François gave a little yelp at the laugh and darted around Allan so that he stood between him and Joelle. He huddled close to Allan's foot, quivering all over and whining softly.
Allan automatically reached down to comfort his pet, looking up at the Wicked Witch and grinning at her cackle. "Not if I get you first, and destroy your beautiful wickedness!" He winked at her and laughed as he straightened up, then walked away, calling for François to heel.

Dubhiarr nodded. "Don't worry about it. Funny how some animals bond with their owners like that. I had a cat once that was as aloof as anything. Wouldn't go near me unless he smelled food on me. But then, cats are weird like that." She shrugged. "Some are, anyway."
She was quiet for a while, trying to think of other things to talk about that wouldn't leave Aramis brooding about his family. Swallowing, she realized her throat was rather dry.
"I'm getting a bit thirsty -- think I'll grab myself some cider. Do you want anything while I'm over there?"

Aramis grinned. "I had a barn cat once that decided I was its best friend. It probably pined for a while when I left, but it didn't like me enough to follow me into a rainstorm, so I guess its loyalty was only for the hand that fed it."
He shook his head, smiling. "Thanks, but no. I'm going to take advantage of the fact that I'm legal in most of the world and finish that glass of wine I had when you grabbed me."

Dubhiarr nodded, smirking. "Fair enough. Be right back."
She stepped away from him and headed toward the snack table, browsing over the drinks pouring herself a cup of chocolate milk and sipping it slowly; cold drinks did more for thirst than hot ones. Her eyes wandered toward the door, wondering who would come in next, and as whom. This couldn't be everyone who had intended to come.

Nina stood in the doorwway and nibbled on the tips of her fingers as she looked around. The party seemed to be in full swing, and she was suddenly very self-conscious in her costume. Seele and Haneul had conspired against her-- she had been dressed in a little white ruffled dress, her hair curled into ringlets and swaths of blush swiped across her cheeks. She wasn't sure where they had gotten the idea of forcing her to be Shirley Temple for Halloween, but she'd be damned if they were going to attempt to send her along. There was no hope of trying to get Haneul to come alone-- he avoided crowds when he could. But Seele would never miss a chance to dress up. Where was she?

Dubhiarr grinned when she saw Nina standing in the doorway of the hall, dressed in an adorable Shirley Temple costume. She raised the hand that wasn't holding her cup and waved her friend over.
"Ninaaa~!"

Aramis returned to the table where he had set his wine and took a sip, then looked up when he heard Du call out. He saw Nina and grinned, waving as well. She looked about as uncomfortable with her costume as he had, poor girl.
As he mostly still was, to be honest. Seeing that Nina appeared to be looking for someone in particular, he shrugged slightly and glanced around himself. Aritha and Rudeth were dancing... Hey was that...
Yes it was. Zephyros in a very yellow dress with brown hair Disney appears to be the theme of the night, and so that had to be Jason in a very convincing Beast costume... The adults were still in a cluster around the snack table, the boy who'd put on all the Lady Gaga and what Aramis assumed was his boyfriend were also dancing...
If Aramis thought he could get away with it, he probably would try to sneak out soon, but he noticed Aritha looking at him pointedly as he watched the door and realized it was not going to be possible. Sighing slightly, he just watched the room and sipped at his wine.

Seele walked up behind Nina just as she heard Dubhiarr call the blond over. She stooped low to whisper directly in her ear-- "Go play, Shirley!"-- and gave her a gentle push into the room.
The Shirley Temple costume had been mostly her fault. Mostly. Haneul had played a part in convincing Nina to let Seele curl her hair and blush her cheeks.
Seele's costume was not nearly as nostalgic as Nina's. It was somewhere between Dominatrix and Dark Knight, with spike-studded leather and chain mail pulled apart in a pattern that simulated fishnet. She was barefoot, and her hair had been pulled back in five thick braids decorated with metal bands and chains.
Haneul had christened the getup "World's Worst Babysitter" and laughed at her when she'd suggested she lead him down to the party on a leash.
Oh well.

Liam looked up as he heard Dubhiarr call Nina's name, and saw the tiny blonde enter the hall, followed closely by a girl he soon recognized as Seele, wearing a rather unusual costume. Grinning, he made his way over to her, still walking the Jack Sparrow walk, and stopped in front of her.
"Evenin', lassie," he said in a passable imitation of the pirate's voice. "Care to dance?" He held out a hand to her.

Seele smiled and attempted a curtsy, which turned out to be a rather menacing gesture with her costume.
"T'would be an honor, Captain," she chuckled, laying her hand onto his palm. Just then yet another Gaga song came on-- which one, Seele couldn't name. They all sounded the same to her.
"You make for a handsome Jack Sparrow," she added, smirking. "You even have the walk-- bravo!"

