Aramis just looked back at the teacher almost challengingly. You aren't going to intimidate me. This is the one class I've been dying to take since I got here, and there is no way in hell you are going to drive me out.
His eyes glanced over and he inwardly groaned. "Keme..." he whispered, rubbing his forehead with one hand. There was no doubt in his mind that it was his roommate who was missing. Then he noticed Euros' sympathetic look and just looked at him in confusion. What? You think I'm going to drop out too? Not a chance in hell.
Aramis couldn't quite place WHY he was so irritated at the looks he was being given, but he was. He was going to study this, and he was only starting with the beginning class because...well, he wasn't stupid enough to try to skip that. Tempting as it was sometimes.
And he wasn't going to give anyone the satisfaction of driving him out of a class. For this, he had possibly as much ambition as Hitoshi. And Aramis was as stubborn as he was shy. More so.

Kemekin knocked on the classroom door a second later, opening the door immediately after. He entered, head down, uncharacteristically quiet, and walked steadily to the professor, into whose hand he pushed a note bearing his aunt's signature.
"Sorry," he muttered. "My tutoring session ran late." With that, he took the seat furthest from the other students.

The resentment was plain on the blond boy's face. Silvius gave a quiet, dry chuckle. The boy didn't quite look the type for traditional necromancy, but he could very well be a healer. He certainly had all the stereotypical signs of one. And, judging from his reaction, the boy would be predictably easy to motivate. The boy would try to push himself to the top of the class out of sheer spite -- if Silvius hadn't lost his touch at teaching, anyway.
He glanced up as the dark haired boy slipped into the room. For a moment, he was quiet, letting the boy find his seat. He stepped past the blond, staring down at the late-comer. "If you've come from a tutoring session," he said, "I trust you have a note."

Kemekin looked up at the professor. His skin was a little pale, and he was obviously tired. Nonetheless his undying snarkiness shone through his pallor in the form of an arched eyebrow.
"It's in your hand, sir," he said, meaning to be polite, though in the tone might have been colored by fatigue.

Silvius straightened, his hand tightening on the slip of paper in his hand. "So it would seem," he replied coolly. He read the note quickly, then looked up at Kemekin over the top of his glasses. He had heard plenty about this one.
"So it seems I have the honor at last of meeting the infamous Kemekin Evans-Barros," he said slowly, carefully enuciating each syllable. Silvius crumpled the note, clasping his hands behind his back. "I have heard much about you from your other teachers, so I will assure you now, I tolerate no impudence or disruptions in my classroom. The very first time you step out of line, I will send you directly to the headmistress." He leaned down to Kemekin's eye level. "Are we clear?"

Kemekin met the professor's eyes fearlessly, opening his mouth to reply. Thankfully he remembered, at that moment, what his aunt had said to him just before sending him off to class:
"Please don't get into trouble with Professor Korlianes. I'll be very angry if you get another detention."
Kemekin closed his mouth and blinked. An angry Ellie was something he hadn't seen in person-- but he wasn't in any mood to gain personal experience. At any rate, this professor seemed stern. But then again, that was usually a mark of a good instructor.
Kemekin smiled. "Crystal clear, sir," he said, giving the man a thumbs-up.

Nina had been watching this exchange over her shoulder, at first worried that something was wrong with Kemekin. He seemed pale. But his response to Professor Korlianes eased her and she grinned for a second before pressing her lips tightly together. Kemekin seemed to have gotten into hot water with the Professor by reputation alone-- it would do him no good to laugh at his antics in this class.

Silvius watched Kemekin for a moment longer, his lips thinning in a tight line. This one was going to give him trouble. He could feel it already.
He turned away, returning to the front of the room. "Though I am sure the majority of you already know, my name is Professor Korlianes," he stated, turning on his heel to face the class. "When you address me, I expect to be called 'professor' or 'sir.' Many of your teachers tolerate or, worse, encourage the sort of gross informality with which you have become accustomed. I promise you, I will not."
Silvius picked up the class roster from his desk, glancing over the names. "When I call your name, raise your hand and answer with a clear, loud 'present'." He looked up, crossing his arms over his chest. "Aramis Aldin," he called.

"Present," Aramis said, his voice steady and clear... and his eyes focused on a point just beyond Professor Korlianes' head. Always the first to be called... though it made it easy for him to speak just once, and then hide silently in the back. In the back, he was less likely to be asked questions, or called up front, but he could listen and learn just as well.
At least, in theory. The way he'd been singled out somewhat in the professor's speech made him think he was going to be singled out a lot. Well then, fine. Aramis knew how to skirt around things fairly well. He'd been doing it at home just as well.

Alex looked over Kemekin, idly nibbling his bottom lip. He decided it was safe enough- and that he was bored enough- to reach out a little and see what was going on.
A soft wave of magic flowed out from him; he visualized it arcing through the air, bouncing against Kemekin's mind, and heading back towards him carrying data. Alex closed his eyes for a moment and breathed in.
Please don't get into tr( )be very angry if you get another detention, Miss Ellie's voice rang back. The echoes of a number of different emotions rang in his ears: frustration, fear, a brassy chill that came from something else caught in his wake, vague nausea, a sweet dark feeling that was reciting formulae in his head- Alex unconsciously grinned- always the first to be called... singled out... fine, doing it at home just as well....
His grin dropped and an odd expression flashed across his face for a moment before carefully schooling his face back to neutral.

