"We aren't human, Jonathan. We never claimed to be good. But neither are we evil. I'm not stalking her. If I was, I would have done a far better job."
He chuckled coldly, "Humans are toys. Such short lived little creatures, striving so hard for meaning. It's amusing. And you... oh, you are so much more fun. You think you're so tough, and you put on an act, and anyone who cares to can see right through it. You make a mockery of your very self. And oh so easy to play with. You think you can get to me?"
He laughed, the sound echoing cruelly through the room. Removing his foot from Jonathan's hand, he started walking around the boy again. "Mature. Don't you understand? Fae aren't so... easily defined. But you, oh you are ridiculously easy to define, to explain. You are weak, Jonathan. Even your retorts are weak. Do you think to shame me? ME?"
He laughed again, pressing his foot into Jonathan's solar plexus. "I have no shame, Jonathan. And you could never come close to sullying my honor. You don't even understand the concept of true honor. Jason does. Maybe you should go take lessons from him again, Jonathan. He's probably one of the only people who saw only what you allowed him to see and still cared about you. Ian only feels vague responsibility. You can't even get actual care out of the one person who should care the most.
"But then... how could you? You don't even care yourself. You never did. Jason told you once... what was it. "Others will only give you respect when you give yourself respect." Even that is beyond your capabilities, isn't it? Self-respect. Nothing has ever been more pathetic than you are, Jonathan. And the best part is?" He chuckled again, his elegant lips once again turned up in a smirk.
"You did it to yourself. All of this, all that you have ever faced, all the angst and agony you ever felt, you did to yourself. Oh, you blame everyone else, you find every excuse in the book, but ever, always... it was you and only you. You almost had my pity, Jonathan. Almost. Pity would have saved you."
He kicked Jonathan in the side, hearing ribs crack. Picking the boy up by his collar again, he dragged him out to the window, and looked out. "Huh. Two stories. I wonder... can illusions fly?"
Tilting his head to the side, he looked at Jonathan again. "Let's find out, shall we?"
Without missing a beat, he heaved the boy through the window. Paula would be... well, less unpleased. Really, Jonathan was in pretty good shape, physically. He certainly wasn't dead.
Couldn't fly though. Laughing again, a harsh mocking cruel laugh that lasted far longer than seemed possible and sent birds flying, he slipped into the night, leaving Jonathan where he lay. Broken bones and all. Someone would find him in the morning, take him to the hospital. Put the physical pieces back together. Jonathan would probably brush off what Korlian said. At least, on the surface. But the words would linger, fester in the back of his mind. Another laugh ripped through the darkness, causing a baby to start crying.
There you go, Paula. Very little mess for you to clean up. I didn't even make him bleed. On the outside, at least.

-------------
Paula sat at a table near the edge of an outdoor cafe, sipping her coffee. The one thing she didn't like about London was the inability to get a decent cup of coffee. Everywhere she had gone just wanted to serve her tea, and she didn't want tea, she wanted coffee, and she had made that very clear. As she sipped her hard-earned coffee and picked at a muffin, she flipped through the day's newspaper, her eyes narrowing at the headline adorning the first page.
"MYSTERIOUS DEATHS CONTINUE ALL THROUGH EUROPE"
There was nothing mysterious about the deaths to Paula. She knew all the names. They were vampires, werewolves, and mages all over Europe. The murders seemed unconnected, but Paula knew that the mastermind behind all of them was the same; the man behind the voice. What puzzled her was how he was managing to kill so many, so far apart. As much as she hated to think it, the voice quite possibly had people in his employ. More than possibly, actually. Someone had to kill the harvesters in Paris, and someone had to knock the team out in America and put them in the cells.
Paula resolved right then, for about the fifth time that day, to listen to the students more. They had known, somehow, that Greenhaven was a bad idea, and she had forced them to go. Nearly gotten them killed.
There was a terrific crash from the direction of the street, and Paula looked up over the top of the newspaper. Her eyes rolled and she sighed deeply. "What the hell?" She muttered to herself.

Korlian ran behind Paula, hiding behind her and peeking over her shoulder. He made a soft squeak and ducked behind her again. The crash had been Korlian running and knocking over a waiter with dirty dishes across the street from Paula.
Korlian peeked over her shoulder again, watching a very angry Istvan coming closer. Yelping again, he ducked behind her and tried to make himself invisible.

Istvan hurried across the street to where Korlian had been running, seeing Paula and giving her a nod and a polite (if rather terse) "Good morning" before ducking around her to confront Korlian.
"You're making this harder on yourself, you know," he told the boy. "Just give me my mother's pendant, please. I don't bite."

Korlian yelped and ran away again. "I didn't mean to take it, I didn't! It was shiny and there and I just wanted to look and then you were all RAWR and and I don't have it I put it baaack!"
He ducked behind the still exhausted Aramis, who was sitting by Paula in a barely conscious state.

