Kemekin blinked a few times. He closed the book and stood, grinning now.
"Hey, no need to be jealous," he teased. "I'm sure there's a girl out there for you, somewhere." he reached out and patted his roommate's shoulder. "I'll have Jaebi introduce you to Kazari. I'm sure you can handle her excuse for affection. Gussu does." His grin expanded to Cheshire proportions. "Or, if that doesn't take, I'll just glue a wig to Jaebi's scalp. He can pass for androgynous if he tries." Granted, Nina would probably snap both of his arms if he tried. The girl was very protective of his friend. Keme had to wonder why, but that was an issue to be tackled another day.

Aramis gave Keme a slight shrug, still with the same devious smile. "Well, I could always tell Nina that you said Hanuel should stop trying to act like her father and pushing her so far. Except I'll use your actual words."
He remained standing, towering over his roommate. The kid should have learned to focus on his homework and not on taunting Aramis. After all, the mage had been working hard at learning how to get under Keme's skin just as much as Kemekin had been getting under his. He would have crossed his arms, but the left... didn't really allow that, so he dealt without.

Kemekin's jaw dropped. He had been venting when he'd said it. It had been a bad day and he hadn't even been talking to Aramis at the time. As a matter of fact, he had thought Aramis was asleep..
"Oh, that--" Kemekin had to stop there. There were no words. He really hadn't been thinking when he'd said it... Now that the thought came to mind, having Nina hear about it would be worse than a beating. No, it would be a beating. Nina would kill him. That simple truth alone made his skin crawl.
But if Haneul heard...
Kemekin looked down, setting his book in his chair. Then he put his hands in his pockets, stepped smoothly around his roommate, and walked out the door, all without a word. There were a few moments of loud scraping noises, as if something heavy was being pushed against the door.

Aramis moved over to the door and tried the handle a little, grinning widely. He'd found a good threat then. That door wasn't going to move for a while, but Aramis had achieved his goal and Kemekin would either forgive him and move on or leave Aramis alone. Either way, Aramis was content.
He sat down carefully and picked up his laptop, explaining what had happened and settling back down to his conversation and essay and reveling in his short-term peace. He was going to have to remember that little trick.

The book fell from his hand as he fell asleep, landing on the spine with the page open to an artist's depiction of a war, of men and elves against innumerable orcs at a mountain stronghold. His parents had been thrilled when he asked for a copy of the Lord of the Rings, even if it was for school, and had sent him an enhanced copy of the Silmarillion as well. Possibly one they'd had bound themselves just for him. The only reason Aramis had been reading it was because he was out of good books and wasn't in the mood to deal with Fable.
He was walking through what looked like the remains of a battle. He was searching for someone, ignoring the blood that caked his armor and hair. He turned people over to look at their face, always someone with dark hair. His searching was becoming frantic.
Aramis moaned slightly, his head falling to the side. In both worlds, he called out softly, "Ada!"
"Ada!" he called loudly, his voice tight slightly. "Ada!"
Turning over another person, he stopped and his breath rushed out as if he'd been hit in the gut. "Ada... Ada, á cuivë... á cuivë, Ada..." His voice cracked as he shook the man's shoulder gently and got not even a twitch of reaction. He touched the man's cheek, then picked him up, cradling him close. "Ada... á cuivë..."
His face twisted slightly as he continued to call out, rolling over to face the rest of the room rather than the wall, his voice growing a little stronger. "Ada, á cuivë. Boe le gerin... á cuivë..."
He shifted again, twisting himself into a tight cocoon in his blankets.
(*if anyone who reads this has better Elvish, PLEASE tell me. I will GLADLY fix it.)

Kemekin had been having quite a lovely dream involving a certain little blond mage, cosplaying as Xianghua and fighting evil video-game style, when one of the ninjas she was battling started yelling in a strange language he didn't recognize. Xianghua-Nina attacked him with a barrage of spinning hits with her sword, one of them landing solidly at the ninja's shoulder. The ninja cried out and his arm went limp before he continued shouting in that same odd dialect.
It was at that moment that Kemekin recognized the voice as Aramis'. And that he was dreaming. Consciousness came to him slowly but steadily, and he eventually sat up, rubbing the last dregs of sleep from his eyes. He ran a hand through his sleep-tousled hair and twisted around to glance at the alarm clock. 3:14 am. Damn.
Kemekin swung his legs over the edge of the mattress and absentmindedly scratched his bare chest. He waited for a few moments, and when he heard Aramis speak again he arched one eyebrow. He pulled his legs back onto the mattress and crossed them, resting his forearms on his thighs.
"Hey," he said, just loudly enough for his voice to carry across the room. "You're speaking gibberish. Cut it out, Ara."

