He nodded and slipped back inside, swallowing a bit. He glanced around... who was next? Du, or Ian? "Um... I think it's someone else's turn?" he said softly, though he made certain that his voice carried.

"I guess it's my turn," Dubhiarr answered, getting carefully up from her bed and taking a few tentative steps toward the door. She teetered a little, unused to walking yet, but stayed on her feet.

Aramis moved quickly to help her, his face concerned. "Are you okay?"
He made certain to hold her carefully. She was still pale... like she had lost a lot of blood. She had probably been involved in what had happened... since it was a vampire's body that lay hidden. He'd noticed blood in the hall, and gotten a glimpse of Conall's corpse earlier.

Veronique glanced in the doorway. "Sometime this year, Miss MacNamara?" the headmaster sighed, tapping her pencil against the notepad.
"I am only interested in what you remember of last night, nothing more," she explained, her voice softening almost imperceptibly. "You will not be in any trouble, and you have nothing to fear of retaliation."

"Thanks... I think I'll be okay," Dubhiarr smiled, still leaning on the boy for some support. She took a few steps away from him, and slipped out through the half-open door to stand beside the Headmistress.
"I went to my dorm right after supper last night," she began, "and I told Nina about an incident that had happened with Kemekin in the student lounge. We started arguing, and I got upset and ran out to the courtyard to get some fresh air... I didn't realize the sun had almost set until I got out there.
"Conall was there in the courtyard... he helped me calm down a little bit before I recognized him. I saw that it was late and I told him I had to get back inside, but he insisted I stay with him and tell him how long he'd been unconscious for. I told him he'd been out for about four days, which is what Ellie had told me before.
"Then he started talking about how thirsty he was, and I tried to get away from him, but he grabbed me and bit me..." She trailed off, visibly shuddering at the memories... Conall's hungry eyes, the cold, firm grip of his hands on her arms, the searing pain of his teeth in her neck. She swallowed, composing herself.
"I must have passed out after that... that's all I know."

Veronique nodded, placing one hand on Dubhiarr's shoulder. "Thank you," she replied quietly. "If there is nothing else, you may return. Please send out the last one."
The very thought of that man made her sick. Mortale had to have a truly audacious nerve to set such a depraved character loose in her school.

"Thank you." Dubhiarr slipped back into the sick bay, sitting on the edge of her bed and glancing at the boy in the bed beside hers.
"Your turn... Ian, right?"

Ian felt his throat constricting and his heart start racing. He felt lightheaded, and both his hands started to shake, which never happened unless he was really nervous. Nevertheless, Ian knew that the headmistress had to know what had happened to him the night before. Carefully, so as to make sure the pain in his head didn't swell up again, Ian swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood carefully. The buzzing intensified, but the pain did not return.
"...uh... yeah, my turn, I guess." He carefully made his way out the door and stood before the headmistress, very aware that he was trembling. Ian desperately tried to make his mouth for words, but he was far too nervous to say anything. Finally, he managed to squeak out something that sounded like words.
"I'm... um... I'm Ian, but you knew that... uh... you want to know everything that happened, right? Because there's some... um... there's some pretty... uh... weird stuff that went on that I... um... I think I'm the only one that knows about... except maybe Ellie, because she... uh... she's been trying to get rid of it?" Ian stopped and took a deep breath, staring at the headmistress' feet and feeling her eyes drilling into the top of his head.

Veronique stared at him impassively, waiting. "Please explain, if it is relevant, about this... 'weird stuff'?" she asked coolly. "I need to know everything that happened regarding Professor Conall."
The boy was terribly shaken, though she wasn't sure how much of it was due to her and how much was due to his experiences. She bit back her irritation; staying calm would help him the most.

