Vincent was trying to be calm, he really was. The warm summer air in the courtyard was buzzing with anticipation. The guests were all seated, and Vincent, Bolin and Smoke were waiting at the altar for the rest of the wedding party. Vincent's heart was beating so quickly it almost hurt; he breathed slowly and deeply, attempting to relax. Any minute now, Ian and Natalie would lead the processional up the aisle. Any minute.
His anxious, expectant smile widened into a grin as the music swelled, and the wedding party came slowly up the aisle between the rows of seats, all looking splendid; the bridesmaids and groomsmen came in matching pairs, all of them beaming as they took their places. Next came the ringbearer and the flower girl, side by side; Ariel on her own, looking beautiful in a dark blue dress that matched those of the bridesmaids. But as grand as this was, it would not be complete without the bride.

Diana adjusted her grip on the bouquet of roses and liles in her hands, watching as the other members of the wedding party made their way up the aisle toward the altar, where Vincent, Bolin and Smoke were waiting. A flock of butterflies seemed to have taken up residence in her stomach, and her heart was fluttering just as much. This was the beginning of the rest of her life -- a life bound together with Vincent's, for better or for worse.
She stepped forward, making her own way up the aisle, smiling back at the crowd of witnesses as they beamed at her. She kept her eyes mostly to the fore, seeing Vincent's excited smile and grinning right back at him. He looked about as joyful and nervous (but warm-footed) as she was, and that was oddly comforting. At least she wasn't alone in her feelings.
She came to Vincent's side at last, willing herself to be calm as she tucked her bouquet carefully in the crook of one arm to free her hands for signing. This was no time for trembling hands and stuttered vows. Taking a deep breath, she turned toward Smoke as Vincent did the same beside her, both waiting for him to speak.

Smoke stood grandly behind the podium, looking over the group, in a dark blue suit just subdued enough not to show up the bride and groom. The crowd was mostly students, since much of the faculty was in the wedding party; having little else to do, and with two such beloved teachers having a party, it seemed the majority of them had piled out into the courtyard. Most of the rest, he would place good odds, would be around for the reception.
Diana looked amazing, a strange flowery light surrounding her- how a light could be flowery, it was probably better not to ask- and it seemed almost like the castle itself had conspired to make this day more special, in its own strange way. He had to keep from grinning conspiratorially at her, or at Vincent, or at half a dozen other people in the crowd.
"What a fantastic day for a wedding!" he began speaking, improving a little before his planned speech. "The sky is white, it almost looks like the sun is in the sky- our dear friends here have chosen to have Arcadia for their wedding, the place where they met, the place they've lived every spring and every autumn for at least three years- and in turn, Arcadia itself has turned out its finery for their benefit. Wonderful! And who could deserve it more?"
"But I don't want to go on about the sky," he continued. "This has been a long time coming, and I'm sure everyone here is eager to skip to the kiss the bride scene, followed by whatever altar to the gods of sugar-comas Rhythan has summoned for us today. There will be plenty of time for lines of friends congratulating you at the reception, presents stacked three and four high, and the reminiscing can wait until you two rack up a few anniversaries. For now, let's go with this:"
""You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes, to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making commitments in an informal way. All of those conversations that were held in a car, or over a meal, or during long walks – all those conversations that began with, “When we’re married”, and continued with “I will” and “you will” and “we will” – all those late night talks that included “someday” and “somehow” and “maybe” – and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding."
"The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “You know all those things that we’ve promised, and hoped, and dreamed – well, I meant it all, every word.”"
"Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another – acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, even teacher, for you have learned much from one another these past few years. Shortly you shall say a few words that will take you across a threshold of life, and things between you will never quite be the same."
"For after today you shall say to the world –
This is my husband. This is my wife.""
He beamed at the happy couple. "Now, I believe the two of you have vows to recite?"

Vincent grinned all the way through Smoke's speech, nodding when the question of vows was raised. This was the moment he'd been dreaming of for the past three years. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly, allowing himself a moment of regret that his brother wasn't here to share this with him. Hopefully someone was recording this somehow for memory's sake.
Turning to Diana, he kept his eyes on her face, speaking his vows slowly and clearly enough for her to read his lips, and loudly enough for the courtyard to hear.
"I, Vincent, take you, Diana, to be my wedded wife. I vow to love, honor and cherish you in good times and bad, whether we are rich or poor, whether you are in human or wolf form. I will be honest, faithful and loyal to you, and keep myself only for you, forsaking all others, as long as we both shall live. With this ring, I thee wed."
He took a ring from Hitoshi and held it in one hand, taking Diana's hand in the other and sliding the ring onto her finger. It was a simple golden band, engraved with the words "I will love you" in small, flowing script. The ring Diana would give to him held the other half of the phrase.
He squeezed Diana's hand briefly before releasing it, waiting to see her sign her vows in return.

