Yuki heard a scratching at his door. He hurriedly went to the door, almost tripping over a stack of sheet music in the process.
He opened the door, shocked at the person on the other side. "Chris?" he whispered. What was she doing there?

Chris, hand still raised in the act of taping the disk to the door, flashed a boy a huge smile. Then she turned on her heel and left at a brisk walk down the hallway.

Yuki was confused, most utterly so. But what the hell. He went to his cd player and put on his bright blue headphones. His eyes widened in a mixture of awe, shock and horror. He only needed to listen to the first two seconds to realize what this was. The drums he needed for his composition . . . which meant . . .
He flung his headphones down and raced out the door after her. "WAIT!!" he shouted when he was almost to her, though when he did so it sounded more like a gravely rasp.

Chris had nearly reached the end of the corridor before she heard Yuki barrel out of his room. She rolled her weight forward on her toes, prepared to run away, but his "WAIT!!" stopped her dead in her tracks. She turned, slowly, to face him.

Yuki was not expecting her to turn towards him. He was barely able to move his head so his nose would not collide with her forehead. Then he ran into her and they both went toppling to the ground. "owwww," he muttered quietly, "That hurt."

Chris made a small nmf! at the collision, and coughed when his weight landed atop her.
"Ooch! That--" She grimaced. "If my laptop got hurt in the fall, I'm going to break your nose."

Yuki flipped his bangs out of his face and looked down at her bag. "It's fine, I assure you," he muttered shifting his weight so he wasn't on top of her anymore. "But I have a very important question for you," urgency was apparent in his voice but not his features.

Chris stared at Yuki, waiting for him to elaborate. There were probably enough things in her bag to pad her laptop, especially given that it was encased in a computer sleeve, but if there was anything wrong with it she was going to go after Yuki first.

"I know you were in the music room, there's no other way you would've known," he paused and swallowed. He bowed his head so his bangs hid his face. "J-just tell me," he cleared his throat to keep it from breaking, "How long were you listening?"

Chris huffed, feeling an indignant blush creep into her cheeks.
"I hadn't meant to listen in," she insisted. "But I heard you warming up, and... I was curious." She pushed herself up on her elbows, then to a standing position. "I'm sorry if I heard something I shouldn't have."

Yuki sighed. Dammit. "Which violin was I using?" he asked his voice dry. He was trying to hold himself together. What if she had seen . . .

Chris picked up her bag and slung it neatly over her shoulder.
"The green acoustic."

Yuki stiffened and his eyes went wide again. She HAD seen! "G'bye," he said quickly as he leaped up from the floor and dashed down the hallway towards his room, cursing in his head the entire way.

Chris blinked, and on impulse followed the boy. She reached the door just as it was closing, and put her foot in the doorway so that it could not be slammed.
She didn't know why she'd done it. But now that she was here, she wanted to know.
"Wait," she said, as calmly as she could with a door on her foot, "Are... are you okay? I mean..." she fought to find the words, but none came. There was a sadness in that music that couldn't be from whim. That was the kind of sadness that someone had to go through to feel it.

"W-what is it?" Yuki managed to choke out. He stared down at her foot. He wouldn't dare look her in the face. Not after that.

Chris sighed. She had no right to ask. And she had intruded on him.
Chris shook her head, adjusted the bag on her shoulder, and stepped away. "Never mind." With that, she turned and walked back down the hall.

Yuki stood there for a few seconds . . . and realized he didn't want her to leave. "W-wait," Yuki said as he opened the door and stared after her, "P-please . . . just come in."

Chris sucked in her lower lip and chewed on it. "I had no right to listen in," she told him calmly, turning to face him but walking backwards to continue her exit. "I'll leave you alone now."

"N-No!" he shouted. He was surprised by the power in his own voice and the hurt in it. He shook his head to clear it. "P-please, come in," he said gesturing with his head to the door, "I have to thank you some how."

Chris's eyebrows shot up. What?!
He'd looked like he was about to cry a second ago. Thank her?
Chris furrowed her brow and quirked her lips to one side, slowly approaching the door again and pausing, watching Yuki before slipping into the room.

Yuki rubbed his forehead. "F-for the cd, I-I mean," he muttered, "God, words really hate me."

Chris quirked her lips to one side. "You're welcome," she said, slowly. She raked one hand through her hair and sighed.
"Listen, I really am sorry if I walked in on something. You obviously use your music as a way to express yourself where you can't with words." Her lips twisted into something like a wry grin. She did the same thing-- she would know. "But what I heard... that's not something that a composer just pulls out of their a-- I mean, gets from thin air." Her look became serious. "Something happened to you, didn't it?"
Not that it was her business.
Not that she could help at all.
But still.

Yuki closed the dorm door behind Chris with a stern grip. There was no turnign back now. She'd seen him play THAT song. Yuki supposed it was only natural to be curious. After all, she did witness the "unemotional quiet kid" cry.
"Y-you're going to want to sit down," Yuki said, his voice uneasy. He hurriedly began to move his books and stacks of sheet music off to one side. He cleared a small trail from the door to his bed.
Gripping the top of his comforter he lifted it inot the air to shake it once, amplifying the vibrations in the air to knock everything off of it. At least twenty more pages of sheet music (many half blotted out with pen), a Vivaldi book, two history books, an advanced calculus book, and an empty milkshake cup toppled to the floor. He spread the comforter back over the top of his matress and gestured for her to sit.

Chris took a tentative seat on the floor and picked up a big stuffed turquoise fox. Petting its ears idly, she looked up at Yuki, waiting.

Yuki blinked a few times and arched an eyebrow. "On the floor?" he asked tilting his head to one side. Then he shook his head and shrugged, "Whatever makes you comfortable."
He sat on the bed. One leg dangling off the side and the other knee curled up to his chest. He wrapped both armes around his one knee and sighed. This might be difficult. "I'm guessing you figured out that the song was a story?"
