The sounds from the student lounge could be heard echoing halfway down the hall.
It was a Saturday morning, and Jack had woken up at around five AM and been unable to get back to sleep. His body was still on his summer schedule, with Thrall's habit of waking everyone up at the crack of dawn and slamming breakfast down in front of them, as well as from the bone-deep feeling that somewhere, it was a glorious sunny day and he should be out in it. Here at Dunehelden, on the other hand, the sky was an overcast-looking luminous gray-blue, so he had taken his game system and dragged it into the student lounge to hook it up to the big flatscreen.
That was a couple of hours ago, and he was getting antsy.

It was normally far too early for Ai to be up and about, but here she was. Light sandals made almost no sound on the stone floors as she walked. Maybe there would be someone interesting in the student lounge.
As she walked in, she couldn't help but smile brightly at Jack. "Hello there Jack. You, my dear cousin, look bored. Finished your game?"
She folded herself gracefully onto a couch, grinning at him.

Jack sat up with a start and paused his game.
"Wuh- hey! Hell yes; how're you?"

"Bored to tears and up far too early," she grinned. "Never was that fond of mornings... But I couldn't sleep anymore."
She leaned an elbow against the couch arm, propping her cheek against her fist. "Though I guess it's not that surprising that I don't like daytime in general, eh? What're you doing up so early anyway?"
She flicked off an imaginary speck of dust from his shoulder, reaching over to fix his collar. "And you're a bit of a mess, cousin dear."

Xiaotao had gotten far better bearings on the castle since being shown around by Kyu and Akio the afternoon before. At least, she could get where she needed to for now. However, during the tour they had not spent much time in the student lounge. It had been empty at the time.
However, now as Xiaotao walked by it, she saw that it was occupied. Always one for expanding social circles, Xiaotao stood in the doorway, tucking her hair behind her ears.
"Nihao," she said cheerily. She leaned forward a bit to glance at the television screen, then returned her gaze to the two students inside. She smiled.

Jack brushed her hand away with a smirk. "Sorry, I didn't expect to be entertaining the Queen of England this morning. That reminds me, I haven't been caffeinated yet."
He turned towards the head who'd just popped in; ooh, she was new. Cute, too. He stood up. "Hey there. Want to take second player?"

Xiaotao beamed at him. She took the proffered controller and looked at the screen. "Only if I can have the kunai chain as my weapon," she said, chuckling.

"Kunai it is. I like the guy who can dual-wield longswords," he grinned. "So what's your name? I'm Jack."

Xiaotao went through character options and customized on a whim, saying as she did so, "He-Hongui--comma--Xiaotao, at your service."

Ai just grinned at Jack, "Queen of England? So I'm some stuffy old woman now? Jack, you wound me," she said, dramatically putting a hand over her heart and sitting up. "Hello Xiaotao... did I say that right?... I'm Aikaterina, call me Ai."
She watched the two of them set up their characters. It was almost more fun to watch people play video games than to play them herself. For one thing, she wasn't very good at them. And constantly losing was nowhere near as fun as watching others who were more evenly matched.
