Chris watched him with no change in her expression.
"Like I said, that's not something someone just pulls out of their ass." She met his eyes steadily.

Just as he had thought. She was a very clever girl. "It's a story about my past," he cleared his throat and coughed slightly, "I'll tell you on a few conditions." He looked at her, his grey eyes very serious. "I ask only that you don't tell anyone and that you don't call me an 'emo kid'", he gurrowed his brows, "whatever that phrase is supposed to mean. I've just gathered that I don't want to be one."

Chris hugged the stuffed fox to her chest. "I don't tell secrets," she promised. "Ever."
Then the tiniest of smirks played across her lips. "And trust me, if I thought you were an emo kid, I would have kicked you by now."

Yuki smiled. "I suppose I'll take taht as a complement," he said his voice losing it's frost. He bowed his head and took a deep breath. "whe-when I was little, everything was fine. Mom and dad loved each other and the three of us were very happy. And then something happened. I'm not too sure what it was, I was either too young to understand or she didn't know what was going on either," he began to explain. He had to clear his throat again, he refused to cry in front of Chirs, again. "So, she sent me away, to an orphange, I never heard from her since. Even after I was adopted, I-I promised myself that I would become a son she would be proud of, a-a man. A-and that I would g-go back and get her," he had to bite his lip for a few minutes to keep his self from sobbing. He closed his eyes to focus and then opened them keeping his eyes down. He couldn't look at her. "I found out, he coughed out, "after I had been adopted by Natsu and Doucan for about a year, that my father had gone crazy and killed my mother and then died of an overdose."
He paused.
"I quit talking after that," he whispered, "Words wouldn't work the way they used to." His eyes trailed over to the two violin cases resting on their stands beside the head of his bed. "Then, Natsu suggested that I compose to express myself," he said a smile tuggin at the right corner of his mouth, "and that's the only ay I can truly express myself."
He closed his eyes and sighed. It was over, he had explained everything. A single tear fell down from the corner of his eye down his nose. He wiped it away fand looked down at Chris. "Well," he said with a shrug, "now you know."

The more sympathetic part of Chris's mind was tearing up by the time Yuki got to the end of his story. But the part of her mind that made her go by "Chris" instead of "Melanie" knew that that was not what the situation called for. It didn't know what the situation did call for, but on an impulse Chris stood, took a seat on the bed next to Yuki, and pulled the boy into a firm hug. He hadn't had to tell her anything, but the fact that he had confided in her made her instantly protective of the lad.

Yuki was surprised. A pink flush came across his pale cheeks and he shakily wrapped his arms around her. "I'm sorry," he whispered, "if I made you uncomfortable."

Chris shook her head and patted the boy's shoulder. "I think you're one who's more uncomfortable here," she announced, unabashed. "It took a lot for you to share that. I promise I will never, ever speak of it." She nodded to reaffirm her statement, then held Yuki out at arm's length.
"I know I have no clue the amount of shit you must have gone through," she lowered her brow and met Yuki's gaze in a solid look, "but you pulled through. That makes you strong." again, that shadow of a smirk. "And if anyone speaks down to you for it, I'll run them headlong into a wall."

Yuki bit his lip, twitched and bent over and laughed. Actually laughed. What was it about his girl that made him so comfortable. "Thank you," he managed to choke out. He looked her in the eyes and smiled.
"Oh," he said remembering the cd from earlier, "And thank you for the cd. H-how did you make it?'

Chris smiled. She had been aiming to get a laugh. She closed her eyes and nodded once in a modest you're welcome.
"Ah. Yes. That." She pressed her pinkie to her lips in a shhh gesture. "Ancient ninja secret. But if you promise not to tell, I'll share." She winked. "You'd be only the second person to see. Ever."

Yuki nodded. "Yeah, after what you did for me," he smiled at her, looking at her out of the corner of his eye, "anything." He waited intently for the rest of the story.

Chris chewed on her lower lip and bent to pick up the fox again. She held the stuffed animal to her chest and looked ahead, at the wall and not at Yuki.
She took a short breath and started off with a choppy scratch-back, into a popped bass rhythm and worked from there.

