They had gotten to the school the evening before, and Aisling hadn't felt like unpacking; after dinner, he'd headed off to his room without a word, shucked his shoes and jeans off, and crawled into bed.
It was about an hour after what passed for sunrise in this place, and though he'd been awake off and on since 4 AM, he didn't feel like getting up. He lay mostly still, tracing patterns on his pillow and listening to the sounds of the castle.

Xander rubbed his eyes and glanced around the room, the early morning light streamed through the blinds into his face. It was extremely early... He could go back to bed, of course. Classes didn't start for several more days. Or he could get a head start on exploring the school. The only other times he had been to Dunehelden had been very closely chaperoned, and not for very long. This would be his first chance to roam the school with free rein.
He kicked the blankets away and sat on the edge of the bed. "Hey, Ais?" he hissed, not wanting to wake his brother if he was still asleep. "You awake?"

Aisling closed his eyes and stopped moving for several seconds, then pushed himself up into a sitting position. He looked at his brother, still curled up in his blankets, and smiled.

Xander grinned. "Interested in checking out the rest of the castle?" he asked.
Xander, who had already unpacked his things the night before, began rummaging through his dresser for clean clothes. Most of what he had was the school uniform, but he had enough room to bring some of his summer clothes, as well as his heavy winter clothing, though that wouldn't be much use for several months. He found some nice, light clothes and quickly changed into them.

"Okay," he said with a ring of happiness, faint enough that it would be indetectable to people not used to him.
Aisling burrowed back under the covers and reached under the bed, pulling out his suitcase, unzipping it, and dragging out clean clothes all without poking his head out from under. When he finished this, he tossed off the covers and grinned.
"I need to take a shower. Be right back."

Xander smiled, fishing out a pair of socks from his drawers. "Alright, don't take too long."

Aisling dashed into the bathroom, and soon enough the sounds of running water filled the little dorm room, followed after a few short minutes by steam and silence.
The boy came out dressed in a plain black t-shirt and black jeans, a towel wrapped around his long hair. He yawned.
"Breakfast? Or..." he shrugged. "Later. Sometime. Whatcha wanna do first?"

"Hm." Xander tugged on his tennis shoes and hopped to his feet. "We can grab breakfast on the way. Maybe we can find Hitoshi and Alex and have breakfast with them later."
He thought for a minute. "There's the entire outside, plus the classrooms and library, though we could just wander around until we find something interesting." He shrugged. "It is a castle. There are probably all kinds of strange things around."

Aisling smiled and rubbed his hair in the towel a little more before taking it off, tossing it on his bed, and brushing his hair. He didn't bother putting on his shoes; there wasn't a dress code right now, anyway.
"I want to see the classrooms," he said, "and the basement, and meet the other people here. After Uncle Hitoshi."

Xander nodded, his smile broadening. "Alright then. We can try to find them, and see if we find anything else interesting on the way."
He grinned mischievously. "I bet we could convince Uncle Hitoshi to cook us something, especially if we got Alex in on it."

Aisling did a little hop-bounce on the balls of his feet at the idea of his uncle's cooking. He folded his hands behind his back and waited for his brother to be done and leave, so he could follow.

Xander smiled, continuing to descend the staircase and then head down the hall.

---
Aisling lay on his side in bed, thinking quietly, staring at the door and waiting for his brother.
Mostly quietly, anyhow; aside from a couple of points at which he buried his head in his pillow and made little sighing noises.

Xander stretched as he entered the room, then tossed his backpack haphazardly on his bed and flopped down in the soft pillows on his bed. He rolled over and grinned at his brother.
"Had a good day?" he asked.

Aisling sighed.
"No," he said softly. "How was your day?"

Xander pushed himself up and looked over at his brother. "It was alright. What happened?"

He was quiet for a moment, trying to find the best words.
"Xander... d'you know anything about girls?"

Xander titled his head slightly. "Not that much," he admitted. "Probably not that much more than you." He shrugged. "What do you want to know?"

Aisling looked forlornly over to the door.
"I think I like a girl," he said softly. "...Two girls, maybe. Not sure how this works." One corner of his mouth quirked up in a self-deprecating little smile.

Xander hopped onto his brother's bed and wrapped his arms around his brother's shoulders comfortingly, leaning his chin against his brother.
"Well, I guess it kind of depends on the girl," he commented. "Who is it?" Xander grinned. "Do I know them?"

Aisling smiled and curled into himself a little.
"Uhmmm. Mayybe. I don't know her name." Not of the one I'm going to mention, anyway.

Xander hummed slightly to himself. "What's she like, then?" he asked.

"Tall," he said immediately. "Dark eyes, strong. I see her at gym and sometimes in the cafeteria."

"Older?" Xander guessed, hugging his brother comfortingly. "You should try to talk to her some time. You won't know unless you try."
Xander knew his brother, and doubted that Aisling as actually that likely to go up to a strange girl and talk to her. He barely talked to anyone apart from Xander. He wasn't sure that was likely to change any time soon... Still, Xander didn't know what other advice he could give his brother. He didn't really know anything about girls, or really given them much thought. He was a little surprised that Aisling had taken notice before him.
"You said there were two girls," he said slowly. "Who's the other one?"

Aisling hugged Xander's arm.
"Mmh. She's scary." He blushed. "But. Yeah. I dunno. What do you say?"
"...Nobody," he answered simply. "I said maybe two."