"Hm. Well." Istvan frowned down at Korlian, stepping carefully around Aramis to do so. His voice was slowly growing calmer than it had been. "If you'd mentioned that in the first place, we wouldn't have this problem. But you should have asked before looking at what isn't yours. It's the polite thing to do."
He looked at Aramis, who looked barely conscious and not entirely well. The poor kid was running himself ragged trying to heal everyone's injuries, and his healing magic probably wasn't keeping up with dealing with his own fatigue. The sooner all this was over and Aramis had the chance to really rest, the better.

Korlian hunched lower, "I tried to but you weren't listening and I really really wanted to see it and I was going to give it back just like I did and then you yelled at me and...
"And Paula gave me coffee," he grinned cheekily, still hiding behind poor Aramis. "Lots of sugary coffee with an extra shot and I really really liked it and if she was going to offer it to me I was going to take it enough though she should probably know better and hey! Wanna play a game?!"

Paula let out a long sigh and massaged her temples. One of these days I am going to lock his Fae ass in the storage closet with Chlhass and Jonathan and not let them out until- She let out a small chuckle at the thought of the Fae brothers and Jonathan locked together in a closet and then resumed her temple-massaging.
"I did not 'give' you coffee." She intoned, staring down at her own cup. "You asked for money for breakfast and I gave you some. You did not mention that breakfast was sugar and caffeine. From now on when you ask for money, I'm going to buy you breakfast myself, and it will be stale bread and a glass of water..."

Korlian grinned up at her, "You took me to a coffee shop and then gave me money and I got a muffin with some sausage too but you didn't pay ATTENTION and you're a detective and that's what you're supposed to do is pay attention and notice things and you could have stopped me but you didn't so in effect you did give me the coffee because you let me have it so it's all your fault."
He skipped out of her reach and... giggled. "You won't give me stale bread and water because you need me in good shape because I can do things no one else can but only if I'm healthy and not sick so you don't have a choice, no you don't."

Paula grunted. The detective comment stung, even if Korlian didn't know it. After Greenhaven... Paula shook her head. She would not go down this road again. She sighed and stirred her coffee with a spoon, staring off down the street.
"Just make sure the high wears off before we go to Natalie's. Ian's having to explain the whole thing... poor girl's probably scared out of her mind. I doubt that your current state would help matters any."

Korlian nodded quickly, "Okay, I'll do my best hey Istvan want to play a game?!"
He knew better than to ask Paula, and he would ask Aramis except the boy had yet to respond to being used as a shield. So Istvan was all that was left and he wasn't going to find someone else to go pester. Right now, he really didn't feel like he could trust anyone right now. Greenhaven had gotten him all sorts of confused and uncomfortable. Korlian didn't like being uncomfortable. Greenhaven had also forcibly reminded him of his own weaknesses and he liked that even less. So Istvan was unfortunately Korlian's only choice.

Istvan looked down at Korlian, his eyebrows slowly lifting. The thought of a game was not very appealing to him right now, in light of what the terrible Voice had thought up to torment them all. Then again... Korlian was definitely not the Voice. On the other hand, he was Fae, and Fae were known for being mischeivous at best.
"....What kind of game?" he asked slowly.

Korlian shrugged, a rather jerky motion due to his rapid movements. "Hide-and-seek, or tag or something like that but nothing that might get someone hurt because Paula wouldn't like that and I just want to burn off some energy without causing any more trouble like I did with your mother's pendent which I am sorry about by the way I didn't mean to upset you I just wanted to see the pretty pendent which was luckily not iron because Aramis couldn't handle healing me again from that."
He nodded in a way that would have been wise if it hadn't been so hyped up on sugar and sending his shoulder-length hair flipping in and out of his face.

Istvan blinked at the extensive run-on sentence that streamed from Korlian's mouth, then worked it over piece by piece in his mind. Hide and seek sounded harmless enough, though with two illusionists playing it, things could get... interesting. Then again, Istvan didn't have any spare outfits on hand to change into if he were to change his form to avoid being caught. Oh, well.
"Alright, I'll play," he consented. "But to keep it fair, I won't be using my powers to help me hide. We'll play this like mortals. Which of us will hide first?"