Aramis slowly settled for a moment, then began to toss again, tangling himself up somehow even worse into the blankets. His face twisted as if in fear and he, for a moment, merely whimpered.
He was bound, glaring up at the hideous faces that leered down at him. He knew, in that strange way you always know in dreams, that they wanted him to tell them something. His eyes narrowed as they asked him again. He spat at them. <I will tell you nothing,> he snarled.
As before, he spoke aloud as well as in his dreams, just loud enough to carry. He rolled again, stopping right on the edge of his mattress, his head almost hanging over the edge.
Defiantly, he kept his lips sealed tightly as they asked again, and struggled against the bindings that trapped him. The faces leered more and he stiffened. A cask was hung over him, and spiders poured over him as he thrashed harder. A scream rose up in his throat, even though he knew each of the beasts that crawled and squirmed over him were completely harmless.

Kemekin rolled his eyes. Aramis was even a drama queen in his sleep.
A smirk played across the boy's features. He leaned forward a bit and grabbed one of his pillows, curling the corners into his palms for a better grip. He reared back and bopped it over Aramis' head twice (assuming Ara's head is on the side closer to Keme) and said aloud, clearly, "Avada Kedavra!"

Aramis jolted awake as the pillow contacted his face, looking at Kemekin in shock. Then he looked very confused. “Keme… why the hell are you quoting Harry Potter at me?”
He slowly untangled himself from his blankets and glanced at the time. He blinked, then just looked at his roommate with even greater confusion. “And this early in the morning?”

Kemekin snorted as she put his pillow back in place and sat back down on his bed. "You were having a nightmare-- babbling in gibberish and rolling around and whatnot. So I woke you up." He grinned. "You're welcome."

Aramis got an almost sick look. “Can you remember any words exactly?” he asked. He remembered the dream now, but he was hoping that he’d spoken what he had understood, and not what he had actually said in the dreams.
His face twisted slightly as he thought about the last dream and shivered. It was things like that that made him afraid of spiders. Didn't help that usually when he ran across a spider at home, it was dangerous. He shivered slightly again and pulled the blankets tightly around his shoulders.

Kemekin shook his head. "Nothing I could understand. You sounded pretty dramatic, though." He tipped his head to one side and settled back under his comforter. "You feeling any better?"

He sighed slightly. "Yeah. I don't know what's up with my dreams. The first I found what looked slightly like my father but an Elf, dead... and the second I was being interrogated or something."
He shuddered violently. "I hate spiders so freaking much. You remember that part in the Mummy when they show Imhotep being cursed? Think that but with spiders."

Kemekin pursed his lips slightly. Those dreams were odd, but then again dreams usually were. He smirked.
"Spiders are freaky little shits," he agreed. He definitely wasn't as bothered by them as Aramis was, but you could never convince Kemekin that a spider was something to look at. He rolled over then, cocooning himself in his blankets. "There are none in here, though, so you've got nothing to worry about. Rest easy, okay?"

Aramis sighed slightly, "Sorry I woke you, Keme. Sleep well."
He settled down and just stared for a time at the ceiling, trying desperately to think of anything but spiders and Lord of the Rings. He yawned finally and fell asleep.
He stalked through the Jungle, his long fur fluffed slightly as he held a brightly polished crossbow. A Pope appeared and lunged at him. He jerked back slightly, then snarled and attacked.
The really odd part was, a piece in the very back of his mind confused as to why he was a cat and attacking a pope... not even The Pope, but a pope. Like it was a monster... Then he bumped into a Spider-person and shuddered as he attacked.
Aramis jolted awake again, then sighed. This was not his night for normal dreams, was it? Sighing, he just rolled over and fell back asleep.

Aramis came back to the dorm with a sigh. He pulled his shirt off and threw it on his bed, then dug through his drawers and pulled out a clean shirt. Running his fingers though his hair, he looked at one lock critically. It really was getting long... but some part of him really wanted to let it grow out.
Shrugging, Aramis decided to put it aside. He pulled out his books and sat cross-legged on his bed, working on his homework but keeping an ear out for his roommate. He'd promised Nina he'd talk with Keme, and he still hadn't...

Kemekin had come straight to the dorm room from the Mess Hall. He had wanted to talk with Nina then-- but his head was spinning and he didn't know if he could handle flinching every time she moved. The anticipation of another hit made his head hurt-- even though he thought he had an idea as to why he had been attacked in the first place.
He only had to wonder who Nina had heard it from.
The door opened with a creak and Kemekin shuffled in, rubbing the back of his neck. He nodded to Aramis and flopped face down onto his bed.
"Hey," he said dully, his voice muffled by the mattress.