Ian swallowed hard, took a deep breath, and went for it.
"Yesterday morning I woke up to a pretty bad hallucination. Thanks to class I was able to shake it, but it disturbed me all day. So right before curfew I went to find Professor Harrows. There was this boy down by her room. He looked really shaken. He said something about Conall being awake. I didn't know who Conall was, but when Professor Harrows came out, I went with her to fine Miss. Evans-Barros."
"Right after we managed to locate her, this weird guy showed up. He looked like he was... um... on some sorta drug or was crazy or something. Turned out to be Conall. I... uh... um..."
This was the weird part. Ian hoped that the headmistress wouldn't penalize him for technically breaking school rules or worse, not believe a word he said. "Professor Harrows changed into a wolf, but she couldn't do much, and neither could Miss. Evans-Barros. So I... uh... I kinda used my powers on Conall." Ian flinched, expecting the headmistress to lash out at him, but she didn't. So he kept going.
"My mind connected with Conall's, and I started to show him an image of fire... to scare him, you know? Keep him from attacking anyone? Only something happened... I can't really explain it, but... everything sorta... came back on me. I heard voices... memories... there was a lot of confusion, with voices all shouting at once, and then... I woke up in the sick bay. With a massive headache. Which is mostly gone, actually. And... um... that's about it."
Ian gazed expectantly at the headmistress. For a moment, he hesitated, but he figured his next question was worth a shot. "Do you... um... I don't mean to intrude but do... uh... do you have any idea what happened to me?"

Veronique listened quietly to the entirety of the boy's explanation, letting no emotion pass over her features. The important thing was to collect the details -- she could react to them later.
"I have a few ideas," she replied quietly, examining him. "I confess it is not something which I understand terribly well, and it might be best if another professor worked with you. You used your powers on Conall. You likely did more than you have ever attempted before -- would I be correct in this? -- and, because you are new to this, and because Conall was far more powerful than you, it was easy for that power to be turned against you."
Veronique scribbled something down in her notepad and slammed it shut. "I trust Dr. Evans-Barros has been doing her best with you? This sort of this is one of her specialties. I can't imagine anyone on staff more suitable to aid you."
Veronique stood up, straightening out her skirt. She gave Ian a contemplative look. "I would..." she paused, clearing her throat. "You acted valiantly, and you did a great service with what you did. Your actions enabled the problem to be dealt with efficiently. You have also given me valuable information on the matter at hand."
Veronique stuffed the notepad back in her bag, heading back into the infirmary. "You are dismissed. I need to speak with Dr. Evans-Barros."

Ian could feel a little bit of the weight lifting from his shoulders. Compliments from the headmistress were rare indeed. He nodded stiffly and turned, saying only a mumbled "Thank you, Headmistress Poulain." before heading back into the sick bay. He quickly pointed back to the door. "Miss. Evans-Barros? The headmistress wants to see you."
Then he walked over to his bed and lay back down, staring up at the ceiling. The whole incident was a mystery to him... even the headmistress couldn't appease his fears that something terrible was going to come of all this. He just had that feeling. And that feeling was almost never wrong.

Ellie nodded and stood, patting the boy's ankle as she passed by the foot of his bed. The door felt heavy to her as she pushed it open, her body not liking the stress that it had been put under.
The click! of the door's closing was louder than she had expected. It echoed in her tired ears and made her jump ever so slightly. She did her best, however, to push this weariness away and look Veronique in the eye, awaiting her questions.

Veronique gestured to the small office in the infirmary. "If you would join me, Ellie?" she said imperiously. "I'd like to hear your side of the recent events, as well."
Veronique watched the doctor closely: Ellie looked every bit as weary as Veronique felt. If Conall's death was half as hard on the Athenaeum as it was for Dunehelden, she would never hear the end of it from Mortale -- as though it were her fault he set a depraved pervert lose on her students!
"I hope you have been eating and taking naps when possible," Veronique stated crisply, her businesslike tone belying any concern she might have felt. "You'll not do anyone good by passing out."