Diana's soft, blissful smile widened as Vincent slid the ring onto her finger. It glittered in the almost-light from the white sky above them, and the words on the band seemed to shimmer a little. She lifted her eyes to Vincent's face as he let go of her hand, and carefully signed out her vows to him, trusting her interpreter to make the message clear to those who didn't understand ASL.
I, Diana, take you, Vincent, to be my wedded husband. I vow to love, honor and cherish you in good times and bad, whether we are rich or poor, whether you win or lose when battling the dangers of this world. I will be honest, faithful and loyal to you, and keep myself only for you, forsaking all others, as long as we both shall live. With this ring, I thee wed.[/color]
She took the other ring that Hitoshi held, placing it carefully onto Vincent's finger. The words "Until the end of time" shimmered on the golden band with the same strange light as the words on her own ring. She wasn't sure if that was real, or some kind of magic working temporarily for dramatic effect. Either way, the effect was pleasing.
She looked at Smoke again, her hand closing gently around Vincent's, patiently awaiting the official pronouncement of their union.

Smoke spread his arms wide, and the light shifted, splitting into a soft rainbow of colors.
"Then, by the power vested in me by the internet, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Have at it!"

Vincent watched happily as the light around them turned into rainbows, then returned his eyes to his bride as he took her into his arms, mentally replying to Smoke. Gladly, good sir.
He pulled Diana close against him, closing his eyes and kissing her with unbridled love and passion. The delighted applause of the watching crowd, the taste of Diana's mouth, the knowledge that this was the threshold of forever, flooded his ears and mouth and heart like a beautiful, beautiful avalanche. It didn't get any better than this.

Diana pressed into the kiss and returned Vincent's joy and passion, losing herself in the sheer bliss of the moment. Nothing would ever be the same again; it would be better, she knew, much better. The love that had held them together until this moment would continue to hold them as the years passed. Whatever happened from now on, for good or bad, they had each other to share it with.
They parted and gazed into each other's eyes again, and each knew that the other was surely glowing as much as they. Together they gazed out at the crowd of beaming, cheering, applauding people who had gathered to share in their moment of joy, to welcome them into a new life together. Never before had either of them felt so loved.

Jason was proud to say he'd done a pretty good job of keeping his emotions in check during the ceremony. But as the two professors sealed their vows with a passionate kiss, he couldn't help the tears that sprang to his eyes and trickled softly down his face. A happy ending was a beautiful thing, and a glorious new beginning was even better. He clapped so hard his hands were stinging, not bothering to stop and wipe away his tears yet. He'd do that once the hubbub died down.

Ariel cheered and clapped as enthusiastically as any of them, grinning so hard her face was starting to hurt. Everything was going perfectly -- even more perfectly than any of them had hoped. She'd never seen her father or now-stepmother so happy before; they were both practically glowing with joy. Or maybe that was a weird trick of the light. In any case, nothing could possibly go wrong now.

Sa'id clapped along with the rest. He'd felt a little embarrassed walking up in front of everyone in a stuffy and slightly odd-looking suit, but no one had really been looking in that direction anyway (except possibly the boy who'd fitted the suits, and then only briefly).
The important bit was that Diana was clearly enjoying every minute of this, as she should be.

Jaebi's smile was so huge that his eyes had reduced to slits. In Dunehelden's odd half-twilight, the bride and groom appeared as their own stars, aglow against the dusky sky.
Meet me where the sunshine ends, he thought suddenly to himself. The song was coming together in his head to an odd beat that he found in the applause. The rhythm ran together with his own heartbeat, the way a light breeze ruffled Diana's hair. It was in the curves of the smiles of the congregation, some of their faces glistening with happy tears.
Meet me where the sunshine ends; where you and I belong.

"Now let's get to the cake and presents- today's been so hectic I forgot breakfast."

Vincent laughed along with the rest of the crowd. "There will be dinner, you know. But make sure you do save room for cake!"
Beaming, he turned and walked back up the aisle beside Diana, his hand in hers, leading the rest of the wedding party as the crowd around them cheered and clapped again, all of them getting to their feet. Everything was going down without a hitch; it was truly a perfect day.
"Supper is at six in the mess hall," he announced. "I hope to see you all there!"
