Hoshi pushed the door to the office open slightly, peering inside and tapping his fist lightly on the door frame.
"Smoke?" he called. "Are you busy at the moment? I'd like to talk to you about something, if you have time."
Hoshi stepped inside, nudging the door closed behind him.

Smoke sat leaning back in his chair with his feet up on his desk, reading a book. When he saw Hoshi come in, he sat up properly, marked his book, and lay it down.
"Nope. In fact, I was waiting for you- I take it this is important?"

Hoshi slid into the chair across from the desk. "You'd be right," he replied. "It's...hm. I'm not quite sure where to begin."
He sighed deeply, leaning back in the chair. "I think you're familiar with a student in my senior English class...Sydney Kapur is his name, I believe. He goes by Angel."

Smoke sorted through his memory. "The purple-haired kid? Yeah. I remember Vero screaming at Euro about his paperwork or something."

Hoshi nodded, then continued. "At the Christmas dance, something happened between him and Hitoshi, and I didn't catch most of what was said, but I did hear at the end Angel made an unusually specific comment about deaths in the family. Cassandra's death specifically." Hoshi folded his hands, pressing his knuckles to his mouth in thought. He paused for a moment.
"Earlier today I asked to speak with him after class to see if he actually knew anything. After a bit of prodding, he admitting to knowing something about her death. He kept saying that he couldn't say what he knew -- that he was physically incapable." His brow furrowed slightly. "A curse, perhaps, though I didn't press that particular issue much.
"He made a point of reminding me of the utter lack of evidence in the case. I think he meant to reference that normally even magic leaves some sort of trace, but I'm not certain." Hoshi paused, glancing away. "He also said to ask my daughter what happened, and that she saw it twice. Once on the night of Cassandra's death, and once more recently. 'On Samhain', as he said."

Smoke's face went blank. He sat without moving for a long moment, then sighed and brushed his hair back out of his face.
"So this random, newborn vampire claims to know what happened to Cassandra. I'm guessing you have... no offense, but... some reason to believe he isn't just a little sneak?" There was a subtle air of desperation in his voice.

"It's all a little too specific for that, don't you think?" he asked. "He knew about Hitoshi and Hitomi, which was strange enough, but he mentioned the prophecy. Specifically, blatantly, mentioned the prophecy, and implied that Cassandra's death was because of it. And as far as I knew, the only people aware of the prophecy were you, me, Cassandra, Cassandra's mother, and -- as of a few months ago -- Tristan. It's a bit too big of a coincidence for me to just dismiss it."

Smoke pushed his hair back again and leaned forward, sitting his elbows on the table and steepling his fingers in front of him.
"Okay. That is..." he sighed again. "What do you think we should do? Any ideas? Or is that why you came to me?"

"I'm rather curious how one of my students knows more about this that I do. I'd like to find out more about it. I'd like to know what exactly Hitomi saw. I'd like to know why the prophecy meant Cassandra's death, and if Thrall's death was in any way connected. I'd like to know what this new revelation means for the future."
He slumped slightly in his chair, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'd like to know what, if anything, should be told to Hitoshi. And Alex, and Hitomi for that matter. And I'd like to tell my children the truth, if I thought for a moment they would listen to me."

Smoke nodded. "I think maybe you should start with that... I mean, you're here, Tristan and Rivienne are here, sometime, somebody's gonna slip. I know it's not my place to decide this, but it might go easier for them if you were honest, whatever the rest of the family might think."
"Other than that, you said he said something to Hitoshi? Those two were arguing during the ball a while before Notos did his thing and all hell broke loose. Maybe he knows something. And... maybe we could ask Hitomi, and-or confront this kid?"

Hoshi licked his lips. "I'd like to try and do it a bit more gradually with them. I don't think that Hitomi will be very problematic, but Hitoshi..." He shook his head. "I'm afraid that if I actually told him the truth, even if he believed me, he would just shut me out further."
It was selfish, he knew. And childish, and avoiding the problem, and only making it worse in the long run. But he wasn't entirely sure he could handle it so soon. He needed time.
"Confronting him might not accomplish much, but it would be...something, at least," he admitted. "And someone should talk to Hitomi, but... I think it would be strange if I did it. It might make her suspicious, and if it gets around to Tristan-- well, I'm not altogether certain that he won't try to make good on sixteen year old death threats if he thinks I'm putting my nose where it doesn't belong."

"Yeah, I can see him doing something... not good," Smoke replied.
"Do you want me to talk to Hitomi, then? I am in the position that people don't tend to ask me how I know things." He smirked humorlessly.

"That would probably be good," he replied. He couldn't help but feel a bit jealous that Smoke could speak so freely with his children when he was stuck watching his every move.
"If you decide to confront Angel, let me know. I would like to be there for that"

He shook his head. "Unless you have any more information from what I've told you, I don't think so."
Hoshi stood, giving Smoke a sad smile. "I should probably be going. Let me know if you find out anything more."
He should probably speak to Ellie about this at some point. Not just yet, but...soon. She had a right to know, and it might help if there was one more person he could trust with this.

"Absolutely," Smoke nodded. "Good luck."
Somehow, this didn't seem to be the end of it...

Hitoshi had been long overdue for a conversation with Professor Smoke. He had needed to speak with him around Halloween, but between the funeral and everything else that had happened, it had been very far from his mind. But the conversations with his grandmother and with Alex about prophecies reminded him of what had happened on Halloween, and he was certain he needed to talk to Professor Smoke about everything that had happened.
He pushed the door open, peeking inside. "Professor Smoke?" he called. He caught sight of the other professor and hesitated. "If you're busy, I can come back later."

Hoshi smiled, standing up. "No, I was just leaving," he announced. He glanced back at Smoke. "If you find any more information on that, don't hesitate to let me know. We can continue our conversation later."
Hoshi slipped quietly out the door, pausing only momentarily to glance back at the young man standing at the door.

"Come on in, boys," he replied.

Hitoshi watched the other professor for a moment, then turned back toward the room. He swallowed, slipping inside the room and taking his seat across from Professor Smoke.
"We had a few things we wanted to ask you about, Professor."

Hitoshi pursed his lips, hesitating. "Earlier in the semester we came to you asking about something, when Alex and I felt like we knew each other. We asked my grandmother about it, and she said something about a prophecy, and...and my mother." He looked at Smoke levelly. "We were wondering if you knew anything more than that."

Smoke tapped his finger against the arm of his chair.
"And your mother, huh? All I know about this prophecy is what I read for you then, and that other people know more than me. If there's something I'm not aware is connected, or you want to ask a more specific question, though..."

"I'd like to know what my mother saw," Hitoshi replied quietly, "and I'd like to know what it meant. From what little I know, this sounds like it goes much further than the two of us. What does it mean?"

"I... have no idea. As far as I know, the only people who saw the original prophecy were your mom, your dad and some other people in your family." He licked his lips. It might be nice to get a drink after this. A drink and one of those British meat-potato pie things Rhythan made earlier today.
"I could attempt to recreate it, or if you want it that badly, I could even let you review it, though that's... potentially problematic, would take a while, and I would have to ask something from you in return."