Ellie allowed herself to be led.
"I've been taking care," she assured the Headmistress. "Being a healer has its perks-- I simply don't have the ability to exhaust myself so completely." But I can get pretty damn close.
She decided against taking a seat, even in her own office. "It was Jaebi Lyckander that found me first," she explained. "I told him to return to the Sick Bay. It's a good thing he didn't, because he found Ian and Diana, and then went in search of Vincent and was actually the one to discover Dubhiarr's..." she choked slightly on the word body.
"It was while with Diana and Ian that Conall quiet literally stumbled across us," she continued. "Ian's magic..." she had to think for a moment. How to describe this? "It... started out very effectively. It seemed to backfire on him, however. Not that Conall had done so intentionally, I think. At the time he was in no condition to ward off magic of any sort. In any case, Ian collapsed. When Vincent and the other three students arrived and Ariel was taken, Jaebi was ordered to help me get Ian back to the Bay. I was there until you summoned me back to the scene.
"Since then I've been working on sorting everything out. Dubhiarr is fine, aside from the regular side-effects of blood loss. She'll be fine by the end of the day, provided she eats enough. Ian, however..."

Veronique nodded. This was not going to be easy for Ian, there was no doubt of it. "I trust you can help him through this," Veronique replied. "I know of no one else who could. Do you have any ideas about how to help him?"
She paused. "I don't know much about magic, mind you, but I think, more than anything, he could use instruction on how to control it before it gets out of hand." Veronique looked at Ellie pointedly. If there was anyone who could teach the boy control, it would be Ellie.

Nina heard the voices of the two women coming from beneath the door, though she chose to ignore them. There were matters at hand more important than her own curiosity.
Peering around the corner, her eyes fell on a very certain purple-haired maiden. When Nina had woken up to find no Dubhiarr in the other bed, she had panicked. The scent of blood and heavy cleaners had permeated a specific hallway as she had passed through it, the nose-burning miasma leaking into the adjacent corridors. Hoping against hope that her roommate had had nothing to do with whatever had caused it, the blond mage rushed into the greater Bay and threw her arms around Dubhiarr with no sound other than a raspy sob.

Dubhiarr gasped softly as Nina entered the room and threw herself against her. She held her roommate close, looking into her face, trying to begin what she needed to say.
"Nina... I'm sorry..." she managed.

Nina, her head buried now in Dubhiarr's shoulder, shook her head and gulped down a few breaths of air.
"It was-- my fault, Du!-- I'm-- really sorry!" The words game between fresh sobs, which the girl was trying her best to fight down. She pulled away from her friend and looked her over with reddened eyes, sniffing once. "What landed you--" here, another sniff and a slight hiccup-- "in the sick bay? Did anyone hurt you?"

Dubhiarr made sure Nina was watching her as she pulled a lock of her hair away from her neck, revealing the scars from Conall's bite. She spoke a single word: "Creeps."

Nina froze, her throat visibly twitching with another hiccup. Her hands fell to her sides and tensed unconsciously into something resembling claws, and she took a full stride away from Dubhiarr.
"Where is he?" she asked, her voice uncharacteristically husky, her fury only fueled by the guilt she felt. If she hadn't caused Dubhiarr to run from her, Dubhiarr may very well have never been touched. She would find the old vampire and... and...

"He's dead. I don't know how, I don't know who did it. But whoever it was saved us all."

This seemed to comfort Nina very little. Good, Conall was dead. That meant he wouldn't fight back.
"Where's the bastard's body?" she continued, her voice rough now. "I'll rip it to pieces and set that shit aflame!"
Nina was shaking. She wanted a chance for retribution-- and revenge. Both had been taken from her in one fell swoop. Feeling her temper rising to dangerous levels, Nina took another step away from Dubhiarr, her hip bumping into the foot of the next bed over.

Dubhiarr sat up and took Nina's wrist. "Don't do anything reckless, Nina. I don't know where his body is. Just be glad that he's dead and he can't hurt anyone anymore." She pulled Nina gently back to her side, pulling her close. "I'm lucky to be alive."

Diana slipped quietly into the sick bay through the half-open door, her arms laden with vases of flowers. Seeing Dubhiarr awake, she smiled in greeting, setting the vases carefully down on the nearest available flat surface. There were three altogether: one held a bouquet of deep purple irises, one held bright yellow daffodils, and the other held creamy white lilies.
Turning to Dubhiarr and the rest of Ellie's charges once her hands were free, she smiled and signed, It's good to see you're all awake and looking well. Heaven knows last night was a trying one.[/color]
She took up the vases again, setting one down beside the bed of each of the patients: the daffodils were for Aramis, the irises for Dubhiarr, and the lilies for Ian.
