Stephen poked his head into the auditorium, glancing around and seeing no-one inside. He stepped through the door and up the aisle between the rows of seats, heading toward the stage. He sat on the edge of the stage, his legs dangling over the side as he exchanged the sneakers on his feet for the tap shoes he had been holding.
Standing up, he set his sneakers off to one side and took several steps away, standing around the middle of the stage. Counting for a few seconds in his head, he then launched into a dance, his shoes tapping loudly against the stage and echoing around the empty room. That was one of the reasons he loved dancing in the auditorium--really good accoustics. His shoes sounded great.
He could feel the sweat making his clothes cling to him as he danced back and forth, across, up and down the stage, sometimes leaping and kicking at the air, sometimes dancing in place and moving nothing but his feet and ankles. He pulled off his sweaty shirt and tossed it away to the side of the stage, where it landed near his sneakers, and danced on.

The eagle had been waiting for the end of the day, and after such a late night, had fallen asleep on the rack of lights above the stage. The clap-clatter of shoes on the floor of the auditorium, after a moment, woke him up. He fluffed his feathers, stretched, and looked down at the boy. Was he dancing or having some sort of seizure?
The rhythm was nice, though. Tap tappety tap-tap-tap tap...

Stephen was grateful that he had removed his shirt; he could practically feel the sweat starting to run down his body, making his hair stick to his neck and back. Probably a good time to wind down. He tappety-tapped a few more lengths of the stage, coming to rest where he had started.
He stood still for awhile, catching his breath, before going back to where his shirt and shoes now lay and sitting down again, taking off his tap shoes and massaging his legs while resting his feet. He could never figure out how Michael Flatley could do that for hours on end without collapsing. Dancing like that was one heck of a workout--no wonder Flatley allegedly lost five pounds during every show.
Stephen pulled his sneakers back on and stood again, fully intending to head back to his dorm and take a nice long shower before doing anything else. He heard a soft rustling above him and looked up, seeing a pair of golden eyes watching him from near the ceiling.
"'Hello," he called up to the owner of the eyes. "Sorry, was I bothering you?"

The eyes looked down at Steven. He was still getting used to living in a place where people presumed he was capable of speech.
"No," he replied. "You're very good." Or that sounded like the right thing to say, anyhow; he didn't know dancing from woodlice, and it was hard to tell up here.
"Is Smoke here?"

"Thanks," Stephen grinned. "I haven't seen him around, sorry." He started to pull his shirt back on, then sniffed at it and decided to leave it off. "Is there something important you need to tell him? I could pass on a message if you want."