Liam chuckled too, reverting back to his own voice. "Took me a long time to perfect. The costume was hard to put together, but really fun. Let's dance." He bowed to her and led her out onto the dance floor, not knowing what song was playing, but willing to have fun nonetheless.

Post by Aurelia "Aura" Valdez on Oct 21, 2010 12:49:46 GMT -5
Aura's costume was far from the most elaborate, but if she had thought she would be getting away with wearing a store-bought costume, she was dead wrong. Jaymie had insisted on designing her costume for her, which she supposed was just as well. It was always difficult to find clothes that were shaped for her figure. Aura had at least, by some miracle, managed to constrain him to something that was almost normal-looking, though he had--as expected--added his own twist on what she had requested.
The dress was black and knee-length, with sequins that alternated between black and gray. It was sleeveless and shapeless, and if not for the fluffy tail that had been sewn on the back, it would have looked like a normal flapper dress. As it was, she looked about halfway between a flapper and a raccoon.
Her hair had grown out a bit recently, just long enough to form a short bob. The strands in the front began to curl in slightly around her face, hugging her chin. Aura didn't like it quite this long, but it was much more suited to her costume than her spiky pixie-cut.
Aura scanned the dance floor. Jaymie was off to one side, probably waiting for his girlfriend. Frankly, with the way he was dressed, she wouldn't blame Hitomi if she decided to skip out. Seriously, what was he even supposed to be? He looked like pop culture threw up on him. (Actually, that might have been what Jaymie was going for.)
Jesus, was there enough Disney here? There were two princesses for every elf. It made Aura wish just a little that she had opted to dress as her World of Warcraft character instead. Still, there was nothing to be done for it.
Aura had every intention of hijacking that jukebox in a few minutes, though she had no idea if what she'd want to listen to would even be in the options. "Random techno-noise" wasn't exactly a common music taste. She just hoped Jaymie wouldn't decide to fill the queue with Frank Sinatra or something.
Who else was -- oh. Dubhiarr was standing over near the refreshments. Aura had to admit, she looked really pretty as an elf. The look really suited her.
She grinned and waved over at the other girl. "Hey, Dubhiarr!"

Post by Carmen Oloran on Oct 21, 2010 16:32:28 GMT -5
Carmen looked around as he swept into the great hall. He was a Jedi this Halloween, dressed in brown robes with tan tunic and pants, and some leather armor he had fashioned in the past few weeks. Some longer stands of his hair on the right side were braided down to about shoulder length.
Spotting, or more like hearing Rudeth and Thrall he headed over. Within a few feet of Thrall he drew two silver hilts from his belt. Concentrating slightly he willed a thin wire mesh gathered at the base of the saber to snake up and create the body of the blade, as the wire built up light magic was released inside. At its finish he held too fairly good look alike light sabers, a bright light blue glow emanating from them and covering the mesh body.
"Hey!" He yelled to the twins grinning "Not causing trouble right?" As he spoke he brought the butt of the hilts together and they fused into one, he twirled it before catching the hilt in both hands and separating the sabers again.

Dubhiarr caught sight of Aura waving at her, and waved back. Aura looked really cute, though it wasn't immediately obvious what she was supposed to be. She looked like a cross between a flapper and a raccoon -- though that might have been the point. It was kind of ironic, given what Aura's animal form was.
"Hey, Aura!" she called out with a grin. "Nice outfit!"

Aramis heard Carmen and glanced over in his direction, grinning as his friend most definitely showed off his lightsabres.
This was probably the only school that allowed even the semblance of weapons into a school dance. He stayed where he was, though. After all, he was here because he was dragged, and while he had enjoyed talking with Du, he wasn't really having that much fun. Let Carmen spend time with the friends he'd cultivated, rather than the strange tagalong.

Zephyros grinned and pointed at Joelle and Allan. “Considering the line I think she just said, judging by the roomba’s reaction, I’d say she’s definitely not playing good Witch of the West,” he told Jason brightly. “Besides, haven’t you watched the movie? The Witch was as much a hallucination of Dorothy’s evil neighbor as she was her own person.”

"It has the cliche 'it was all a dream' ending," Zeph shrugged. "The neighbor dies in the twister, as I recall. Been a long time since I saw it myself. Never did read the book, either. There's actually a lot of literature I've never read. Shocking, I know."
He grinned at Jason. "It's not like I could ever focus long enough to finish a book, right?"

