Vincent adjusted the volume on his iPod, letting the music blare out through the speakers. It was set to Shuffle, which always proved interesting; he never knew what song would start playing next.
He moved back to the shelves on the opposite wall, taking down boxes full of folders and sorting through them, all the while singing joyfully along with the music that was playing. Right now it was a song from Wicked; he hummed along with Elphaba's part of the duet and belted out Fiyero's. This song reminded him so much of himself and Diana, and he thought of her as he sang.
"Maybe I'm brainless, Maybe I'm wise, But you've got me seeing Through different eyes; Somehow I've fallen Under your spell, And somehow I'm feeling It's up that I fell..."

SaeRyun had been looking over the list of possible play ideas that he had been making to turn into Professor Smoke over the summer, when something caught his attention. He paused and looked around the hall.
He closed his eyes and listened, Ahhh, Wicked. A smile spread across Sae's features as he quickly followed the sound of the music. He found himself in front of the choir room. There was a man inside, a teacher from the looks of it, singing Fiyero's part. SaeRyun's smile grew wider, wondering if it would be alright for him to join. He changed his voice to that of a female music teacher he had listened to as a child.
When it came time for Elphaba and Fiyero to sing togehter, Sae took a step into the room and sang in the voice of his music teacher:
"EVERY MOMENT AS LONG AS YOU'RE MINE I'LL WAKE UP MY BODY AND MAKE UP FOR LOST TIME..."

Vincent looked up at the sound of a woman's voice joining his, delighted to have a singing partner. It wasn't a voice he recognized, and even stranger was the sight of not a woman, but a man standing in the doorway, singing along with him. He brushed off the oddity in moments; stranger things had happened.
Grinning and giving the man a nod of greeting, Vincent sang out the next few lines of the song, leading into the next part they would share.
"Say there's no future For us as a pair, And though I may know, I don't care..."

SaeRyun made a deep flourishing bow in greeting and continued:
" AND THOUGH I MAY KNOW I DON'T CARE …
JUST FOR THIS MOMENT AS LONG AS YOU'RE MINE COME BE HOW YOU WANT TO AND SEE HOW BRIGHT WE SHINE BORROW THE MOONLIGHT UNTIL IT IS THROUGH AND KNOW I'LL BE HERE HOLDING YOU AS LONG AS YOU'RE MINE..."
After this SaeRyun changed his voice back to the one he usually used, the one of his old theatre teacher and chuckled. "Sorry for intruding," he said, "but I just couldn't resist joining you."

Vincent gleefully finished the duet along with the other man, still grinning once the song was over. He darted over to his iPod and turned the volume down, the better to hear him, then returned to his previous place.
"Not a problem, my good man!" he replied lightly, waving aside the man's apology. "You hit those high notes extremely well. But I don't believe we've met before. Vincent Hawk, music professor, at your service," he said, holding out a hand.

"No, we haven't, Professor," SaeRyun said stepping forward to shake the teacher's hand, "I'm SaeRyun Rim, I'm assisting Smoke in the Theatre department." He smiled at Vincent, "So, you're the magnificent Choir teacher I've heard about. It's a pleasure to meet you."
SaeRyun glanced around the room. Boxes were opened others weren't and the room seemed to be in a bit of diisorder. "Would you like some assistance?" he inquired.

Vincent nodded, grinning. "Ah! Yes, I've heard Smoke mention you. The pleasure is mine." He followed SaeRyun's gaze around the room, his smile growing slightly sheepish.
"Some assistance would be very much appreciated, if you have the time to spare. I've left my spring cleaning a bit late this year, but then I've had a lot of other things to focus on these days." Like his proposal and upcoming wedding to Diana, the latter of which could not come fast enough. Was it still really weeks away? April seemed to be dragging on and on.