Michael sat preening his feathers as Silvius called roll. Abruptly, he paused.
A plan formed in his mind. A wonderful, simple plan. Tonight, the golem would feed.
He went back to preening his feathers.

Silvius continued through the class roster, finding everyone in the class present. With an even eight students, they should split up nicely into two lab groups and four sets of partners. He considered assigning lab partners, but decided it would be more affective after he knew a bit more about his students. He wouldn't want to assign the Evans-Barros boy to work with another troublemaker.
"There are lab tables to your left," he announced. "For today, you will be allowed to choose your groups, though though I wouldn't get used to that liberty. Once you've found your seats, I will explain the experiment we will be performing."

Dubhiarr turned automatically toward Nina. "I'll be your partner... unless you had someone else in mind to ask," she added with a small smile, her eyes darting in Kemekin's direction for a moment. "I'm okay with that."

Aramis glanced at Euros nervously, then glanced at Boreas and nodded. Kemekin would probably partner with Nina, and Aramis really didn't know anyone else... at least he recognized Euros on sight. "S-sure," he managed, scratching the back of his head awkwardly. He gathered his things, which weren't many, and sat by Euros. The room was thankfully somewhat larger than the class, which meant he could easily move so.
He still felt nervous about this, but he was going to get past this and he was going to success in this class. Everyone's apparent doubt just had him more determined.

Boreas sat back, just thankful that neither Notos or the Flower Princess were within a few feet of him. Roll call was taking awhile, he sighed and began making ice drawings on his desk. He watched the desk half-alert as frosty white lines formed pictures then faded. He waited, talking, talking, talking, groups, tal--WHAT? Damn it, Boreas didn't do groups. He sighed looking around. After a few minutes he decided that the future overlord of the world over there was his best bet. He still didn't like working with other people though. "Hey, Hitoshi. You aren't an idiot and I appreciate that rare attribute. Want to work together?" The air within a few feet of was frigid. He knew that probably wasn't helping with the forced socialization.

Post by Hitoshi Gilespi on Apr 19, 2010 21:08:14 GMT -5
Hitoshi had never particularly cared for group projects. Other people had a tendency to get in his way, and even worse, it forced him to socialize with his classmates. Of course, now that he had Alex in most of his classes, it was a bit different.
Hitoshi had opened his mouth to reply to Alex when Boreas caught his attention. He glanced over at the other young man. Hitoshi had never seen him before today, though he was well aware of who he was -- most everyone in the school was familiar with the infamous Aetai family.
Boreas looked nothing like either of his brothers, though it was easier to connect him with Notos than Zephyros. He looked Notos' polar opposite, almost like a negative of his brother; he was unusually pale for someone from Greece, and his dark hair had a strange blue sheen.
Hitoshi glanced back at Alex, then shrugged one shoulder. Boreas was as good as anyone, he supposed. "Alright," he replied complacently.
He grabbed his pencil and binder, making his way to the first lab table and taking the seat closest to the front of the room.

"Wonderful." Someone wanted to team up with Hitoshi? Great! The boy needed more friends. He grabbed his things and headed over to the lab table himself, this time actually getting the seat next to Hitoshi.
He looked over what was set up on the table, trying to figure out what they were supposed to do today.

Nina smiled at Dubhiarr. "You asked first, my dear," she said, beginning to gather her things. "Looks like were partners."

Dubhiarr smiled back as she gathered up her own things. A hint of sadness nudged at the edge of her mind; it felt strange to be called "dear" by Nina when she knew Nina didn't feel for her the same way Dubhiarr felt for Nina. Though she still wasn't sure how she felt for Nina, or Stephen for that matter. At least she knew Nina was taken, and that made it easier to push down her affection for her. Attraction. Whatever.
She pushed the thoughts away, getting settled down at one of the lab tables next to Nina, getting very curious. What kind of project were they going to be doing?

Euros beamed beatifically at Aramis and moved his things over to the opposite table beside the boy, then looked over at Nina and Dubhiarr.
"Would you ladies like to join us, then?"

Nina grinned, never one to turn down a friendly offer. "Surely," she chimed, tapping her pencil on the table a few times. She glanced over a Kemekin and her brow furrowed momentarily. She forced herself back to the conversation, though, and brought her smile back in full.

Aramis bit the edge of a thumbnail thoughtfully, his eyes focused on the tabletop. He shifted awkwardly, growing desperate for the professor to start the experiment. If this is a social experiment, I'm going to scream. Silently. In my head. While burying my face into a pillow.
He kept worrying at his nail, though without actually biting through it. He hated working like this. Much preferred single work.

Kemekin stifled a yawn, rubbed his eyes, and stood up. He gathered his things, smiled over at Nina and Dubhiarr, and went to sit in the free seat at the other table. He would have liked to have worked with the girls, but at least this way he was sure he could at least keep his focus.
Kemekin's head ached a bit. He bent sideways to get his glasses out of his backpack and put them on, running a hand through his hair to wake himself up.