A smile spread across Yuki's mouth. Yuki stood up next to her and moved the stuffed fox so he had access to were her vocal cords were. "Hey, do me a favor," he said, the smile still on his face, "trust me and do that again." He carefully placed his index and middle finger over her throat. "Go."

Chris raised her eyebrows, but lifted her chin to give him access to her throat. She took another short breath and went into a clicking tune that quickly morphed into a scratch-back.

Yuki smirked and started working his power. He amplified Chris' vibrations of her vocal cords on beat to give it a pulsing effect. He watched her face, waiting to see her reaction.

Chris arched an eyebrow and her eyes widened, but she didn't stop. So that was the magic she had sensed when he'd been playing.
She got to the end of one set and had to stop-- the amplification was tickling her throat.

Yuki smiled and removed his hand from her throat. "What do you think?" he asked unable to hide a hint of excitement from his voice.

Chris rubbed her throat and grinned. "That's..." she didn't really know what to say. "That's a handy trick to have, Mr. Vibrato."

"I suppose handy is a good word for it," Yuki said, sitting back down onto his bed, "I didn't feel like keeping my fathers last name so Natsu picked a new one for me."
He flipped his hair out of his face and tried to smile, he really wasn't used to it. "I'm glad you like it. I really like that you can do that with your voice," his eyes softened, "you're very tallented."

Chris slapped her palms to either side of her face and beamed in a clear caricature of bashfulness.
"You're too kind," she teased. Then she grimaced and rubbed her cheeks. She had actually double-slapped herself rather forcefully.
"It's just a thing," she said then, more earnestly. "Both of my parents sing. I mean, I like to sing too, but I don't like the sound of it. Not on its own." She gave a sincere grin, which quickly turned rather devilish. She pursed her lips and started off with a soft buzzing, then a short beat that ran together into a tune. A familiar tune that sounded like an electric violin. Chris made a noise like a scratching record and added beats and clicks below the tune, continuing to beatbox the second song that Yuki had played earlier, in the band room, on his electric violin.

Yuki's eyes widdened and a smile spread across his features. "Heh," he chuckled looking down at the floor, "looks like you don't really need an instrument to make it's sound." He looked at his violin cases then up at Chris. He leaned over so his elbow rested on his knee. "I'm slightly jealous, and I don't think I've said that to anyone before, ever."

Chris finished the song with a whistle and beamed at Yuki.
"In that case," she said jovially, with a little bow, "I am honored that you are jealous of me. However, it is rather difficult to dance effectively and beatbox at the same time. I only have so much breath to use."

Yuki arched an eyebrow, "Dance?" He looked off to the side and chewed on his lower lip. "I don't recall dancing being in our topic of conversation," he muttered as his cheeks began to flush.
That's right, if she saw him play then she must have seen him dance. Multiple curses went through Yuki's head.

Chris shrugged. She tapped the side of her skull lightly with a polished fingernail, smirking at the lad. She saw his blush and chuckled.
"You get flustered at the oddest times," she commented brightly. The grin slipped from her face. Time. Then she arched an eyebrow, pulled her cellphone from the pocket of her baggy jeans to check the time, and swore under her breath.
"Ah. Sorry Yuki. I have to go." She put her phone back into the pocket and backed towards the door. "I've got a meeting set up with someone, and if I'm late they're not gonna be too happy with me." She turned the doorknob lightly and popped the door open, then paused to look back at the boy, one foot already in the hallway.
"But I'd like to hang with you again. You're pretty chill. We should jam sometime." She smirked again. "When I'm not threatening my history homework with its life."

Yuki followed her to the door and opened it all the way for her to exit. He gave her a small smile. "Oh, it's fine," he commented, "It would be nice to acctually play with other people."
He raised an eyebrow at her last comment. "I-if you want any help in history, just let me know," he said, "I don't mind."

Chris's eyebrows lifted.
"That's nice of you." She grinned. "Yeah... Yeah, I might take you up on that offer. Heh. Thanks~!"
She stepped out into the hallway, gave Yuki one last smile, and made as if to leave before dashing back into the room to pick up her backpack.
"Can't leave this," she muttered, then laughed. "Okay. Skedaddlin' for real this time. Bye."