SaeRyun nodded, "I have plenty of time." He had actually done all the work Smoke had asked of him in record time. Being exceedingly organized and just a bit OCD seemed to be in Sae's favor.
"I know the feeling of having too much to do and too little time to do it in," SaeRyun said picking up a small box. "What exactly do you need me to do?" he asked, very much wanting to help a fellow lover of the creative arts.

Vincent smiled, looking through the contents of another open box. "Some of these booklets have gotten mixed up and misplaced; they'll need to be straightened out and alphabetized. Most of them should be in the right order, even roughly, but every so often you'll find one that's wildly out of place. Like you," he said to a booklet as he pulled it out of its box. "You belong with 'Cats', not 'Wicked'."
He tucked the booklet away in its proper place, grinning up at SaeRyun. "Yes, on occasion I have been known to speak to inanimate objects."

SaeRyun smiled fondly at Vincent. He kind of reminded Sae of his old theatre teacher, always positive and looking forward. Or atleast that was his first impression.
Sae picked up a box and quickly began sorting through the booklets. "I only speak to inanimate objects when I can't find them," Sae replied, "For example I swore that my book of Shakespearian Sonnets was hiding from me this morning." He chuckled lightly and noticed a booklet at the bottom of the box.
"Ah," Sae said in recognition, "The Phantom of the Opera, I always loved that production." He then began to humm, the opening theme.

Vincent chuckled and nodded, cotninuing to sort through his own box. He beamed at SaeRyun at the sound of the tune the man was humming. "You're humming my song."
Oh, how he loved that musical. The darkness, the mystery, the passion and pain... It was thrilling. Yes, the male lead was deranged and homicidal, but all he wanted was to be loved. Even his own mother had hated and feared him; it was little wonder he grew up to be so twisted. And he did show mercy, in the end... he ultimately let go of the woman he had loved so passionately.
Much like himself, Vincent thought, remembering his own Christine. He had not killed for love of his first wife, but he had loved her truly, deeply, and in the end he had helped to ease her passing without regret or bitterness. And she lived on still, somehow, reflected in Ariel. And Vincent's wound had closed, he had found love again. True, passionate love for someone who could not be more different than Christine.
He blinked, returning suddenly to the present and smiling sheepishly as he returned to his work. Strange how the mind wandered so quickly from one train of thought to the next.

"Your song?" SaeRyun inquired with a smile, "There sounds like a story behind that one."
He closed the box, finished and proceeded to pick up the next one. "I personally prefer 'All I Ask of You' and . . . " he paused tapping one of the booklets against the side of the box. After a few moments he made a frustrated sound, "I can never remember the name of that one song." He looked at Vincent, "Oh, you would probably know it, the one during the Masque."

Vincent grinned. "I think you mean 'Why So Silent', or perhaps 'Masquerade'. I do love 'All I Ask of You'; I proposed to my dearly departed first wife with that one." He gave a brief, fond smile. "That was a long time ago. It ties in to the story behind 'my song' as well.
"I've always been a bit of a Phantom fanatic; I read the books, saw the musical, performed the musical, bought the film..." He chuckled. "I met my first wife in high school, and we fell in love on the set of a college production, when I was nineteen and she was twenty. I was cast as Erik, and she appropriately played her namesake, Christine. I sang every song for her.
"We married a few years later, and a few weeks into our marriage I was burned in a bad cooking accident. I took to wearing a Phantom-esque mask to cover it up, and everyone took to calling me Erik because of it. It was only recently that I finally stopped wearing the mask for good -- ironically enough, that was after I was scarred again during a fight. That's an entirely different story."

SaeRyun paused from his work to listen to the professor's story. He smiled in rememberance of his first love. "I understand the feeling. I too fell in love through theatre," he sighed and continued, "But that was a good sixty years ago."
He went back to sorting booklets. "I'm sorry to hear about your wife and your accident," he said in a heartfelt tone. "I know we've just met, but I can be of any assistance, don't hesitate to let me know."

