"Feel free to call on me any time," SaeRyun said with an eager smile. He could see the look of excitement in Vincent's eyes as well. Ah, how kindred their spirits seemed to be.
"Maybe you should write a book about it," he said, thoughtful, "Your adventure that is. I, for one, would read it." How exciting the whole thing was. Discovering the unknown, Finding out what lay just beyond the horizon of opportunity.

Vincent laughed. "If I ever have such an adventure, I'm certain I will. It may not measure up to the epic scale of Tolkien's works, but I will do my best," he grinned. "At least it will be a true story."

Diana watched the two men in silence, smiling to herself. Seeing Vincent perform his new magic on Sae was quite intriguing; she had never seen him do that before. It amazed her, the sort of power mages had over the world. Vincent's power certainly seemed unique -- were the words what was important, or was it as much about intent? It was a strange and wonderful thing, and she hoped someday that he reached his full potential as a mage.
Now she grinned, looking back and forth between the two and reading their lips. Catching Vincent's eye, she signed to him. When exactly do you plan on going on some epic adventure into who-knows-where? We have a school year to finish, you know, not to mention a wedding coming up.

Vincent's grin widened as he read Diana's hands and spoke in reply. "Of course I intend to finish the semester, and follow through with our wedding. I'm not entirely sure if I'll even end up having such an adventure. It was only speculation. Real life is quite dramatic and adventurous enough, especially in this place."

Sae smiled fondly at the couple and said, "I think the wedding will be an adventure in itself. You two will be starting a new life together and that can have it's own hardships and exciting moments."
He looked at Vincent and mused, "It would make an interesting book though. I have always prefered true stories to fiction, but fiction is generally more exciting."

"Oh, I don't doubt that for a moment," Vincent replied with a grin, glancing fondly at Diana and slipping his hand into hers before turning his attention back to Sae.
"And who says fiction has to be more exciting than reality? A few weeks of living here and you'll probably crave the normality of the outside world. It's a strange and beautiful world we live in, inside or outside of Faerie. Anything can be an adventure if you look at it the right way."

Sae looked at the two lovers. Yes, they were very much in love, even a blind person could feel it.
"I will just have to see," he replied, "I have lived a semi normal life for fourty years, I feel as if I could use some adventure." He nodded his agreement, "Yes life is a beautiful and precious gift, only if we live it to the fullest of our abilites."
He pondered Vincent's last statement and smiled, "I'll keep that 'Anything can be an adventure' quote in mind when I assign homework to my students." He couldn't help but laugh. "I'm sure they will not view it as such."

Vincent nodded slowly. Yes, life was indeed a gift, and it seemed even more precious to mortals, who lived such fleeting lives, than to vampires, who could live on for millennia and not change with time. He thought of Christine, taken from him in her prime of life, but always a precious part of him. Unconsciously he gripped Diana's hand a little tighter, not wanting to think of the possibility of having to let her go too soon.
Sae's next words pulled him quickly out of the mire of angst he'd begun to sink into, and he smiled again. "No, indeed? I think you should encourage your students to have fun with their assignments. It's no good trying to teach them something if they're bored by it. Let them play with things a little. Music is fun like that -- why else would they call it 'playing'?"

A smile curled across Sae's lips. "True, Professor," he said, "Acting is also 'players' playing to produce a 'play'." Oh wit, he felt like he had some.
He looked down at the floor, remembering his first acting experiance. "Acting is pretty much older people going back to their youth and playing 'make-believe' or 'pretend'," he said quietly, "There are very few occupations where it's you job to be a child. I've always liked that about my work."

Vincent smiled. "That's very true, too. I've never understood why children find it so desirable to grow up. Age and responsibility will come soon enough, and there's no need to rush things. They should have the chance to be children while they can. They deserve all the time they can get in their own little worlds of pretend. For adults, it can be a refreshing thing to return to, to let go of all their worries and be someone else for a while.
"Being a father has taught me a lot about that, too," he added, grinning. "In order to fully interact with a child, you need to understand how that child thinks and feels, how he or she views the world. That's the way it is with any interpersonal relationship. It's all about understanding -- to 'walk a mile in their shoes', as they say."