Aramis raised his head immediately and he shoved his homework aside. "Keme... can we talk?" he asked softly. He tried not to shift nervously. He hadn't told anyone what Kemekin had said, and first... he had to get that possibility out of the way. Besides, Kemekin really needed to know what was really going on.
"It's kind of important," he added.

"Yeah." Kemekin hefted himself up to a sitting position, pulling his knees to his chest.
"You didn't... You couldn't have maybe, possibly, accidentally let slip to Nina what I'd said about Haneul, right? Last semester?" At least, that was what Kemekin assumed had set Nina off. It was the only thing he could think of.
But then again, Aramis had initiated the conversation-- Kemekin shut himself up and watched his roommate, waiting for him to speak.

Aramis fought his gut reaction to defend and took a very deep slow breath.
"No, Keme, I promise you I did not tell her. But apparently someone else did... You remember Adler? ...He seems to be related to Nina. I told her he was looking for her... and the next thing I knew, you were being carried to the sickbay. I might have threatened to, Keme, but honestly... I don't think you could possibly actually irritate me enough for me to do that."
His face paled for a moment. "You know... Keme, I hate to say it this way but it's damn lucky it was you she hit. Had she hit say, me... you'd be short a roommate."
His dark eyes looked into the distance for a moment. "I found her and made her tell me why she hit you. She got hysterical and I actually slapped her. I'm shocked she didn't kill me on the spot. But I finally got her to tell me. I never told anyone what I heard, and I know just as well as you do that you didn't fully mean what you said about Haneul. Heck, I've thought the same thing."
By this point, Aramis realized he was babbling and shut up. Kemekin had to notice how nervous he was after all that. It was probably the most he'd ever said to Kemekin at one time, even counting all the times he'd gotten upset.

"Adler is... oh, shit."
Kemekin scrunched his mouth to the side and rubbed his face with the heels of his palms. So he was right-- it had been him talking about Haneul that had set Nina off. Kemekin listened to Aramis speak and sighed.
"She wouldn't have," he said. "Killed you for slapping her, I mean. Nina's never lost her temper like that before, as far as I know. Aside from... what happened, that is." He sighed again. "Thanks for that, though-- going and talking to her."
Kemekin ran both hands through his hair. "Y'know... I just came from the mess hall. Nina was there." He glanced up at Aramis. "She got down on the floor and bowed to me. In front of everyone. I didn't know how to handle it, so I just walked away." He frowned. "I wonder if I should have done that..."

Aramis winced. "I told her to let you be for a bit. She was almost in tears when I talked with her. She's really upset about this, Keme. I don't think I've ever seen someone more upset about something. Not even Zeph before Halloween, really... He didn't bottle it up the way Nina did. But..."
He floundered, trying to figure out how to say what he meant without trying to push Kemekin past what he felt comfortable with. He bit his lip thoughtfully, in the same place he'd cut himself talking with Nina. "I'm not very good with emotions. Hell, you probably know that better than anyone. But I think that the two of you should talk... when you don't feel like you're going to violently flinch every time she so much as raises a finger. Or with Bolin..."
He shifted uncomfortably. Even with Kemekin, Aramis was reaching the end of his eloquence, and talking any more was going to be a bit of a struggle. This was why he always failed presentation assignments...

Kemekin pursed his lips slightly. He knew Aramis was struggling to articulate his thoughts.
Kemekin stood and walked towards the door, giving Aramis's shoulder a friendly pat as he passed him.
"I'm going to go find her," he said, upon reaching the door. He turned the handle, paused, and added, "Thanks, Aramis," before exiting.

Aramis watched him. He wanted to stop him, ask him if he really thought it was a good idea, but his voice stuck in his throat. He tried again, but his voice deserted him again and he simply watched Kemekin walk out of the room without managing so much as a squeak to try to stop his roommate.
It seemed to Aramis like that was a bad idea, that Kemekin was not ready yet but... Aramis sighed. It was too late to stop him now, and obviously Aramis had definitely talked himself out. Shrugging slightly, he pulled his homework back on his lap and started working on it again. Kemekin was old enough to take care of himself, after all. And a good enough healer, too. Shaking himself all over a little to shove off the shivers he felt, Aramis focused on his homework.
One corner of his mind, however, kept worrying, and kept its attention on the world outside his dorm.

Sterling hadn't known who to ask to find Kemekin's dorm room. Oddly enough, it had been his new roommate who had pointed him to it. Stranger still that Kemekin's room was right next door to his.
And so very coincidental that, when he stepped out into the hall to drag his last bag into the room, he spotted the boy approaching from the other end of the corridor.
"Kem!" he bellowed, straightening to his full height.
