Player's Name: :s
Name: Shousei Yamazaki
Age: 17
Grade: University Freshman
Birthday: June 30th
Height: 5'5"
Weight: Athletic.
Gender: Male.
Appearance: He's a very pretty boy, severe-looking, with dark hair just long enough to be pulled back into a servicable ponytail. He doesn't really bother changing into something other than his uniform unless it's a weekend.
Personality: To most people, Shousei is polite, even friendly if he needs to be. He's ambitious, stubborn, and refuses to let anyone or anything get between him and what he wants, but he's also patient enough to plan and practical enough to realize when short-term plans need to be changed. Past initial impressions, he tends to come off as haughty and cold, and though he tries to hide it, he has a vicious sense of humor.
It would amuse him to be called an idealist, but he is- just a very self-absorbed one. He believes strongly in order and propriety, and even more strongly in using those things to get what one wants. Other people aren't very important thing to him, except in that they define the social order, but for the same reason he doesn't tolerate those who try to get ahead by hurting others, and improper behavior is irrelevant in the face of a challenge to long-term stability. In another life, he could have been a dictator or a courtier, or possibly a very angry paladin.
He focuses strongly on schoolwork and planning for a career because that's what he expects to be doing with his life, though recent events have thrown him for a loop somewhat. Dance is one of the few things he lets himself relax doing, and he throws himself into that as much as anything; it's also his weakness, in a sense, being possibly the only thing that he cares about enough to permanently dampen his pride and his spirits if it were taken away. Given his expectations for his life, he's not completely aware of how important it is to him.
History: Shousei has had a nice, middle-class life; his father has a stable job at a cell phone company, his mother stays at home, and he has two younger siblings, a brother and a sister. His family isn't particularly warm, or close, or involved with each other, but Shousei is like that with everyone and doesn't seem to have noticed. He's always been the good son, doing well in school and in sports, never getting in any serious trouble; a competitive and ambitious boy, particularly after being told he was losing his hearing in elementary school. While he isn't, strictly speaking, sensitive about that, he doesn't let it be widely known either, and it's one reason he doesn't really socialize as much as he's expected to. He's never had many close friends, though tends to have a large circle of acquaintances.
When he was nine, his father was given the opportunity to transfer to a new branch of the company opening up in Singapore, and he took his family along with him. It took Shousei a couple of months to adjust, but he was better off than the rest: he quickly found himself being asked to use his free time to tutor his siblings in English, which he simultaneously resented and loved, and his mother never did really make it, which added another layer of tension to the household. Irritated but unable to do anything about it, Shousei found excuses to stay away from home.
This inevitably resulted in the next great change in his life. Between his personality and his circumstances, Shousei endured a bit of teasing at school while he was new; trying to get back into sports, he was tricked into showing up for dance instead. Out of spite and a desire to do something with his time, Shousei decided to join anyway and become the best damn dancer in the school, and found that not only did he enjoy it, he had the talent to do much more than that.
Shousei doesn't really like talking about why he decided to give up what he had and go to Dunehelden. By grades and recommendations, of course, he could've gotten in; the fact that they were willing to allow him into college a little early didn't hurt; and he is definitely magical enough, despite being mortal, that he might've just wanted to go somewhere where he could talk about that- or somewhere he wasn't automatically the top of the class in dance.
After some doing, the staff managed to get the real reason out of him. That reason is currently sitting in a sealed letter in his file.
For Mortals
Non-Magical Strengths: He's gone to some very good schools and done well in them. He speaks Japanese and Mandarin as well as English. Other than that, he mostly has his powers; he doesn't really have the free time to be well-rounded.
Minor Powers: Shousei has astounding flexibility, balance, and general control over his own body; he can walk across anything that can hold his weight, stand on top of a ball without so much as making it twitch, and twist himself into a pretzel, at the same time if necessary. Combined with years of training in everything his teachers could get him to try, from modern dance to ballet, he can keep up with anyone who's not cheating even more than he is.