Dom looked around the hall as he entered, seeing the party in full swing. There seemed to be a definite Disney theme to a lot of the costumes, especially couples. He spotted a Phantom of the Opera over by the snack table and grinned. No need to guess who that was. Vinny had always been one for that look.
Dom had looked into another famous piece of literature for inspiration for his costume. He was clad in brown leather almost head to toe, with a prop sword at one hip and a curved hunting horn at the other, and a round shield, also covered in brown leather, slung over his shoulder. He wasn't sure how good he looked as Boromir, but Vincent had assured him that he looked great. Well, let him think that.
He made his way forward between the couples on the dancefloor, heading toward his brother and sister-in-law. He grinned at the originality of some of the costumes. There were at least two males wearing dresses, though willingly or not, he couldn't say.

Post by Renate Cundrie on Oct 21, 2010 21:09:37 GMT -5
Renate's costume was awesome. Because her hair was the perfect length for anime-spikes. And because Goku was awesome. Therefore Renate, channeling Goku, was awesome.
Okay, so maybe Renate and her character of choice combined were awesome enough to make anything awesome. But the fact that Goku and Renate had become one in spirit made it epic.
Also, Renate said to herself as she half stalked, half sauntered into the party, she should sleep more. And use hair gel that didn't make her dizzy when she opened a tub of it in an enclosed space. A large tub, mind you. We're talking gallons here. Meticulously constructed anime hair came at a price out of time and pocket.
Somehow, despite the fact that he was one the ground and most everyone else was standing, Renate spotted Himmel first. She jogged the rest of the way to the blond and knelt.
"Um... did someone Spirit Bomb your 'gnads?"

He looked at Himmel with a nod. "As you wish. Name five flavors."

Post by Hitoshi Gilespi on Oct 21, 2010 22:10:43 GMT -5
Convincing Hitoshi to dress up for Halloween had been a bit of a task, and it had more or less taken Hitomi's unwavering--and very annoying--insistence that he do so to convince him. Even then, he had agreed only on the condition that he and Alex could decide on something together, and that the two of them matched to some extent or another. If he was going to feel ridiculous, he could at least feel ridiculous with Alex. Besides, he was fairly certain the party required a costume, and Alex was not one to miss a party.
Still, once Hitomi had finished coating him in costume make-up, it wasn't too bad, though Hitoshi would never understand why anyone would voluntarily wear the stuff. It was unbelievably itchy, and had he not been very conscious about what he was doing with his hands, he surely would have smeared it by now.
He had Carmen to thank for the actual costume. The costumes went beyond theatrical quality--they were more than suited for the silver screen, and Hitoshi was not one to give such praise lightly.
In the end, he and Alex had decided to dress as chess pieces. (That had been Carmen's suggestion as well; Hitoshi suspected half the reason he suggested it was because he wanted to design the costume.)
The outer layer of the costume was made of thin sheets of metal--ebon black for Hitoshi, and silver for Alex--fashioned to look like armor. Rather than covering them entirely in functioning plate- or chain-mail--which would be both expensive and far too heavy for either Hitoshi or Alex to wear comfortably--the metal pieces of the costumes were restricted mostly to the chest and shoulders, with thin plates down the front of his legs. It was enough to give the impression of armor while still being practical enough for a costume. Beneath it, his clothing was of shimmering black material, giving it the illusion of metal. The crown was small and simplistic, of the same black material as the rest of the costume.
Hitoshi had opted to wear contacts rather than his glasses for the night, mostly at his sister insistence. He would never admit it to her, but the costume did come off much better without them. Hitomi had done every bit of his make-up in black, which by comparison, made him look almost as pale as Alex. She'd also insisted on covering them both with glitter, and had done so without asking first. Hitoshi hadn't been happy about it, but she hadn't given him a choice. And glitter stayed for weeks.
Hitoshi paused at the doorway, looking around. Hitomi was nowhere to be seen, which was odd. She had left before him... but perhaps she was taking a while to assemble her costume?
He glanced back at Alex and frowned. "The music is terrible," he complained.

Alex chuckled. "Of course it is; you've met the people here, right? Just be glad it's Disney musicals or soft rock and not- wait, Blaise is here already. Lady Gaga cometh."
At first, he hadn't been sure if he liked the idea of wearing nothing but white, but after seeing the designs Carmen had planned, he had to admit, it looked pretty cool. Outside of the glitter and makeup (of which he had needed far less than Hitoshi), he might even want to wear this again sometime. Especially the capes. He felt almost proud, striding in as a glorious White King beside Hitoshi's Black King.
"I think Hitomi and I are going to have to dig up quarters from someplace... Have any request? And do you mind if I put on a slow song or two later?" Alex slipped his hand into Hitoshi's.
