Sam had never been able to beat this level. TimeSplitters II was her favorite first-person shooter, but for whatever reason the Soviet Union was denying her accurate headshots. She blamed the helmets.
Also the fact that her character was drunk.
Vodka and crosshairs didn't mix well.
Sam sighed and flopped upside-down on the couch, her long legs draped over the back and her head dangling off the front. If she couldn't beat the level, she was going to dick around until something exploded and killed her.
Oh, how amusing it was to see the guards dance when you shot their feet. Sam gave a low chuckle and fired again.

Blaise wandered into the student lounge, flopping down gracefully in one of the oversized armchairs. Blaise was incurably, hopelessly, horrendously bored, and as unpleasant as this was for Blaise, it always promised to be much, much worse for anyone who happened to be in his line of fire. Blaise was persistent, and tending to come up with his second stupidest ideas when he was bored. (He came up with his worst ideas when he had access to alcohol, but that wasn't likely to happen very often at Dunehelden. As far as Blaise could tell, the headmistress was the only one who routinely got drunk. He'd have to rectify that at some point. Maybe with a lot of vodka and spin the bottle.)
Blaise turned over on the chair to stare at the television, flicking his bangs out of his eyes. "Hey, what's that you're doing? I haven't played this game before." He shifted upward, flailing a bit as he tried to get a better view. "This isn't one of the zombie games, is it? Because I kick ass at Left 4 Dead."

"Zombies are the level after next," Sam replied immediately. She paused the game, looked up at the blond boy and smirked. "I've got Left 4 Dead if you want to play me. But you have to put it in." She pointed out the extra controller set beside her Xbox 360 on the floor, then slapped her hand on the couch cushion next to her, indicating that he should move if he were going to join.
She flicked her thumb across the bridge of her nose. "Just give me a second."
She led her character along the edge of the weapons siloh and found a row of gasoline tankards, aimed, and fired. The screen lit up in a massive explosion that killed the character and prompted a "game over" screen.
Sam smirked. "Okay, now you can switch games."