Sae's eyes softened for a moment as he listened to Vincent. "I'm glad to see that there are understanding fathers in the world," he said, "I try to be fatherly towards my ward, but not having any previous experiance has left me a little short handed in some occasions. The fact that she is female and we have that gender gap tends to not help things either."
He looked at Diana and continued, "I apologize but I find the female psyche a very confusing and dangerious place to venture into."

Vincent smiled. "There is something to be said for experience. Raising a daughter on my own, with help only from my brother and our parents, was quite a challenge. The onset of her puberty was probably the most difficult thing thus far -- something for which I am eternally grateful to my mother for helping me through." He fought back a grin of embarrassment at the memories of his awkward attempt to explain all of those things to Ariel, and shook his head silently.
"But all in all, I think Ariel turned out alright," he continued with a soft laugh. "She sees Diana as the mother she always dreamed of having, which is more than I could have hoped for. Ariel has been living here with me for as long as I've been teaching here, so we both met Diana at about the same time. Needless to say we both love her."

Diana winced a little as Vincent held her hand probably a little more tightly than he meant to, watching the two men's mouths as they spoke to each other. She smiled quietly at Sae's little joke, but couldn't see what he said just afterward, with his head being tilted toward the floor. She caught his glance after he spoke again, though, and had to grin. Men and women were indeed very different creatures.
She watched as Vincent spoke fondly of Ariel, able to see his love for her written across his face. She couldn't help but smile at the mention of Ariel beginning puberty -- she could only imagine the awkwardness of a man explaining such things to a young girl. Thank goodness for his mother, indeed.
Diana blushed a bit as Vincent's words were directed more toward her, and squeezed his hand in quiet appreciation as she signed with her other hand. I love you both, too.

"That is very fortunate for you," Sae comented, "My ward was changed just short of her seventeenth birthday, so I often feel like I'm constanly fighting her hormones."
He ran a hand through his hair remembering some of the fithts he and Ash had gotten into. But they had both survived, that was a good sign.
He saw the two exchange looks and smiled. They looked as if they were in their own little world. Part of Sae felt as if he should leave the two of them alone to remember and just be in love. Indeed, what a wonderful feeling that was.

Vincent laughed and shook his head again. "Ah, yes, the dreaded hormones. I've grappled with those as well. Not to mention that my dear daughter inherited my stubborn streak, so there's that to contend with as well. We get along well, though -- in the unfortunate, almost total absence of her mother's side of the family in our lives, Ariel has grown quite close to my brother and I.
"She'll be turning sixteen this November," he commented thoughtfully. "I'm still trying to decide what to give her for such a special birthday. Somehow I'm not sure a car would be the most practical thing to give her here, though it does seem to be the traditional gift."

Sae nodded and replied, "I understand handling stubborn. Ash and I constantly butt heads and there seems to be no way around it." He fell into his own thoughts. He had met . . .Well, Ash had found him about thirty years ago and they had clashed really badly then, thankfully now most of their disagreements could just be that, disagreements.
At the mention of Ariel's mother's side of the family not having much to do with the child, Sae tilted his head to one side slightly in curiosity. But now was not the time to ask about such things. If Vincent felt that he should know then Sae was sure that the professor would tell him.
He touched his fingertips to his chin, thoughtfully. "A car would not be very advisable, or so I would think. She wouldn't be able to use it here. What kind of things does she like?"

Vincent looked toward the ceiling for a moment as he thought. "She's at least as much of a musicophile as I am, and quite an avid reader. I know she's waiting for the next book in a certain series to come out, but I have no idea if it will be out by her birthday. I might get her an iPod instead; she's constantly borrowing mine," he laughed. "It's a good thing we have similar tastes in music."
He looked back at Sae with a smile. "i don't think you've told me much about your ward before. How long have you known her?"

