Ellie had woken up just as the sun was rising-- either she had been prompted from sleep by a dream she didn't remember, or she had fallen asleep earlier than she had planned to, but she wasn't going to stay in bed. She felt the odd urge to exercise, even after spending most of the day before on her feet (an excursion than had left her skin visibly tanned where it had been exposed.) So she grabbed a towel, dove into her suitcase for a bathing suit, scrawled a note for the two girls which was left on the little table between the two beds, and headed down to the indoor pool. The hours on a plaque by the door said that the indoor was open from six a.m. to ten p.m. It was barely six fifteen.
Ellie entered the empty room and approached the edge of the pool, which was lined with little tiles-- most of them white, though there were stretches of hazel-yellow and a rather crystalline shade of green. Ellie smiled and dipped her toes into the water and, finding it to be a pleasant temperature, slipped neatly into the pool. She pushed off from the edge with her feet and swam a few brisk laps before her strokes fell into a smooth, steady rhythm, her hair trailing in waves behind her as she swam.

Diana had found herself awake at an utterly ungodly hour and quite unable to get back to sleep again. She had stayed in bed beside the still-sleeping Vincent for a while, reading by flashlight until the sun began to rise and her flashlight's battery died. She wasn't the least bit tired, or inclined to stay in the room for much longer. She'd seen there was a pool in the hotel; perhaps a swim would wear her out. She changed quietly into her bathing suit, grabbed a towel and a pair of nose-plugs, wrote a quick note for Vincent and Ariel, then kissed Vincent's cheek and tiptoed out of the room and down to the pool.
Diana's nose was immediately assaulted by the smell of chlorine as she stepped into the room, and she quickly put her nose-plugs in. Much better. Looking around, she noticed that there was already someone there, swimming laps around the pool. Diana set her towel down on a chair several feet from the edge of the pool, then walked over to the diving boards, climbing the steps up to the higher one. She stood with her toes curled over the end of the board, bouncing up and down a little before jumping up and swan-diving neatly into the water.

Ellie felt the disturbance in the water before she saw the other person. She reached the deep end of the pool and stopped, treading water. She pushed her curls back out of her face and waited for the other swimmer to surface.
Seeing Diana, she laughed. She splashed her friend to get her attention and beamed, chirruping brightly, "Good morning, Di."

Diana surfaced smoothly, pushing her hair out of her eyes only to be met with a splash of water to the face. Gasping softly, she blinked the water out of her eyes and saw Ellie beaming at her.
Good morning yourself, she signed with a grin. I'd hoped I wasn't the only one up at this hour. I've been awake since four, but I couldn't do much for fear of waking Vincent and Ariel. I did finish re-reading Oliver Twist, though. By flashlight.