Vincent smiled. "Thank you. I appreciate that."
He went back to sorting through folders, changing the subject a little as he did so. "But, roads go ever on and on, and so does time. That was almost sixteen years ago, and I've quite moved on; I'm happily engaged again, and going to be married in a matter of weeks. Unfortunately the preparations for that have been cutting into the time I'd otherwise be spending doing everything else. But it's well worth it."
He closed his box and moved on to another, humming along to the song that was now playing faintly on his iPod. It sounded like something from the Lord of the Rings musical.

SaeRyun nodded. "Time can be evil like that. Never stopping and forcing people to continue forward. . . Or, rather, it can be seen as evil, only few can view it for what it really is, a gift. The ability to know that no matter what has happened in the past, the future can always be changed," his voice trailed off.
A grusome image from his own past flashed before his eyes. He looked down at his hands, the box was gone and replaced with blood. His body went weak for a moment. The thunk of the box falling from his hands to the floor snapped him back to reality. "Oh," Sae said, shaking his head, in an attempt to clear it, "sorry, I'm not usually clumsy."
He bent down and retrieved the box. "Oh, congratulations on your upcoming wedding, Professor," he said turning to Vincent with a smile, "May it be happier than the first and continue to be a blessing."

Vincent, who had moved to catch the falling box and not been quite fast enough, returned SaeRyun's cheerful smile. "Thank you very much. That is my hope as well." However short his first wedding had been, it had given him joy and blessings beyond reckoning.
He continued sorting through the remaining boxes, while his iPod shuffled through the soundtracks of a few dozen varied musicals. Vincent smiled as he finally put the last box back in its place on the shelf and turned back to SaeRyun. That hadn't taken long at all, between the two of them.
"That's the last of them. Thank you again for your help. Is there something I can do for you?"

SaeRyun shook his head, "No, not at all, sir." Then a thought struck him. "Actually, I'm trying to see if Professor Smoke would be willing to put on a musical sometime next year. If you would like to assist in any of the theatre productions, I would personally appreciate it," he explained, "I'm technically not supposed to be helping out till next school year, but I decided to come early, to get my bearings and to meet my fellow comrades." He smiled. "I'm looking forward to teaching here."

Vincent looked at him in utter delight. "Would I like to help with a musical? That's like asking if Shakespeare is well-known," he laughed. "A definite yes, my good man. I've done so in past years, past productions, and I've always enjoyed it. I hope you like it here. It can be hectic, sometimes dangerous, but somehow it all feels worth it."

"I wouldn't want to assume or impose on your time, sir," SaeRyun said with a smile, "But I'm glad that you are willing to help."
He quickly retrieved a small spiral bound pad of paper from his back pocket and flipped through it. "I do believe we will be performing Dr. Faustus first in the fall semester followed by the musical Rent," he said tapping the paper with his finger and nodding.
He looked up at Vincent and smiled, "I'm sure it will be worth while. I'm doing and teaching what I love, Theatre, and that will always be invaluable."

"Glorious," Vincent grinned. "I don't think I've read or seen Faustus, but I am familiar with Rent. I completely understand your love of Theater -- I feel exactly the same way about Music." And having gained music-centered magic on top of that only added to the wonder of it. Music had always been a part of him, a way of life, but now there was so much more he could do with his voice that he could only dream of in years past.

SaeRyun smiled knowingly. "I love music as well, I just don't know much about it. I can sing and play the piano but that's where my musical skills come to an end," he explained, "So, I'm very glad that you are so enthusiastic to hlep out with the musical."
He reached out his hand to shake Vincent's as a good bye. "I hope together we can broaden the students' horizons and expose them to the wonderfull world of the arts," he said excitedly, "I'll definately send you a propper theatre schedule when I print one up. And please, feel free to call me Sae."

"The pleasure was mine, Professor," Sae said with a nod, "And I can assure you that we will see eachother again. One of the many things a life in the theatre has taught me is that people who share a similar passion usually are only a few steps away."
As Sae turned to leave he couldn't help but smile. Yes, this was going to be an excelent new life.