Aramis took a moment to realize Korlian had been hiding behind him, and a moment longer to realize he was no longer being used as a shield. Blinking, he looked at Istvan and Korlian behind him, then just shrugged and turned back to his coffee. He half-wished it was having the same effect on him as it was on Korlian, with the little part of his brain that was conscious enough to make such wishes. He wasn't getting sick. Not yet. That would probably happen once this was over and he could relax, and then he was going to get really super sick.
His dark eyes looked blankly at the cup in his hands, watching the steam rise slowly from the dark liquid within. It was mostly just espresso with some dark chocolate mixed in (dark chocolate had more caffeine and Aramis had been distantly hoping it would help) but it didn't seem to be doing a damn thing for his consciousness level. What he really needed was a very long time in a comfortable bed without being woken for any reason and most especially not to heal anyone. His magic MIGHT be able to reverse the backlash he was suffering, but not if it kept being compounded. And unfortunately, Paula was using every resource she had available. If things didn't slow down, he might end up landing himself in the hospital with no way for the doctors to take care of what was wrong. After all, it wasn't exactly a physical malady he was suffering from.

Korlian grinned, "Okay I like that idea you hide first and I'll find you and then we can see if Aramis can awake up enough to play too because it's more fun with more than two people playing and I'm going to count to one hundred so you have time because I know I'm talking really fast and it's not fair and one, two, three, four-"

Istvan opened his mouth to protest that Aramis probably wasn't and wouldn't be feelng up to doing much of anything for quite a while yet, but Korlian had started counting almost before the rest of his sentence had registered. He bolted, relieved that Korlian had chosen to count to one hundred, though at the current speed Korlian was speaking it was probably more like thirty seconds.
He grinned as he found a suitable spot and dove for it, pressing himself into the shadows and shifting his body so that only his eyes were visible, watching and waiting warily for Korlian.

Paula sat in silence, reading through the article about mysterious deaths and making a point to ignore Korlian, Istvan, and a baby that had started crying a few tables away. A few minutes later, a girl who looked about half Paula's age approached her table and cleared her throat.
"Ma'am," The girl said hesitantly. "I think your children are disturbing the baby at the other table. The couple has asked me to speak to you."
Paula calmly folded her newspaper closed and looked up, fixing the girl with an icy stare reserved only for bad guys and Jonathan. "If you so much as imply that Korlian is my son ever again I will see to it that your little coffeeshop is shut down within the week." She was bluffing, of course, but her mood meant that the girl had no way of knowing that. "And as for the couple, kindly inform them that if they don't have the guts to come over here and deal with the matter themselves, then I have nothing I can do about it. My "children" and I just narrowly escaped death for the second time in the last two weeks and most of us are more than willing to inform them that they are welcome to move inside if they have a real problem with us. If you really want to make yourself useful, you can go get me some more coffee." She extended her coffee cup at the girl, who paled, took it, and fled back indoors.
Continuing to ignore everyone around her, Paula returned to reading her paper and pretending she wasn't where she was.

Korlian found Istvan rather quickly, grinning cheerfully and poking him. "Found you your turn now you count to twenty and I'll hide and then you HAVE to come find me or I'll come find you and then we'll have to play a different game okay?"
He bounced on the balls of his heels, physically incapable of holding still. At least, right now. Once he was hiding, he'd devote all that energy TO holding still and then watch Istvan try to find him. That was going to be as much fun as hiding in the first place. Istvan, being so tall, was rather easy to find. Korlian knew that his small stature would make it far easier to him to disappear. After all, he was a hunter and knew how to hide without using magic at all.
Besides, magic was cheating and Korlian didn't have enough to make it any good ANYWAY.

Istvan smiled a little, watching Korlian bounce hyperly up and down. "Fine by me. One, two, three..." He turned to face the wall and covered his eyes as he continued to count, listening to find out the direction Korlian would be leaving in. If his footsteps made any sound at all.

Korlian grinned and ran off, his footfalls landing very lightly and making hardly a sound. Still grinning, he dashed very quickly up a nearby tree, hiding perfectly into the foliage. He could see out, but he knew it would be hard to see him behind the full foliage. Though Istvan's height might help him find Korlian, he would have to look very hard.

Istvan finished counting and headed off to look for Korlian, searching carefully. He ducked under a low-hanging branch of a nearby tree, his eyes looking upward through the foliage. After a pause, he straightened up to his full height and began searching through the branches, using his ears as well as his eyes and hands, climbing up the trunk to see better.
His fingers brushed against fabric with obvious flesh and bone underneath, and he grinned. "Found you. That was easier than I thought it would be."

Korlian snickered, "Lucky guess. You're going to have to move to let me down, or get me down yourself."
Apparently he'd settled a little, but the way he was moving showed he was still hyper and should probably do something else to keep burning the energy he'd gained through his... slightly ill-gotten coffee.

Korlian nodded rapidly, scrambling down the tree and looking around quickly. Shrugging, he noticed someone flicking a lighter. He grinned and found a store selling them, pulling out some change from what Paula had given him to buy it. He stood outside the store flicking it, watching the flame happily and then letting it go out to flick it again.
As he flicked the flame on, something out of the corner of his eye caught his attention. He turned away, the flame still glowing on the lighter as he dropped it onto his shirt.
