Chris sat cross-legged in the middle of the hallway, rubbing a fresh lump on the side of her head through her hair. She remembered seeing a blur of blue rush past her, then she was on the floor.
The contents of her backpack were splayed around her. It was a good thing she hadn't had her laptop with her that morning. Otherwise someone would be on her kill list.
Blue. She thought she'd heard someone say something, too. Something aimed at her. A curse word? She knew who had knocked her over. And she suspected why. But she didn't know how long she had been out. It couldn't have been more than a few minutes though, surely. She had been on her way to lunch. Or was it dinner? She had been heading to the mess hall, she was sure.
Or...
The music room? That was past the mess hall. Maybe she had been on her way there.
Chris rubbed her temples and rose up to her knees, beginning to gather her things and stuff papers back into her bag.

Tuebor sauntered down the hallway, heading back from the mess hall. He could never stay seated after he had eaten. He wanted to go and explore. Those people that could sit and talk and drag lunch out to a full half-hour baffled him.
He paused when his foot bumped a water bottle. It rolled away from him. He followed it with his eye, one eyebrow arching higher as it got further along the hallway.
"Chris?" He jogged over to her and crouched by her side, resting his forearms on his thighs, watching her stuff books into her backpack. "Is there a reason you're on the floor, boo?"

"Mmn. I fell." Chris reached past Tuebor to snatch up her iPod. Dammit, this was the second time this week she had dropped it. First the track, now this.

Tuebor scoffed and took her backpack from her, slinging it over his own shoulder and standing upright.
"Bullshit. You don't fall." He grabbed her hand and pulled her to her feet. "So who was it?"

Chris wobbled a bit, but managed to get over her short bout of dizziness after blinking hard a few times. Her hand went to her head, but she thought better of it and dropped it back to her side.
"I fell," she insisted.

Tuebor gripped the girl's shoulder to steady her. His eye caught that hand movement.
"Yeah, sure." He pulled her to him. "And I'm a fucking narwhal. Did you hit your head?" He ran his hands through her hair inspectively, finding the lump a few inches behind her left ear. He pressed on it with the pad of his thumb.

"Aissh!" Chris hissed and batted his hands away, stepping back from him. "That hurt, you goon! Why would you do that?" She rubbed the side of her skull furiously.
"It was Eztli, alright? Now give me my backpack back. I'm going to lunch."

Tuebor nodded. Good, that sharp reaction meant that it wasn't a concussion. He pivoted his torso away from her, to keep his far shoulder (over which the offending backpack was slung) out of her reach.
His eyebrows rose. He scrunched his mouth to one side, his lip piercing clattering softly against his teeth. "Sharkboy, huh?" He grinned. It was a devilish look. "Yeah." He nodded. "Yeah, I'll walk you to lunch. I think Eztli was in there. I think I'll say hello to him."
He held out a hand for her to take.

Yuki was also on his way to lunch. He had been practicing in the band room with Roien, she really was getting much better and working with someone else was also improving his skills.
He turned the corner to see Chris rubbing her head and a strange looking boy holding out his hand to her, holding her backpack. "Chris?" Yuki called out to the girl. He quickened his pace to catch up to the two. He stopped just beside Chris.

Chris winced as her fingertips brushed the lump beneath her hair.
"Hey, Yuki," she said, turning from Tuebor. "What's up?"

Tuebor let his hand drop back to his side. He hitched the backpack higher on his shoulder and arched an eyebrow at the boy's approach.
So Yuki was his name. Tuebor just called him the emo kid.

Yuki arched an eyebrow at Chris. "I was about to ask you the same thing," he said observing her hand on her head. He tilted his head curiously . . . and then glanced at Tuebor.
He had remembered this boy from passing him multiple times in the hallway, but he had never caught the boy's name. Something about him didn't feel right. He felt out of place, like he had interrupted something. He returned his gaze to Chris, a little uneasy.

Tuebor smirked.
"Chris here cracked her head on the floor," he explained to Yuki. "I'm going to take care of some business. Make sure she doesn't, like, pass out or anything."
He stepped forward, handed Chris her backpack, then kissed the side of her head, where the lump was. Just to be weird. Without saying anything else, he turned on his heel and sauntered back towards the mess hall, cracking his knuckles.
Oooh, Sharkboy, he thought to himself. You're in a whole heap of trouble.
Not that he was acting on Chris's behalf, or anything. She and Bekkoji were the closest friends he had, aside from his mother, and he would never admit to being protective of anyone.
But.
If anyone asked, he had just been looking for a fight.

