Hitoshi pursed his lips, examining the blintz. "That's good, though you don't have to be quite so sparing with the filling. A little more won't hurt."
Hitoshi slid the first two crepes onto a plate and covered them with raspberry glaze, then dropped a handful of the small fruit on top of the blintzes. He smiled, passing the plate to Alex.

Aisling nodded and began making more blintzes. He hummed a happy little song under his breath. He could smell the cheese and the sugary raspberry glaze, but he still wanted french toast more. He looked back to his uncles and smiled.

Alex looked deep into Hitoshi's eyes and smiled softly at him, looking touched beyond what the blintzes could possibly have accomplished. He leaned over and kissed Hitoshi on the cheek, then took the plate from him and zipped over to the table to eat.

Hitoshi's face went slightly red, and he watched quietly as Alex walked over to the table. He shook himself out of it, smiling slightly to himself as he grabbed a plate of french toast and eggs. He was surprisingly content like this, here at Dunehelden with his family.
Hitoshi set his plate down, leaning over Alex's shoulder and stealing a bite of Alex's blintz.

Xander slid into the seat on the other side of Alex, smiling over at his brother as he cut into a fresh blintz. He ran his finger through the trail of strawberry glaze on the plate, then sampled it from his fingertip.
He glanced up at his uncles and grinned. "Thanks for making breakfast for us."

Alex stuck his tongue out at Hitoshi. "You're very welcome, Xander, thank you for helping me convince Hitoshi."
"Maybe we should give them a tour of the castle," Alex said after a bite of blintz. "And ask Alyn to go with them, if she would. We're going to have a dozen children running around in just seven short days, if not tomorrow." He smiled at Xander and Aisling. "Would you like that?"

Xander took a bite of one of his eggs. He had cooked it a bit too long, and the yolk was nearly solid. Still, it tasted fine. He swallowed.
"D'you think she would?" he asked. "I mean, Alyn. We were going to see if Demi and Ai would show us around, but Mom said not to let Demi or Jack get us into trouble again--" He paused and looked up. "Does this mean we don't have to do anywhere with that--" Xander caught himself. "I mean, with Professor Harris?"

"You're absolutely not going with her alone, if that's what you mean," he smirked at Xander. "You don't have to if you don't want to; she just... gah. You heard her." He waved his hand.
"I don't know. I... would like to ask. It would be nice for her to spent a bit of time around the rest of you, you know?"
Though mostly I was hoping we could have the place to ourselves for the day, he mused. Watch a movie, catch up on some real news, cuddle, et cetera... That's been really hard to come by, as heartbreakingly adorable as you little bastards are.

Aisling came in with his own little plate of eggs and french toast and a blintz. He had raspberry topping smeared all over the eggs, along with what looked like black pepper, but not anything else. He sat down beside his brother and began eating his food slowly.

Xander contemplated it, swirling his the syrup around with his fork. "I guess she can't be much worse than Great-Grandma," he conceded. "I mean, Great-Grandma is nicer, but Professor Harris isn't nearly as bad as Great-Grandma on a bad day."
He smiled. "I'd like to spend time with Alyn. Wouldn't you, Ais?" he glanced back at his brother.

Ais looked down at his food, poking around a piece of raspberry egg.
"'Kay," he replied quietly after a long pause.

Hitoshi glanced up at Alex, smiling as though he knew exactly what Alex had in mind.
"When you finish eating, put your dishes in the sink and go drag your cousin out of bed," Hitoshi announced. "Tell her she has direct orders from the headmaster."

Xander smiled. "That sounds fun." He started to shovel another bite of french toast in his mouth, and then had a thought.
He smirked. "You know, Alyn could come with us when Professor Harris shows us around. And maybe Demi and Ai, too. And Jack, if he wants to. You wouldn't need to worry about us." He looked up at his uncle Alex with an obscenely sweet expression. "She says she likes teenagers and just wants to spend time with them, after all."

Alex reached over and ruffled Xander's hair. "You're quite a lot like your mother sometimes. She's going to accidentally found a dynasty no one will have the heart to overthrow."

Hitoshi rolled his eyes. "Don't give my sister ideas." Hitoshi pushed the runny yolk back away from his half-eaten french toast with the side of his fork.
"Besides, I think if he's picking that up from anywhere, it's from spending too much time around you," he remarked, smirking.

Xander grinned, quickly shoveling the rest of his breakfast in his mouth. He swept the plate up into his arms and dashed to the kitchen, dumping the dirty dishes in the sink and running water over them.
Xander slinked back toward the table, waiting for his brother to finish eating.

After the children had at last cleared out of their quarters, the dishes were cleaned, the leftovers were put away -- the ones that weren't eaten by either Alyn or Alex, at least -- and the counters wiped spotless.
He was still somewhat behind on his work. The accounts were long from organized, a few new teachers were requesting approval for a few drastic changes in schedule plans at the last minute, the previous headmaster (nice and cozy in her little tower) kept sending him memos demanding updates on "her castle" which he was theoretically supposed to reply to at some point since she had appointed herself to superintendent or Supreme Overlord or some ridiculous thing that gave her all of the power and none of the responsibility... And that was just what was at the top of the list. It was no wonder Veronique delegated all of her responsibilities to other people.
Hitoshi sat down on the couch, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "There's no way in hell I'm finishing all of this in a week," he muttered.

Alex followed him and flopped over onto him. "Working? Pfft." He wrapped his arms around Hitoshi and lay his head on the other man's shoulder. "Let someone else deal with Veronique. I could do it, or Smoke would be happy to. And why is it we can't just hire an accountant again?"
Alex looked plaintively into Hitoshi's eyes.

He sighed. "I could deal with Veronique if not for everything else," he murmured, running his hands over Alex's back. "But there's so much else to deal with, and I can't seem to straighten out the accounts enough to even know if we have the funds to afford an accountant yet... Quite frankly, I'm beginning to understand how the Clinton administration felt after Reagan and Bush."
He leaned back into the couch and closed his eyes. "Still, I suppose a few hours won't make much difference..." he trailed off. Or the rest of the day. He could spare a day easily enough. Hitoshi trailed his fingers lightly over Alex's arms. "A bit of rest would probably help clear my head."

Alex pulled the papers out of Hitoshi's lap and sat them on the endtable. "Good," he replied, "I didn't chase the kids off on their first day here to have you sit irritably in the corner and work on memoes to a vampiress who just craves attention."
He squeezed Hitoshi close and kissed him lightly on the lips. "I chased them off because I want attention."

"Is that so?" Hitoshi replied, wrapping his arms around Alex's waist. "Are you implying we should lock the doors? Because I'm fairly certain both Alyn and Veronique have the key."
Hitoshi pulled Alex closer and ran his nose lightly along the side of Alex's cheek.

"Do you really think she'll be back so soon?" Alex moved over to sit on Hitoshi's lap. "I was thinking we could watch a movie, or do something that actually required thinking, or..." he kissed Hitoshi again and smiled. "You seem to be convincing me otherwise."

"If you're worried we could move rooms," he murmured. "She'll probably be gone for at least a few hours."
Hitoshi pulled Alex closer, nipping softly at Alex's jawline. "And I find this requires a fair bit of actual thinking."

"Ah." He chuckled. "Ah... you mentioned it. No, I don't care." Alex pushed Hitoshi over onto the cushions and kissed him deeply, snuggling close.

A couple of minutes later, a voice came from behind the couch.
"Epic bad timing, wow. Should I leave?"
