated like the weakling I probably am."

Veronique chuckled lowly to herself. "I appreciate a humble student," she mused. "It makes the process much easier."
Veronique closed her eyes for a moment, clearing her mind. She had intended to go a bit easier on the girl, but since she insisted on feeling the full force of Veronique's power, she would not disappoint the girl. She focused all of her energy on the young woman in front of her, her will like iron.
She opened her eyes and stared straight into Rabe's. Her crimson eyes seemed to almost glow with the power. She didn't speak the command, but she hardly needed to.
Stand.

Rabe braced herself and then . . . God, the impact was POWERFULL!!! She tried to fight the urge to stand. She gripped the arms of the plush purple chair she was seated in and tensed all of her muscles. She commanded herself to sit and to stay.
She struggled for about, oh, 30 seconds before her hands slipped from the chair's arms and she rocketed to her feet. Rabe cursed beneath her breath. Why was she so weak?

Veronique's eyes met Rabe's, and the clash of will was like iron against wood. Rabe was by no means weak, but she was nothing against Veronique.
"Thirty-six seconds," Veronique mused, her long nail trailing over her lower lip. "Not horrible, but you can do better than that. Let's try something a bit more complicated, shall we?"
Again, Veronique's eyes met Rabe's. Her eyes flickered to a glass ornament on her shelf, a colorful little sprite from some video game Himmel had obsessed over years ago, with big blue eyes and a floppy green hat that was as long as the creature's body.
"Break it," she commanded.

Rabe did her best to hold back a curse from her lips as another wave of power washed over her. She gritted her teeth as her right foot slowly dragged across the dark stone floor. She felt so weak, so defenseless. This was not good.
Rabe turned the full intensity of her eyes onto Veronique. She mentally and physically screamed, "STOP IT!!!!" Rabe released all of her energy to pushing back against this lead wall of power. Her vision became fuzzy and then suddenly everything went black.

Rabe began to sway on her feet, and her eyelids fluttered slightly as her eyes rolled back in her head. In a matter of seconds, the headmistress crossed in front of the desk and caught the girl by her shoulders before she could fall to the ground.
"Not bad," she murmured, peering down at the girl. "Not bad at all."
The headmistress hoisted the girl into the adjoining room behind her office--Veronique's personal break room which more often served as Himmel's game room--and lay her on the sofa. She wouldn't need healing; physically, she was fine. She'd overextended her abilities by fighting off a stronger opponent, but in time, she would become stronger.
And, when the girl woke up, Veronique would teach her the finer points of writing romance novels. She wondered if she still had those Mercedes Lackey books lying around somewhere... That should be a good starting point. Or maybe some Ann Rice.

Rabe slowly came back into consciousness. What the hell had happened?? Rabe sat up in a start. The room was dark but at least whatever she laid on was comfy. Rabe could make out a few . . . were those game controllers? Rabe rubbed her head, she could feel a headache coming on.
"H-Hello?" Rabe called out, finally finding her voice, "Anybody there?"

Veronique glanced over at the girl. She had only been out for a few minutes, just enough time for Veronique to become engrossed in an episode of All My Kindred--a very interesting vampire soap opera that had begun airing recently, though Veronique personally preferred Days of Our Unlives, or the hit mage drama Obfuscated which centered around the adventures of a group of mages who accidentally teleported themselves to a place where magic didn't work.
"You passed out," Veronique commented, waving her hand dismissively. "We will discuss your abilities more when my program is over."
She shifted forward in the chair, her hands gripping the arms of her chair. "Damn it, Victor, Iolanthe doesn't love you!" she howled. "You and Solomon are perfect for each other! That whore is only after your money!"

Iolanthe? Victor and Solomon? Rabe jumped up and dashed over behind Veronique's chair. OH MY GOD!! She loved this soap. She hadn't been able to watch it recently for schooling reasons. "Victor, quit being a whiny ass and confess your love to Solomon already!!" Rabe couldn't keep herself from shouting at the TV.
After her outburst she glanced down at Veronique a little embarrassed. "I-I'm sorry, I'll just sit her and shut up and watch now," She mumbled quietly as she sat on the floor next to her Tutor's chair and watched with anticipation.

"You follow All My Kindred?" Veronique raised an eyebrow curiously. It seemed she had more in common with the girl that she had initially believed. She could certainly work with her.
"Since you're already exhausted yourself, we will resume perfecting your powers tomorrow." She glanced back over her shoulder at Rabe as the commercials came onto the screen. "For now, I have some very important training for you. We start with All My Kindred, then we will watch Days of Our Unlives. After that, I will teach you the finer points of writing fan fiction."

Rabe nodded and said with a smirk, "I've written fan fiction before, I've been told that they were good." Rabe flipped her dark hair out of her face. "I can make you some copies if you so desire."
By that time the commercials had ended and the show continued. Rabe turned all of her attention back to the TV. Oohh, a sex scene. :3
