Name: Valérian Mervielle-Dion
Age (Actual age and the age you appear): Actually 281, appears 17
Gender: Male
Eye Color: Pale, nearly white-blue
Hair Color: Silvery white
Height: 5’ 3”
Weight: 100 lbs
Significant Physical Details: He is a slight young man with a lean frame and thin face, his cheekbones a little more prominent than is common. He is also an albino, with crystal, almost colorless blue eyes and extremely pale skin, even for a vampire. His hair is silver, a little longer than shoulder-length and tied back with a black leather thong at the nape of the neck. He dresses simply for a lordling, in a white billowy shirt and a black vest with silver embroidery. He also wears black leggings that fit closely without being immodest and black boots that lace halfway up his calf over the leggings. He has recently taken to wearing fingerless leather gloves and pierced his right ear with a small, single silver earring. Eternally seventeen, he looks a little younger because of his shorter stature, but has a maturity in his eyes that belies his youthful appearance.
How long have you been Teaching?: Formally, not very. It’s hard to get a degree when you look seventeen and don’t age. He has however mentored various fledgelings created as he was or abandoned youths throughout the years.
What do you teach?: French history, late European history from the 1700’s to the present. His opinions and memories color his lessons without detracting from the facts. Can really teach any history, and definitely likes to teach French. Be warned, sometimes his language is very archaic when speaking French.
Sexual Orientation (If you put something stupid like 'lot's I'm going to hurt you): Straight
Marital Status (Hiya Veronique, still not married? That's a shame.): Nope
Children ('That one that followed me home' doesn't count.): Adopted, none that still live or even remember his name. His face on the other hand…
Birthday (zodiac optional): 31 August 1728, but became a vampire: 4 December 1745
Hobbies: Reading, has started reading manga thanks to the large inventory of the library. Likes the dark, horror/occult stuff. He will usually read whatever comes to hand. (Fable, deal with it. YOU LOSE). He also likes to play board games, especially those that involve strategy
Fears: Fire, definitely. For more than just the normal vampire stuff. Dislikes the sun more than most, ingrained even as a mortal. Albinos burn easily.
Blood Type: Type B
Clan: Nosferatu
Blood Preferred (You know, mealtime): Type O, typically. Deer blood when avoiding human blood.
Vampire Powers (We're open minded but, just don't go overboard okay?): He hides almost perfectly in night time shadows which is part power and part skill. You learn a great deal in 250-ish years of hiding from others and yourself.
Weakness (You know, to counter that awesomeness up there you can pull): He is very visible in sunlight and moonlight picks him out if he isn’t careful. In fact… he almost glitters, but not in a ‘gorgeous Twilight’ way. Just enough to NOT hide. Definitely isn’t furry at all though.
Character History (Here is where if there is something special about you we have to be informed. Tell us in detail how and why you're a special little snowflake): To be forthcoming. I need to work on it better.(Altering characters to fit here, so things need editing a bit, yes.)
Edit: ((Okay, so I'm too lazy to change it and it still works.))
His mother, the Lady Maria Mervielle-Dion, was seduced by a vampire, but she resisted after learning what he was after and for the love of her husband. He tried to kill her, draining her of blood to hide what he was and what he had attempted, but Valérian killed him at his moment of greatest vulnerability. She seemed dead, but as the vampire’s death had been rather violent, she had been covered by his blood, ingested some and thus was turned into one. Valérian buried her himself, sending a letter to his absent father telling him what happened and urge him to return with all possible haste.
Three days later, he was mourning at her grave when she awakened, unaware of her death and desiring to gain an explanation of events. Naturally, seeing someone he believed was dead, Valérian panicked and attacked what he saw as an apparition or a demon taking his beloved mother’s form. She immediately protected herself, and having just awakened, lost herself to bloodlust and attacked him. When she came back to her senses, she found him slumped limply in her arms. Terrified that she had killed him, she attempted to revive him, returning the blood she had taken and unknowingly changing her son into a vampire like herself. When he did not awaken, or seem to be affected at all, she left him at the graveside and ran into the house, calling for help. As it was late at night, all the servants were asleep and did not hear her cries for help nor her feet running through the hall. She finally found herself in the family chapel. Thinking of the body she had left at her grave, Maria fell to her knees and begged The Lord to restore her son and take her life instead. As the sun began to rise, she knocked over one of the many candles lighting the chapel and released what she had to do. In penance for Valérian’s death, she burned herself, becoming completely consumed by the flames until nothing was left.
That day, after the sun had risen, Lord René Mervielle returned to grieve his wife and found Valérian, looking as if he had committed suicide at the Lady’s grave. He buried him next to her grave, mourning both his heir and his wife, though he was unaware that she was no longer buried there. Three days later, young Étienne visited the graves, for the first time learning what death was. While he sat there, crying, Valérian awoke, maddened and blinded by bloodlust. Before he had realized what had happened, he had completely drained his younger brother. He backed away slowly, looking at the pale, lifeless form of his precious brother, then turned and ran into the nearby forest on his family’s land, horrified at what he had done and leaving Étienne’s body at the graves with no apparent cause of death. He remained hidden in the forest for a few months, trying to come to terms with what he had done and what he had become.
He finally came back, to try to explain to his father what had happened... but when he passed the graves there were four, not three. Unable to deal with the fact that he had indirectly killed his father as well, he fled again. He wandered for years, picking up the occasional stray newly fledged vampire once he figured out what he was and that he could survive on animal blood as well, teaching them how to hide... and then moving on when they could take care of themselves. He learned very quickly how to avoid the notice of hunters, after having to kill a few merely to survive, and moved to America in the late 19th century. After nearly three hundred years, he has a french accent only when he wants to, and when he learned about Dunehelden and was offered a teaching position, he jumped on it. Though he does worry that he's going to be mistaken as a student more often than not.
