Diana knocked lightly on Veronique's door and stood back, waiting patiently to be acknowledged. Hopefully Veronique was in her office and not busy... with the wedding getting closer all the time, there was less and less time available to get everything arranged.

Veronique scrawled out another sentence on the elaborate stationary, gritting her teeth. Veronique hated writing on paper, possibly because she was so accustomed to typing now. Not having a backspace key was starting to fray at her nerves, particularly when she was trying to write in Korean. Damn Seraph.
Eventually she planned to convince him the perks of computers and the internet, but for now he was rather stubbornly sticking to paper correspondence. It was even more of a pain at Dunehelden, since getting and receiving mail meant sending someone to her PO box all the way in Sacramento. Fortunately, the post office employees had at least stopped asking nosy questions like "Why does your mail keep ticking?" and "Is it supposed to be glowing like that?" and "Why is that package screaming for help?" Veronique really hated it when people were unnecessarily nosy.
Veronique glanced up at the sound of the door, somewhat thankful for the interruption. Veronique buzzed open the door and waved in the visitor. Maybe she would get lucky and need to give some unlucky student detention. Or maybe it was Himmel back with her coffee.

Diana smiled and entered the office, stepping up to Veronique's desk and signing to her. The Headmaster looked as though she was busy with something; best to keep this brief.
Good afternoon, Veronique. I hope I'm not interrupting anything vital. I have a favor to ask of you.

Veronique didn't speak to Diana terribly often, mostly because it was so much easier to just send notes to her staff or have Smoke or Rivienne deliver news, since they were much less prone to argue that way. But Veronique had seen Diana speak sign language to the other teachers, and she'd picked up a few things from Smoke, and was reasonably confident in her own abilities. After all, how hard could it be?
I am writing a cookie, but I hate socks. How are you? Veronique grinned. She didn't understand what was so hard about this language, other than how stupid it looked. She was a natural.

Diana smiled and nodded, more to hide her confusion than anything else at this point. It wasn't too difficult to piece together what Veronique had meant to sign; a quick glance at the contents of the desk told Diana that "letter" was the ideal substitute for "cookie". She decided to politely ignore the socks.
More and more excited for my wedding every day, she signed cheerfully. Speaking of which, I came to ask you if you would be our Master of Ceremonies. Vincent and I would be honored.

Veronique raised an eyebrow. Thank you, but I do not think I would be a good maid of honor for your husband, she replied loftily. You will have to find another dentist for it, but I would be happy to do something else instead.
Well, of course Veronique would be the first choice for maid of honor -- it was only fitting -- but Veronique was well aware that she would overshadow the bride, and she could never have that. Besides, Veronique had no intention of being a bridesmaid, though it was more the principle of the matter than anything.
Really, the language was painfully easy. She didn't understand what the big deal was.

Diana smiled, blushing a little as she shook her head. You misunderstand me. Ariel is going to be my maid of honor. I'm asking you to be the Master of Ceremonies.
If this confusion was kept up much longer, Diana decided, she'd just write out what she wanted to say and be done with it. If only she'd thought of it in the first place.

Well, I personally wouldn't recommend Aramis to be your maid of honor, but if you're certain. Veronique shrugged. If she really wanted that, then Veronique supposed it wasn't her decision to make. I would be happy to be MC for your wedding, if that is what you want.

Diana grinned in relief, thankful that her point had finally gotten across. Thank you very much. I'll tell Vincent as soon as I see him. I'll leave you to your work, she added, taking a step backward toward the door.