Sae smiled. "It's always good to have things in common with your children . . .or so I would think."
He straightened a little as to the question of his ward, his smile becoming soft. "Her name is Ash," he started, "I'm not exactly sure how, but she found me about thirty years ago. She more or less followed me for a few years and finally we talked.
She told me a little about herself, but she is still a mystery to me. It was like Fate had sent her to smack reality back in my face and she does do that on multiple occasions." He chuckled. Yes, Ash was definitely one of a kind.

Vincent nodded, smiling a little in spite of himself. Dealing with an eternal teenager must be ten times as hard as dealing with one who would eventually grow up.
"I can see how she would be a handful," he remarked with a chuckle. "At least my Ariel will eventually grow up, unlike your Ash." He wondered briefly why, in their thirty years of knowing each other, Ash had told Sae so little about herself. But maybe it wasn't Vincent's place to wonder.
"I know what you mean about Fate sending people to smack sense into you," he grinned. "I've met people like that." Korlian, for one. Vincent could still recall the boy's exact words that had convinced Vincent to take off his mask for good. Sometimes the best help came from the least likely places, or the least expected.

Sae saw the question in Vincent's moment of thought and he added, "She likes to think that what her life was like before she was turned is no longer important. She is who she is now and she's not going to let anything from her past affect her future." He smiled at remembering their conversation discussing the issue. He could see her standing in front of him, her arms crossed and that certain glare that she often got when she was mildly annoyed. "I can't much blame her for wanting to think that way," he said, "Since that is one of the very few ways you can live after this kind of thing happens to you."
He smiled softly at Vincent. "Fate has an odd sense of humor," he said with a chuckle, "People come into your life for different reasons but all of them are important."

Vincent nodded quietly in response to Sae's words about Ash. Ash's way of coping with her change made a lot of sense; it wasn't as though she could go back to what or who she had been, so why waste energy thinking about it? It didn't work in all situations, of course, but one did what one had to in order to survive.
He smiled at Sae's next words. "Fate's sense of humor is certainly twisted, if anything. But I think she's just, not cruel. Though she certainly doesn't seem that way all the time."

"It's hard to tell with her sometimes," Sae replied with a soft smirk, "She is a woman and women are apt to changing their minds." He quickly glanced at Diana and said, "No offence meant, Ms. . . Hawk, I suppose would be the proper term."
He smiled at Vincent. Both of them must be so happy.

Diana couldn't help but laugh at Sae's comments on her gender. It was true, men and women were two distinct creatures -- they sometimes seemed completely alien to one another.
No offense taken, she signed with a smile, as Vincent translated for her. I'm not Mrs. Hawk yet, though I might as well be. It would probably be easier for you to call me that anyway, rather than having me give you my maiden name, and then needing to forget it in a couple of weeks.

"My thoughts exactly," Sae replied to Diana with a smile.
A thought randomly struck him. He looked at Vincent and inquired, "I'm not sure if you've told me this or not, but is Ariel participating in the wedding as well?"

"Indeed she is," Vincent answered, grinning. "She's going to be the maid of honor. My niece is going to be a bridesmaid, and her boyfriend is going to be a groomsman. I do wish my brother could be here for this, or I would have made him my best man, but it can't be helped. Bolin is going to be my best man -- I've mentioned him before. He saved me from that Merrow in Sacramento. Unseelie bitch," he added under his breath, turning his face away from Diana for a moment so she couldn't see his mouth.
"All in all," he continued brightly, looking at them both with a grin, "I think it's shaping up to be a huge success. I, for one, am extremely excited. I only hope the weather will be kind enough to let us have the ceremony outside in the courtyard, like we've been planning. If the sun won't shine for us, the best we can hope for is that it won't rain."