Yuki watched Tuebor leave warily. What had that been. . . was he possibly Chris' boyfriend?! Something inside Yuki squirmed.
"Uh, here, would you like me to carry that for you?" Yuki asked, holding out his hand to take her backpack.

Chris had twitched away from Tuebor at the kiss. She watched him go, glaring through her hair. Then that look lifted into one of worry. If Tuebor was going to do what she thought, then he was going to be in an assload of trouble. Surely he wasn't that stupid. Surely.
Unfortunately, Chris knew he was. Dammit.
Chris needed a hug.
She turned to face Yuki, managing a half-smile. "If it's not too much trouble," she said, wary. "Um... I don't know if I want to head to the mess hall, though. I mean..." Her gaze dropped to her backpack, which she hugged to her stomach. "I have history work to do, and..." Her head hurt. She wanted to curl up on something soft and sleep. Forget the rest of her classes.
She looked up at Yuki. He was only a few inches taller than her, but she felt very small at the moment. "Could you walk me to my room?"

In that one moment, seeing Chris like that, he lost all of his strange feeling from moments before.
Yuki smiled softly at her. "Sure," he said taking her backpack and slinging it over his shoulder. He wasn't that hungry anyway. "I can help you with your history homework if you like," he suggested, slowly leading the way. "And you never answered my question, what happened?"

Chris nodded. "That would be pretty awesome," she mumbled, rubbing her head.
"Bah." She grimaced, wrinkling her nose. "Like Tuebor said. I cracked my head on the floor." She wasn't going to say that it hadn't been her fault. Let him think she was clumsy-- after all, he had seen her spill on the track the week before. "And my backpack unzipped and my stuff went everywhere." She shrugged, trying to be nonchalant. "I've just got a bit of a headache, that's all."

Yuki glanced at her, worry in his eyes. "Should we take you to the sick bay? Have them look at your head?" Yuki asked, talking a little faster than he normally did.
Tuebor? So that was the other boy's name. Since she had SEEMED to flinch away from Turebor's attempt at affection, Yuki decided not to worry about it. It wasn't his buisness anyway and if it was, surely someone would bring it up.

Chris winced. "It's just a bump," she insisted, her fingers moving reflexively to touch the lump beneath her hair. "I don't need to go to the sickbay."
Chris squeezed her eyes shut as she walked. She sounded like she was whining, and she didn't like that.
She must have listed sideways for a moment, because when she opened her eyes again, she was stumbling. Chris dropped to one knee, took a deep, calming breath, and stood again. If she could sit down, she'd be fine. She was sure of it.

Yuki noticed her start to fall. He took a step to help her but thankfully she caught herself. He sighed in relief. "If you want, we can go to my dorm," he suggested, "It's closer and you could sit down." He adjusted her backpack to his other shoulder. He wrapped one arm around Chris' waist. Yes, it was forward, but he decided that forwardness would be favored over her falling again. "Not to mention that's where my violins are," he added with a nervous smile.
This was actually the closest he'd been to a girl, that wasn't one of his mothers. His cheeks slowly began to turn a nice shade of pink. Yuki could feel the warmth in his cheeks and he tried to flip his bangs so some of his blush was hidden.

Chris merely nodded-- Yuki had a point. And the steadying arm at her waist was a help, because though she walked at a steady pace, every time she closed her eyes her equilibrium went out of whack.
She was aware of an odd flicking in her peripheral vision. Chris turned her head to raise an eyebrow at Yuki. "Are you... having a seizure or what?"

Yuki shook his head. "I think my hair's getting too long," he said on the fly, "It keeps getting in my eyes."
Good, so she hadn't noticed the blushing!! Thank God. Now to change the topic.
"Um, what is your history homework on?" He smiled at her, "More dead generals and war tacktics?"

"I like your hair," Chris insisted.
She rubbed the side of her head absentmindedly. "We have to describe the differences between all the French Louis. You know, the kings." She sighed. "Then we have to come up with a way to remember those differences. And share with the class."
She scrunched up her freckled nose. Her head was hurting again just thinking about it.

Why did this girl always find a way to make him blush!! "T-thanks," Yuki said, not looking at her.
"Ah," he said remembering, "I never really cared for the French. Their tactics are poor and their language poorer." He tightened his grip on her waist, reasuringly. "Don't worry, we're almost there."
